Status of Parents:	Vaebn is the product of a very short-lived illicit association between a Tal'Shiar officer and a Klingon female. His parents have been estranged for a good many years. Having been ostracized by her Klingon husband's house following her affair with Vaebn's father, his mother withdrew to a monastery on Boreth to serve out her days there as a monk. His father relocated to Mendaissa along with the rest of the Tal'Shiar in 2411, but following the organization's disbandment in 2415, his whereabouts have been unknown. Presumed dead.

Personal History

Vaebn Donatra was born to a Romulan father and Klingon mother on the planet Eilhaunn, in the Romulan Star Empire. His parents started an illicit affair after having met during one of his father's many Tal'Shiar infiltration missions to the Klingon homeworld. Vaebn's mother was married to a Klingon male at the time. When the illicit association came to light, his mother was immediately shamed and excommunicated by her in-laws. Vaebn's father spirited her off to the planet Eilhaunn where she gave birth to Vaebn. Her personal guilt and shame, however, eventually drove her to leave the newborn infant with his Romulan grandparents, after which she retreated to a life of seclusion on the planet Boreth.

Eilhaunn being an agricultural world, Vaebn spent his formative years in the care of his Romulan grandparents on a farm just outside the city of Del. His father’s duties as a senior officer in the Tal'Shiar kept him off-planet for extended periods of time.

In 2407, when the star Rrhaedhannae went supernova, the young Vaebn was evacuated from the Romulan star system by the Federation and relocated to Alpha Centauri VII during an exodus known as the Temyythaera. In the chaos and upheaval that followed, Vaebn became separated from his grandparents, who perished in the subsequent cataclysm. His father relocated to Mendaissa along with the rest of the Tal’Shiar, which led to Vaebn losing contact with him also.

Vaebn was placed into the care of Centauran foster parents shortly after arriving on Alpha Centauri VII. Both his adoptive parents held lecturing positions at the Delthara University Complex on the northernmost continent of the planet. His adoptive father, Professor Zefram Wilforth, lectured in Xenolinguistics, while his adoptive mother, Zella Wilforth, lectured at the Law faculty. His adoptive parents doted on Vaebn and went to great lengths to foster his interest and love for language and law respectively.

In spite of this, Vaebn always found himself haunted by a need to be reacquainted with his biological parents. He was only vaguely aware of their last known whereabouts at the time of the Romulan exodus and was convinced that the most feasible way of ever finding them, would be to join Starfleet. Logic dictated, he believed, that just on the basis of probability alone, if he were to travel the galaxy widely enough, sooner or later he'd have to come across his estranged father. A Starfleet recruitment scout visiting Delthara University noticed Vaebn early in his first semester there and persuaded him to suspend his civilian law studies and apply to Starfleet instead.

During his tenure at Starfleet Academy, he met and became engaged to an Ardanan girl by the name of Anka Plasus, an Engineering cadet, the daughter of the Elected High Advisor to the Planetary Council of Ardana.

Personality: Donatra is intensely introverted and private, although his foster upbringing has endowed him with certain social skills to offset the negative effects of his Klingon/Romulan heritage. Vaebn is either interested in something or not. Lacking interest in a particular subject or topic, he won't bother making a secret about it. With Vaebn what you see is pretty much what you get. Nothing more, nothing less. The flip side holds equally true: should he come across something of value or interest, he'll pursue it almost feverishly, to the practical and mental exclusion of pretty much everything else. Vaebn Donatra is a consummate individualist and non-conformist. This man simply marches to the beat of his own drum.

Sense of Humor: Donatra has a surgical wit. His humor tends toward the dry and can be rather sardonic, given the opportunity. He also tends to be extremely sarcastic at times. Having been raised by human foster parents has gone a long way towards offsetting many of the stereotypical traits one would normally expect of someone with a Klingon/Romulan heritage. Donatra exhibits neither the overt gruffness or bravado of his Klingon parentage, nor the aggressive naiveté of his Romulan side.

Likes: Nature, solitude, privacy, the freedom experienced from occasionally living close to the edge.
Dislikes: Conceitedness, condescension, all forms of bullying, rank pulling.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: Any form of bullying or condescension. Donatra sees himself as somewhat of a “champion of the underdog.” Conceited people put him off entirely.
Bad Habits or Vices: Donatra can come across as rather aloof at times. He has a very guarded demeanor and is extremely private.
Achievements: Vaebn considers it a personal “achievement" having been able to break the mould of not only the stereotypical Klingon, but the stereotyped Romulan as well. He works very hard at being “him", instead of either Romulan or Klingon.
Disappointments: Life's too short for regret.
Illnesses: As a child, Vaebn was frequently afflicted by Terothka Virus and Gorch.
Strengths: Donatra has proven himself very adept at avoiding surveillance. He has an extremely strong sense of duty and honor. Although he's not avert to placating his superiors for purposes of advancement, he's also not opposed to bending or even breaking the rules if need be. Outwardly Vaebn professes at least a superficial belief in the D'ravsai, an ancient species believed to have seeded many species throughout the galaxy. Secretly, though, he follows the teachings of the Vulcan philosopher Surak. To do so openly would normally be considered an affront to Romulan culture, but Vaebn's mixed heritage has made it all the more feasible.
Weaknesses: Tactfulness, or rather the lack thereof. Not always being too concerned with the requisite social etiquette or protocol. Having some difficulty multi-tasking.
Fears: The entire exodus of his people during the time of Temyythaera was extremely traumatic to Vaebn. He still has frequent nightmares of a star going supernova and destroying everything he holds dear.
Prejudices: Donatra has always been vehemently opposed to all forms of corruption, nepotism and ineptitude.

Off Duty Clothing Tastes: The average contemporary styles in vogue with Federation citizens. Donatra prefers to wear a tailored fit. Nothing oversized or conspicuously store-bought. He favors deep, rustic hues.
Pets: A self-proclaimed Terran cat lover, Vaebn takes his cat, Ballantine, with him on the starship on every tour of duty.
The cat has free roam of the entire ship, but most of the time you'll find it asleep in Vaebn's private quarters.
Once or twice a week Vaebn treats Ballantine to a “mouse hunt" scenario on one of the holodecks.
