Personal History

Jadaris was born in a Federation hospital on Cestus III, where his parents worked as mining engineers. The only member of his family born in the Federation, Jadaris grew up first with his parents, then as a foster child of his parents' associates when his parents had to leave the planet. Being that he never had Gorn citizenship, he wasn't able to accompany his family back home. Jadaris grew up with a Caitian family that his parents had worked with, and they raised him with their son R'Kaar Ragarri. With the loss of his parents, Jadaris looked to K'Taar in times of uncertainty, and also wanted to follow in his footsteps in the geological field. Jadaris's parents introduced him to a number of Federation customs, and to the colony's baseball games. When he was eight, he joined the junior baseball team and rapidly made his way up as a pitcher along with his foster brother, R'Kaar, who was playing catcher. Within a year, he was playing with the Cestus Comets, and managed to make MVP that same year. About two years later, he joined the mining company on the planet as a geologic surveyor to exploit the uranium resources found in the area. During a routine mine survey though, Jadaris was buried in a cave collapse along with his team. He spent two days in that mine before the rescue crews managed to get to him. Due to the uranium deposits in the area, Jadaris had contracted radiation poisoning, which necessitated him temporarily leaving Cestus III for treatment on the U.S.S Resource, a Miranda-class starship that was assisting with the rescue efforts. Jadaris was fascinated by the equipment around him when he got used to it being around him, and he learned as much as he could about the technology.

When he left the ship several days later for home, he was encouraged by the mining company to go off and find something else to do, other than mining. However, Jadaris liked his current profession, so a year later, when he became of age, he applied for the Vulcan Science Academy and was accepted in the field of geophysics. R'Kaar however, did not leave with him, instead, he stayed on Cestus III with his family, although R'Kaar and Jadaris kept in subspace contact with each other from time to time. K'Taar gave Jadaris his blessing before he left, and told him that he was proud of him, but that the future was his own, and to call on him if he needed assistance. Along the way, he decided that his inflexibility would lead to problems, and took up the field of gravimetrics as a result. With gravitational interactions being somewhat unpredictable out in the field, Jadaris figured that the experience would help him with his stubborness, and allow him to be a much more flexible officer in the future.

While he was deciding what classes at the Science Academy he was wanting to take, Jadaris met one of the doctors who had treated him for radiation poisoning and had a chat with him. Despite being a geophysicist, Jadaris decided that minoring in medicine would help reduce injuries in the field, and so decided to partially enter that field of study, with a focus on radiology. Given his first-hand experience with radiation, learning that sub-field of medicine would be much easier, given that it was easier to learn what he had experienced. Jadaris spent a few years, primarily learning the science of geology and geophysics, as well as the other sciences from the Vulcans. After several years of hard work, and a thesis on locating Class-M planetary uranium deposits utilizing magnetotelluric techniques, Jadaris got his equivalent of a Master's degree before he considered applying to the Star Fleet Academy. Jadaris needed a sponsor in the Federation, and he found one in his adviser, Satelk Komorvar.

Jadaris requested his adviser to sponsor him, and after a lengthy discussion about either going for his doctorate and possible teaching position in the Science Academy, or join Star Fleet Academy and get the same, but not immediately gain a teaching position. After a few days of deliberation, Jadaris decided that he would do more good in Star Fleet than on Vulcan. He reasoned that if he were to apply the knowledge, he could teach at the Academy much more effectively when and if he retired. Satelk accepted his choice, and wrote the letter of sponsorship that Jadaris needed to gain entrance into the Academy. The first of many trials for him to join the Academy was over, but more difficult ones lay just ahead for him.

When Jadaris took the entrance exam, he failed the first test due to lack of speed, and then the second exam he failed due to his fears of being trapped under a collapsed roof. He passed the third time though, having coped with his fears, and was accepted into Star Fleet Academy as a cadet, but before he was able to enter the Academy, another issue came up. The issue of citizenship came up, and Jadaris had to argue that he was a citizen, by virtue of being born in Federation territory, and with the lack of Gorn citizenship, the Federation was where he was legally born into. Jadaris provided evidence that he was born in a Federation medical facility on Cestus III, and cleared up the issue by also presenting his record with the Science Academy, and a personal letter from his sponsor alongside the record from the Vulcan Science Academy. Though he also joined the Academy's baseball team, he placed his studies before his sports; a little something he picked up from his time among the Vulcans.

Jadaris, during the Callisto’s first ill-fated mission to the Delta Quadrant, had the luck to be the ship’s first officer at the time. However, after being injured in the line of duty there, he returned to Star Fleet Headquarters during his recovery and attempted to research exactly why the benamite crystals were in short supply, and that was when his past caught up to him.

Jadaris, being a Federation citizen, didn’t belong to a race that was part of the Federation. So out of security concerns, he was denied access to Star Fleet research on the subject of benamite, and told to await reassignment while he recovered. However, Jadaris turned to the Vulcan Science Academy that he had graduated from, and somewhat in rebellion against the people who deemed him a security risk, accepted a temporary position as a geophysicist at the VSA. There, he worked on a project sponsored by the Vulcans that aimed towards the theoretical composition of synthetic benamite, without any links to the Quantum Slipstream Drive. Jadaris knew he was being monitored, but he wisely kept any practical knowledge he had about the drive away from the project. The project was a marginal success, with a stabilized lifespan of around two point five minutes under load, and a synthesis time of almost two days. This short of a lifespan, meant it was too unstable for use in a quantum slipstream drive, but the theory existed, and the VSA offered the research to Star Fleet to take over. By that point in time, the QSD was on the wane, and ships not assigned to the Pathfinder expedition were being stripped of the QSD, and by that point, Jadaris requested reassignment, given the project was over, though he was being reviewed for a possible professorship. However, Jadaris still wanted to do what he did best; science aboard a Star Fleet vessel, and so, added the VSA project to his background, even though he no longer had a share in the synthetic benamite project.

He requested an assignment aboard a science vessel, and, with his combined engineering and science experience, found himself being assigned to the USS Charon as its Chief Science Officer, something he loved and wanted to do, way back when he was a midshipman on the USS Intrepid.
