The Houma saw action in the Federation/Dominion War as part of the 9th Fleet.
The USS Houma was named for the Native American Houma tribe, native to the former US state of Louisiana.
The starship was the birthplace of Gunnerey Sergeant Alec Daher.
The ship was decommissioned in 2400 when Star Fleet was reorganized.
