The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) was a 24th century Federation Sovereign-class starship operated by Starfleet.
This ship was the sixth Federation starship to bear the name "Enterprise."

Enterprise-E was launched from San Francisco Fleet Yards, with Captain Jean-Luc Picard in command.
Much of the crew of the Enterprise-D had been reassigned there, with the one exception being Lieutenant Commander Worf, who had already transferred to Deep Space 9.

Borg Encounter

After almost a year in space, Enterprise was ordered to patrol the Romulan Neutral Zone during the second Borg incursion. Officially, Starfleet was concerned about possible Romulan military action, but in reality, they were concerned about Picard's presence, due to his previous Borg encounters. Shortly after the Federation fleet engaged the Borg cube, Picard disobeyed orders and returned to Earth to assist the fleet. Once there, Picard took command of the fleet, advising the best weak spots for the fleet to attack. As a result, the Borg vessel was destroyed, and the Battle of Sector 001 was a victory for Starfleet.

Saving First Contact

Before the Borg cube was destroyed, it launched a second vessel, towards Earth. This ship created a temporal vortex, travelling to the year 2063. Their mission was to stop Zefram Cochrane from launching his historic ship, the Phoenix, and assimilate Earth before the Federation could be formed to resist them. The Enterprise, caught and protected in the wake of the vortex, chased the Borg and destroyed their ship, sending an away team to help Cochrane repair the Phoenix. Though a few Borg had transported to the Enterprise before their ship was destroyed, the Enterprise crew was able to stave them off long enough for Cochrane and the Pheonix to take their first flight. Successful in helping Cochrane, and therefore First Contact with the Vulcans, the Enterprise hid herself using the gravitational field of Earth's moon.
They were able to recreate the Borg's time vortex, and return to 2373, where the ship was repaired and returned to service.

Diplomacy & Conspiracy

While trying to negotiate an end to the Dominion War, the Enterprise was assigned a diplomatic role.

Given the task of relocating a species due to political reasons, Captain Picard felt it violated the Prime Directive to do so. He resigned his commission, moving to aid in the prevention of the capture and removal of the species in question. Instructed to alert Starfleet of subterfuge by an Admiral, the ship was attacked on her way back by two battle cruisers, sent to keep the relocation conspiracy under wraps. Forced to eject her warp core in order to seal a tear in subspace, some quick thinking by Acting Captain Riker saved the day. Finally able to relay the message and halt the relocation, Riker and the Enterprise returned to beam up Captain Picard.

Romulan Dealings

In 2379, the Enterprise returned to Earth for the wedding of William T. Riker and Deanna Troi. While en route, the ship detected unusual positronic signals, discovering another Soong-type android, the prototype "B-4." The Enterprise was then ordered to Romulus for a meeting with the new Praetor, who apparently wanted to initiate peace talks. Both the discovery of B-4 and the peace overtures turned out to be a ruse to capture Captain Picard, and discover tactical positions of Starfleet vessels. Once it became clear that the Romulan Praetor was going to use his starship to destroy all life on Earth, and wage war on the Federation, the Enterprise set to join Star Fleet Battle Group Omega, and make a stand.

During the battle, the Enterprise was severely damaged, and the warp core disabled. Covertly making their way to the Romulan ship, Picard and Data worked to disable the enemy. Deanna Troi, ordered to ram the Enterprise into the Romulan ship, was able to disable most of the enemy's systems. Activating their highly-volatile radiation weapon, it was too late: Data had already sabotaged it, and the weapon began overloading. Sacrificing himself to save his Captain, Data saw Picard return to the Enterprise before being destroyed along with the Romulan ship. The Enterprise returned to Earth for extensive repairs.
