Personal History

Jasmine was born in Norfolk, Virginia to a marine and a Starfleet doctor. Discipline was a huge part of her childhood as was immediate obedience. Those things have stuck with her to this day. Her parents were always loving and caring, though her father sometimes brought his Marine mannerism back home to his family.

It was thought that Jasmine would join Starfleet as a doctor like her mother which was why she spent most of her free time as a youth at Starfleet Medical. It shaped how saw the world, and she didn’t mind the time spent learning about things far bigger than herself. However, there came a time when she began to doubt she had what it took to be a full fledged doctor. It was after seeing two of her closest friends nearly die at the medical center that she began to concentrate her time on weaponry and offensive tactics.

Her father was more than a little hesitant when his little girl decided she wanted to follow in her father and brother’s footsteps. He spent time trying to convince her to join Starfleet with her cousin and two best friends but to no avail. She soared high at boot camp –even though she chose the quick route of enlisted instead of officer-, specializing in weaponry and medicine. She managed to reach the requirements for a doctor, making her skills very valuable in the field as she was more than capable in combat as well.

Her first assignment as a Private was the USS Philadelphia, where she met Mirax Terrik the then MarCO, who had a large impact on her life as a role model. She transferred along with Mirax to Mars where they taught weaponry before being transferred to a special forces unit assigned to Sierra -18. It was this mission that put a hitch in Jasmine’s otherwise bright future. She was kidnapped by a pirate while trying to clear the station. While for the most part, it was only a mentally traumatizing experience, she nearly died at the end when her throat was slit. She sustained extremely severe injuries and at one time, it was thought that she wouldn’t make it. While she did manage to heal physically, she was forced to take a leave of absence when the stress of the situation caused a mental breakdown. However, for her bravery during the situation, she was promoted to Lance Corporal, awarded upon her return from medical leave.

During her medical leave of absence, Jas began finishing the training that would allow her to move from a field medic/ medical assistant to a full fledged doctor. By the time she returned to active duty, she was more than 3/4ths of the way complete.

Her return to active duty was anything but spectacular, but she was more than relieved to have something to do with her time. She was placed on a smaller Starfleet vessel, USS Vancouver, who was suppose to be on a science mission. However, when the conflict with the Romulans began, her ship was recalled to SB-157 to help with the defense. It was here that she was critically injured while treating wounded in Sickbay. One of the Romulan ships breached the hull of the ship near Sickbay, before the hull breach could be sealed by forcefields, Jas’ legs were crushed by sliding equipment. She was removed with the rest of the survivors when the ship was abandoned, and she was treated on SB-157. Her legs were most of the way healed, but she was still placed on desk duty until she managed to pass a physical. She was transferred back to Mars until that occurred, but was awarded a medal for bravery and another promotion to Coporal. During her desk duty, she was able to complete her training and upon return to full duty, she was given the duties of a full doctor.

She managed to pass the physical a few months later, but not before her unit was deployed. Given that most units had been deployed on readiness for the defense of the Federation or Acamar, she was left with few options. The powers that be decided that the best option would be to loan the young doctor out given that Starfleet needed doctors with the conflict brewing. Plus, it would give the young woman some added experience that would only benefit them in the long run. Since they didn’t want to put her in a combat situation without her unit, they placed her in the exploration group, feeling that she would be at a lesser risk. It’s suspected that her father may have pulled some strings to ensure that she was placed in a less compromising position among the medical department of an exploration vessel instead of a security department in the ‘fleet, where marine-starfleet relations are tense. Regardless, she was assigned to the USS Drake as a doctor to their medical department, an assignment she is both excited and apprehensive about.

Her experience on the Drake was a nice return to duty, but the young marine had felt out of place on the vessel, and had requested reassignment after that mission. She spent the rest of her time bouncing from one assignment to the next with the occasional stint on Mars or Earth. During this time, she reached the rank of Sergeant, but in order to accept a field commission to officer, she took a step “down” to Major. She suspects the field commission had less to do with her work as a doctor and more to do with her work as Mirax Terrik’s babysitter.

She served a brief stint upon the Ticonderoga, a few missions prior to its destruction, but following that stint, she returned full time to Mars, where she assisted in treating the worst wounded and developed training regimens to train marine medics to the highest level. During this time, she maintained loose ties to SOCOM, which led to a few unique assignments.

Following word of the horrors visited upon marines on Ryla, Tyrol was stationed to Starbase Delta temporarily, where she assisted in treating the worst injured marines among the survivors. One of those was Major Dawson, who made a nearly miraculous recovery. While Jasmine received a great number of accolades for the surgeries and treatments needed to get the Major to that point, she always stated it was Dawson’s sheer stubbornness that led to the result.

Upon her return to Mars, she was informed of the shuttering of the Marine Corps Division. While she had been aware of the whispers, she had underestimated Star Fleet’s desire to mold itself into a truly peace-era design without their main ground force. She was given three choices: join Starfleet Medical, join Starfleet Security as a combat medic or join one of the newly formed Star Fleet Combat Search and Rescue units.

While joining Starfleet Medical had initially seemed like the most logical choice given her years of experience and preference to treating more challenging patients in a stable environment, being one of maybe five full doctors in the marines had brought her into contact with Starfleet doctors on numerous occasions. And each occasion had left her feeling like a step-sibling, whose medical knowledge was not respected or appreciated.

Tyrol spent a few months TDY to SBA while waiting for an assignment to SFCSR. However, before she could joint SFCSR, she was recruited to join the newly formed Rapid Response Teams, made up primarily of former marines now operating under Special Operations. Initially, she was assigned to RRT Bravo, which operated out of the old Marine base on Mars. This assignment fit her experience and allowed her to utilize her connections at SOCOM as well as her marine experience. She operated as the team’s doctor and deployed with them on each and every assignment.

However, when Rapid Response Team Echo was reassigned off of the mothballed Gettysburg, Tyrol was reassigned to the position of their medic and team assistant lead behind Commander Dawson. She completed numerous assignments with Echo before the events that would lead to her decision to part ways with the team. Upon the drafting of Commander Dawson to what was later realized to be a suicide mission and the refusal of management to allow the rest of the unit to support their commander in combat, there was a deep rooted dissatisfaction with command’s decision to utilize a ragtag team of volunteers instead of a trained, united team. That dissatisfaction was calmed for some by the safe return of Commander Dawson but Jasmine, having spent years within the marines and Starfleet, saw the writing on the wall. If command had made the decision once, a precedent had been set and frankly, Jasmine did not want to be present to watch it occur again in the future.

Commander Dawson blessed her departure from the team with the caveat that Jasmine be available should an emergency arise before the team acquired a new medical officer. Jasmine willingly agreed to the condition and even left the door open for her potential return in the future should things change with how the RRT units were viewed by HQ.

Fortunately, Tyrol was easily able to secure a position as the CMO aboard the Artemis. It was a position that she did not intend to hold in the long term, which the ship’s CO was well aware of, but it gave her a landing spot until she knew what she wanted long term.
