Personal History

Alex was born on Earth to Betazoid parents William and Patricia Tregelen. At the age of 6 months his parents were traveling to a book signing of his fathers when the shuttle they were traveling in lost power and crashed to the ground killing all 12 occupants. At the time Alex was in the care of Jonathan and Amelia Tonsley, Jonathan being a close friend of his mothers as they had worked together on many projects. Being Alex's godparents Jonathan and Amelia were able to adopt Alex with relative ease and since they had been unable to procreate themselves they cared for him as if he was their own.

While growing up the fact that Alex was adopted was never kept from him. He always knew that he was different because he could always hear what people were thinking. His adoptive parents sent him to train at the Betazoid Embassy to gain control of his mental abilities. Through training he was able to harness his abilities and helped them grow.

His Primary and Secondary schooling was quite uneventful. He applied himself as well as he could and aside from a slip in Legal Studies was a straight A student in his senior year. He applied for Star Fleet Academy in the Science division and was accepted at the age of 17.

Time at the Academy

For further reading see Alexis Tregelen - Academy Life

Being one of the youngest Cadets at the Academy[2] was never a big trouble for Alex. While he was a little smaller than the average Cadet he had no real interest in participating in the sporting activities that the Academy offered. Instead he poured himself into his studies which meant that he was able to complete not only the standard Cadets course but also an additional degree in Temporal Dynamics with minors in Medicine and History.

During his second year at the Academy, through a mix up with room assignments he met Andra McMillan, a fellow Betazoid. This would be the first time that Alex had lived with someone else of his species aside from the training he received at the Betazoid Embassy. They grew extremely close over the 3 years that they were roommates, taking the same classes and belonging to the same social groups. During this time he was able to use his telepathic abilities a lot more than usual as quite often neither of them would speak verbally while in their dorm room preferring instead to communicate telepathically.

Alex graduated from the Academy just before his 21st birthday making him one of the youngest Academy graduates in history. He was assigned as a junior science officer on board the USS Yeager, SC-8018 under the command of Captain Joseph Valiant.

USS Yeager, SC-8018

First Mission: "Hidden Agenda"

Alex joined the crew of the USS Yeager shortly after its eventful first mission. During that mission they had lost their captain to a group of pirates and the ship was all but destroyed.

Second Mission: "Not Another Sinking Mission"

During the next mission with the USS Titan, CL-2007 and the USS Copernicus, GEC-9035 , Alex was promoted to the position of Chief Science Officer on board the USS Yeager. Their mission was to travel to the Menthar System which consisted of over 100 worlds, majority of them Class-M. Alex knew that there was something artificial going on as that many Class-M planets could not naturally form around a star. The Yeager was directed to investigate the inner most planets. They came to the planet Wagner where they were hailed by the inhabitants. This had taken all by surprise as they had expected the entire system to be uninhabited. They found that the people of the planet had a strange mutation that caused them to 'feed' off the life-force of those that did not have the mutation. The crew of the Yeager was able to leave without much harm.

They then proceeded to the next planet which was named Sharok, it seemed to be very much like an early version of Earth. In fact it was so much like earth that it seemed to be inhabited by Terran Dinosaurs. Due to some engineering malfunction the Yeager crash landed in the planets ocean. Many of the crew were able to survive however some were trapped on board, some their bodies were never recovered. It seemed to go from bad to worse for the crew as history was starting to repeat itself, an asteroid was heading towards the planet and an extinction event was about to occur. The Titan and Copernicus were able to arrive in time and evacuate the crew and retrieve the Yeager from the bottom of the ocean.

After the mission Alex met with Andra, who was posted to the Copernicus. After spending time with her they had arranged to beam down to Earth to a place where Alex had spent a lot of his youth. During transport there was a malfunction and Andra was killed.

Her death hit Alex pretty hard and he contemplated resigning his commission but decided against it, Andra wouldn't have wanted it. After spending a few weeks in the wilderness he returned to the Starbase ready for the next mission. This hit Alex very hard and while scattering her ashes Alex attempted to take his own life however a young half-betazoid woman had been passing by at the time and managed to talk Alex out of it and with a few counseling sessions he was back to duty, ready to live on in her name.

Third Mission: "Bol-ling for Planets"

The next mission was one of the hardest for Alex. A Tholian planet had been transported to another galaxy while a planet from that galaxy had been transported here in its place. The only inhabitants were a sludge type creature that attacked on sight and a holographic whale type creature who was a representation of the natural inhabitants. Being the only telepath on the away mission it was up to Alex to communicate with this creature, known as the Bol-Majesty and get them to transport the planet back to where it came from. Unfortunately the Tholians were impatient and decided to take matters into their own hands, or whatever they have and they tore a large chunk of the surface of the planet which destabilized the entire planet. A plan was conceived that would require someone to stay behind as the planet exploded to ensure that the transport was successful. After a heartbreaking conversation with the Bol Alex and the rest of the Yeager crew made it to safety. It was during this mission that Alex met Cassie, the woman that would become his future bride.

During shore leave Alex and Cassie spent some time together away from everyone else where Alex proposed to Cassie and she accepted. The news just kept getting better as Alex was later promoted to First Officer of the Yeager.

Final Mission: "Repossessed"

The next mission took the Yeager in search of a renegade Star Fleet officer whom had previously been the Captain of the Yeager Luke Johnson. He was tracked to a Space Station near the Klingon and Cardassian border. Thanks to some heroic actions by the Marine team the crew was able to reclaim the space station and were then transferred as the permanent crew.

Space Station Sierra 18, SS-18

First Mission: "Bad Weather"

Not long after the crew of the Yeager transferred to Sierra a powerful ion storm was spotted heading towards the station. All non-essential personnel were evacuated and the skeleton crew prepared to weather the storm.

The force of the storm was stronger than first thought however and it damaged a number of systems including gravity. The storm also had a secondary effect where the majority of the crew began to hallucinate but thanks to his training and telepathic abilities Alex was able to keep it together long enough and the storm passed.

Second Mission: "Not A Boring Conference"

This will contain information about the second mission

Third Mission: "The Loss" - Fall of Sierra and Temporary Re-assignment

Sierra had been invaded. First there was an attack by a Klingon fleet that just turned and ran half way through the battle and before repairs could be made a fleet of Romulan vessels appeared and Sierra was boarded. Alex ordered the evacuation. With a small group of officers Alex managed to make his way through the jefferies tubes and to the small repair facility where Lieutenant Commander Melissa Miller, Sierra's chief fighter pilot was waiting with a group of other pilots. They were soon met by a group lead by Captain Valiant. While attempting to gain entry into the repair bay Lieutenant Commander Vaughn was hit with friendly fire and disintegrated. This would later be revealed to have been a Satarran infiltrator.

Escaping from Sierra the group made their way to Risa on the Captains orders, much to Alexs astonishment. There it was revealed that Captain Valiant was also a Satarran infiltrator and was killed by Lieutenant Commander Nielson. The crew then traveled aboard the USS Brisbane to Starbase Bravo where Alex received new orders. He was to divide the crew between a fleet of 20 ships and they were to attempt to retake Sierra. Alex, along with Cassie, Miller, Revas and Tam were assigned to the USS Ticonderoga. As the Ticonderoga's First Officer Commander Braggins was one of only a few fighter pilots cleared to fly in the new XF-2 fighters Alex assumed his position as First Officer of the Ticonderoga, albeit only temporarily. The Romulans were defeated and they retreated off the station which once again came into Star Fleet hands.

USS Titan, CL-2007

First Mission: "A Titan Reborn"

After the successful retaking of Sierra Alex was made commanding officer of the USS Titan. For the previous two years the Titan had been under the command of Captain Malcolm Reynolds but as he approached retirement Alex was promoted to the rank of Captain and given command of the Light Cruiser. The first mission looked like it was going to be uneventful, escort a convoy of mining equipment to a mining colony on Altair IV. The owner of the mining colony, Gile Munden had asked for the escort as his vessels were constantly coming under attack by Klingon forces. The Titan along with the USS Detroit and USS Tokyo were given the task to escort and protect the convoy.

En route to the Altair system various malfunctions began to plague the Titan ranging from flickering lights to a malfunctioning holodeck. Eventually they were fixed but not before the Titan was put into serious danger. The malfunctions caused the Titan to drop out of warp and be left dead in space as a comet approached on a collision cause. Despite the best efforts of the Titan crew they were unable to either get out of the way of the comet or to change the trajectory of the comet. Thankfully the remainder of the convoy had realized that the Titan had dropped out and had returned, pulling the Titan out of the way in the nick of time. Alex considered turning back and taking the ship back to spacedock to have the malfunctions looked at but he was assured but his engineering staff that all of the effected systems had been repaired.

Continuing onto the Altair system the convoy soon found themselves under attack from a force of Klingon vessels as soon as they entered the system. With no other choice the convoy was forced to defend itself, unfortunately taking heavy damage in the process. Eventually the Klingons ceased their attack and began communications. They had evidence that Mr Munden had been working with the Romulans and that is why they were attacking his convoys. Although Alex had his own thoughts on Munden there was no concrete evidence that he had been involved with the Romulans. Alex ordered Munden to be taken to the brig as a show of good faith towards the Klingons so that they would allow them to pass and reach the planetary defenses of Altair IV.

It was not long however until the true intentions were revealed. As the Titan beamed down an away team lead by its First Officer Lieutenant Commander Cooper a Romulan Bird of Prey decloaked and began attacking the Titan. Due to a carefully concealed virus Munden was able to disable power to the shields and his holding cell, allowing a team of Romulan commandos to board the ship and transport him to safety. With the Titan unable to pursue the Romulans the Klingon vessel followed the Romulans as they went to high warp heading for the Romulan border.

The Titan was able to locate some more evidence against Munden, although it was no longer necessary due to his obvious Romulan involvement however during the away mission Lieutenant Commander Cooper was seriously injured forcing him to resign from the Titan.

Second Mission: "From Kronos with Love"

Star Fleet was quick to get the Titan back out in the field, they assigned Lieutenant Commander Dempsey as the Titan's new First Officer. Alex had dealt with his before during the mission to retake Sierra 18 where he had accused Alex of knowingly allowing a saboteur on board the Ticonderoga. Alex appreciated his commitment to his crew and his willingness to stand up to a superior officer so was happy to have him as his first officer.

This mission was a simple one, go to a planet Kyrten in a system close to the boarder and facilitate first contact as they had recently become warp capable. Alex lead the away team to the planet which consisted of Lieutenant Caine, Ensign Boehm, Ensign Westfield, Ensign Stadi and Midshipman Rossi however shortly after they landed a political gaffe forced the away team to leave their weapons along with Ensign Westfield in the shuttle otherwise they would be forced to leave the planet. Alex knew that it was either that or contact the Federation Diplomatic Corps and have them travel to the planet and have them fix the situation.

The team were lead to the central chamber where they met with the leader of the planet, Prime Chancellor Kreytus Marcellous. This was a particularly interesting meeting punctuated by the fact that it was interrupted by a team of Klingons which Alex knew would happen considering how close they were to the boarder. The Klingons were lead by Captain Darj of the IKV Rav’nuk and not long after they arrived a firefight broke out between them. Having left their weapons behind in the shuttle the Star Fleet officers were forced to fight either hand to hand or to pick up the weapons of those that had fallen at the hands of the Klingons. As Alex was near the Prime Chancellor he was able to pull him to safety behind the throne as Ensign Boehm took on the Klingon Captain in one on one combat to which she surprisingly won. After the fall of their commanding officer the Klingons quickly retreated. The Prime Chancellor, in another show of one extreme to the other requested Federation membership.

During shore leave Alex was promoted to the rank of Commodore. With his new flag officer rank Alex set off on the next mission for the Titan and her crew, this time with some old friends coming along for the ride.

Third Mission: "A Cold Day In Hell"

The next mission seemed a simple one, patrol. After a few weeks of patrolling the boarder between the Federation, Breen and Cardassians the Titan got a call from a mining outpost in the Dante system. Proceeding there they arrived to a colony almost destroyed from orbit. An away team was dispatched to the planet aboard two shuttles but they had very little time as a storm was approaching to which the miners knew. They would normally take their shuttle to the far side of the moon however their shuttle had been destroyed in the attack. The Titan was able to assist with the miners and evacuate them to the moon and sent a request for another Federation ship to come and assist with repairs.

Following this the Titan received a distress call from a nearby planet, Sakura Prime. When they arrived they were informed of a viral outbreak that was transforming the colonists to a reptile like creature. Alex ordered a team to investigate. The team was able to reverse the effects of the outbreak and same countless lives.

With the mission over Alex felt that the crew could use some time to unwind and with a recent message from Star Fleet there were numerous promotions to be handed out, the biggest of these being the new First Officer.

Fourth Mission: "The Hourglass"

Again the Titan was out on patrol when they received orders from Rear Admiral Roberts. The Federation Colony on Lyshan IV was in danger from a super volcano and the Titan was the closest ship with enough size to accommodate all of the refugees so they were sent to evacuate the colony. With the promotion of Lieutenant Sienna Tam to First Officer Alex felt a little uneasy working with her due to their past... encounters.

When the Titan arrived at the colony a thick blanket of ash covered over the colony and prevented safe transporter usage so Commander Barrett was ordered to take a group of shuttles to the surface to rescue the remaining colonists. All was going to plan when the Titan picked up a distress signal from a Kobheerian freighter who was under attack from Nausicaan raiders. Alex decided that the best course of action was to separate the Titan and for the saucer section to continue with the evacuation of the colonists and for the engineering hull to intercept the Nausicaans.

The battle was fierce but Alex and the crew of the Titan were able to fend off the Nausicaans with only minor damage to the freighter.

Returning to the colony at Lyshan IV the Titan crew that had remained was able to use what they referred to as a 'probe ladder', a series of atmospheric probes that acted as a relay system for the colonists. Using this they were able to save all of the colonists before the volcano erupted and blanketed the surface of the planet completely. Although Alex would have loved to have stayed from a science point of view he knew that he had to get the colonists to the safety of the nearest starbase.

Fifth Mission: "Admirals, Refugees and a Sierra-shattering Kaboom"

The Titan was ordered by Admiral Roberts to transport him to Starbase 2. While on route the Titan dropped out of warp and began drifting. To Be Updated

Sixth Mission: "Murder on the Titan Express"

To Be Updated

Seventh Mission: Talking to Lizards and Demons

Reassignment to Non-Ship Duties

After the events of the previous mission Alex stood down as commanding officer of the Titan and took a position on Earth.

Investigating Valiant

Alex received word that his old friend Captain Valiant was being held captive in Cardassian space. Along with Commodore Julia Nielson he investigated the reports, wanting to get to the bottom of what happened to Valiant all those years ago and potentially rescue him. It was however a trap and Alex and Julia were captured. They were tortured for what seemed like an eternity before crew from the USS Yeager were able to rescue them.

Medical Leave and the Academy

Alex was placed on medical leave following his return from capture. He was sent to Star Fleet Academy as a guest lecturer where he would test the next wave of officers.

Reassignment to Pioneer and Apparent Death

Later that year Star Fleet began construction of a new outpost passed Cardassian space, Pioneer Station and Alex was selected to be its new Commanding Officer. Despite his misgivings about being on the front lines again Alex took the post and got the construction underway. It did not agree with him however and he decided to retire from Star Fleet. On his way back to Earth however his shuttle was attacked by unknown aggressors while inside a nebula, destroying the vessel and presumably Alex along with it.
