Personal History

Maedhros was born on one of three moons to the VolkAstrum Homeworld, ElhNidus. Eldest of four, Maedhros was exceptionally talented academically.

His mother, Deio, is an Interspecies psychologist seeking to study the mental differences between her own species and those of the Gamma Quadrant. While met with some hostility from other species, she was intent on getting data. When Maedhros was ten, she moved her family to a remote station near the Krynar-VolkAstrum border. From here, Maedhros learned about the cultures of different species, their traits, and pros. However, he also learned about the severe hatred for some species like the Krynar and Jem’hadar which stuck with him.

His father, Celebrioutou (or simply Cele) was the head of the Strategic Logistics Initiative. Officially he was working as a military contractor. After several decades of leading the SLI through a series of wars, he retired to be a chef--a lifelong hobby. He met his future wife while working at his own restaurant on the Citadel. While she wasn’t too impressed with the chef and his career choice, he pursued her and ended up married after a long twenty years of chasing after her.

Whilst on Zxanta Station, Maedhros felt lucky to be given the VolkAstrum education, but once he left the core worlds and reached the outer colonies he saw staggering differences in the education systems of other species. There were few VolkAstrum that far out into the colonies, and so Maedhros did not make many memorable friends as the station was plagued with racial cliques.

But among the alien cliques, he befriended a Rakhari girl named Sala and a Teplan boy: Efran, if only because of their parents. Both children's parents worked with Deio on Interspecies psychology so they spent much time together. At first, Sala and Efran were not perceptive to becoming acquaintances, but eventually, after three years of contact, they allowed themselves to speak to one another.

For Maedhros’ activity year, he signed up for the Union Medical Division and served on T’etrai III, a world close to Krynar space. His first two years were used in training with basic field medicine. When the Krynar attacked, however, he wasn’t ready. The attack wiped out most of the VolkAstrum support ships in orbit leaving Maedhros and the medical team on the planet stranded. Through the siege, Maedhros tried to work on triage with as many people as he could, but he could not handle it. Halfway through the siege, the Head doctor sent him off to help the last military unit with logistics. After the siege, he left the medical unit scared of the lives lost because he did not have the training to save them. Three years passed after the siege, where Maedhros took study time before continuing onto the Marine Corps.

Solidifying his growing hate for the Krynar he signed on with the Union Marine Corps seeking revenge. With each battle fought, the more he realized that he had signed onto the same chore as Medical. The only difference was that this time he had no way to help his teammates. On one particular battle, Maedhros and his unit were ordered with defending a front while their allies retreated. Surrounded, and low on supplies, the VolkAstrum pocket fell. Maedhros was the sole survivor of his team after watching a massacre of both civilians and VolkAstrum personal from under a partially fallen building, he was helpless to assist them. Jem’hadar forces had made their way to the aftermath of the battle and found Maedhros wearily trying to mend himself. After finding him, the Jem’hadar shot him several times a, thankfully his EVU saved him. With luck to Maedhros, the Jem’hadar knew little of VolkAstrum biology and he survived. Serving a full tour of duty, he stepped down from the marine life after becoming a Major. He returned to Core Space where he attended psychology meetings and was diagnosed with Acute Nervous Stress Disorder. A PTSD where the victim can re-experience the feeling of the event which caused the sickness. It was also found that Maedhros was suffering from Neural Degregation after his close call with death, while medicine could slow the degeneration, it is only a matter of time before it takes its toll.

Loria Prime, VolkEhar

After a year of recuperation, he went to the Academy of Advanced Sciences on AeriaNidus to study AI programming and Strategic Starship Combat Operations and Functions with his minors. Studying occupied so much of his time that it acted as therapy. If he could, Maedhros would have stayed in school. With the birth of his younger sibling S’sennia, he returned to EhlNidus to visit. After having an acute traumatic attack, his father knew he had to get back to something. He set him up with the SLI to work on the Loira Prime AI.

Maedhros worked on two subsystems of the main AI: Ferria, the terraforming and environmental systems, and Enthen, the microorganisms analyzer in charge of introducing much-needed bacteria into an environment or kill them. He also created the power system for Loria Prime which uses a self-sustaining solar collector and heavy-chroniton generator.

He stayed on VolkEhar for an additional two years looking after the intense AI. He continued to improve the AI’s system giving it enhanced sentience and personal morals. The Vi’Deus commended his work and enlisted him as a Union Officer onboard the Space station Dracon where he was poised with creating an AI for the base. When the battle for Dracon station hit, Maedhros reluctantly assisted in the Strategic Operations of the defense fleet which helped turned the tide of the battle.

After which he requested to be stationed on a research vessel, where he served as Chief Engineer. The tinkering and toiling occupied his time enough to keep his mind off of everything else. As the years progressed on the VNV Raummie, he received word that his brother Mageus had died after being attacked by Krenim. Which solidified another alien race to despise. As the war with both the Krynar and Dominion dragged on and on, Maedhros was needed as a Tactical and Strategic Officer. Ship jumping for another two years, he removed himself from Field duty and was assigned to Citadel Station to handle Union wide logistics. His duties were then extended to fleet movement and strategic planning.

When the Krynar war came to a sudden end, he found himself returning to Loria Prime, where he stayed for another few years to further the Intelligence's program. He also worked on and enhanced the VolkAstrum EVU systems. He finally created his own personal AI to assist him when off-duty: Tula.

After receiving a report that a Quarantine had been disturbed, Maedhros was assigned rapid deployment aboard the VNV Starbright to investigate. The ship followed the unknown fleet through a displacement gate and found themselves across the galaxy. Maedhros was frightened of the new country and allowed himself to present initial negative feedback of the ‘Federation’. After the Captain of the Starbright was deployed as an exchange officer, Maedhros remained on the Starbright to communicate back and forth between the Union and their officer. After a year, of watching and exchanging talk with the Federation’s species

Alpha Quadrant and the Federation

Studying Star Fleet was fascinating, in the Gamma and Delta Quadrants so many alien species working together was simply unheard of where he was from. Maedhros attended the Federation’s Star Fleet Academy for several months in cultural study. After which, he was moved to Starbase Charlie and participated in the crew as a Tactical Officer. His primary duty was to assist the Chief Tactical Officer on the Starbase, but he was occasionally sent on missions to Bajor and several aid missions to starships. Only two of which were damaged Star Fleet vessels that required tow after a battle, the others were mostly ships that had run into an engineering problem and required an engineering crew--to which Maedhros didn’t have to do anything except fly them to the vessel in question.

Maedhros fell short of a successful integration into the Federation society. The simplicities he had once found at home were nowhere to be seen. From the Compass system and EVU to even foods and starship design, his head was abuzz with confusion and fear of failure. Operating Federation consoles was a daily challenge; use to the Pre-Cognitive consoles in SLI, Maedhros grew particularly frustrated with the design layout foreign to him. His only comfort was his standard VolkAstrum Compass that aided him in his endeavors. Working on Starbase Charlie only taught him the absolute basics, forcing him to rely on his native instrument to guide him.

If he succeeded at any type of integrations it was educational. After his brief tenure at Star Fleet Academy as a liaison officer, he was free to share his technological prowess with the Federation if any members were interested. Yet even here his demeanour was soon in a conflicting state of anger and fear. The technology in the Union was far different than in the Federation. The Federation’s use of matter anti-matter fueled FTL propulsion was barbaric to Maedhros while others he spoke with thought the Chrontion-based FTL was too hard to control and an unnecessary risk. Even though Maedhros passed all of the examinations required to serve in Star Fleet, he received surprisingly low--almost failing--marks, when he took the Union tests the next week he received near perfect.

Social constructs in the Federation also differed stagnantly from his comfort zone back home. The rigid hierarchy of the Union was almost void in the leisure time of Star Fleet officer. Adapting to being able to have conversations with enlisted and senior personnel was naturally appealing to Maedhros. Slowly but surely he was able to begin setting the dialect in with senior and junior personnel without the need to go into VolkAstrum hierarchy, but even then it was a forced effort. On a trip to Bajor from Starbase Charlie though, he saw a familiar construct: racism. War memorials were pristine on the planet and the planet levied hate for the Cardassian people was apparent. There is no better way to win a war than to fully hate the enemy. When he visited Cardassia Prime he was not surprised to see similar if not in a more subtle way to represent it. Starbase Charlie didn’t only harbor hatred for the Cardassians and Bajorans, but a few others as well including the Ferengi and Tellararites.
