A thoron is an isotope of radon.
(A radioactive, colorless, odorless, tasteless noble gas.)
Thoron radiation is a type of radiation, with many practical uses:
- Primarily, it is used as a method of interfering with sensors and transporter systems.
- Other uses include medicinal (for the Memory Virus), or as a base for certain weapons, though these weapons were known for being unstable.
- Anti-thorons can be generated on a large scale by Intrepid-class starships, and have been used to interfere with force fields.
- Thoron radiation may also hinder transporter operations, presumably by interfering with sensor readings.
