Personal History

Born to the Koras family, Ensis the second eldest child was raised in the splendor of the United Union’s Capital city. Ensis was well involved with her father and mother for much of her early life, and could barely stand to be away from them for more than several hours. When Ensis and Denton were little, they used to sleep in their parents bedroom just to be closer to them. Of course this became a problem as they grew, but it was a nice time for the small family. Family remains the most important thing to Ensis. As an officer she sees her fellow crewmembers as part of her family, and so she has a fierce desire to protect them. As a child however she had to develop these feelings and so: once she turned six she went to the VolkEhaer Duela Sanctus District’s school where she met her best friend Lilia’Toyia. Through academic struggles, disputes, and athletic competition they quickly formed a bond and to this day stay in constant contact.

Her family had always been complicated. Her father was the Regent Admiral of the UUIN naval forces, and her mother was a lead Researcher in Cognitive Technology. Her siblings were exclusively athletic versues Ensis’ interest in more philosophical pursuits. And all of their interests seemed to be polar opposites of each others in their early years. In the end they all seemed to flip their interests. Denton went on to become a Galaxy Historian, Issian decided to join the Diplomatic Corps, becoming a Liaison between his people and the New Yaderan Government. Even Azreisl, who had joined a professional sports team for a while ended up becoming a Philosophical writer. Ensis who was content without going into anything athletic, became an officer in the Volkerrian Navy.

Even though her family had different interested never meant they couldn’t be friendly. The four of them were inseparable for their youth. Taking the fall for one another or standing up as a group. Several instances occurred where they battled instructors--vocal and physically. Their parents weren’t to thrilled when that happened. Bickering between each other was rare and short lived. No matter what they had each other’s backs instead. The siblings were ultimately in a symbiosis with each other, with each sibling providing an important part of the overall relationship of the family.

Ensis was never fully liked at Sanctus school. People thought of her as too loud and vocal about her thoughts. And so she never developed too many telepathic bonds. It was a two way road however, Ensis thought that no one at the Duela Sanctus District’s school spoke their mind and refused many attempts at friendship. Despite the lack of friends, Ensis presented stellar grades in school and graduated a year earlier than most. Some would say, including Lillia, that her lack of friends created less of a distraction for her to work on her school work.

Marine Years

VNV Nautus, LS-A6001, Science and Exploration Cruiser

IlliaNidus, Dominion-Volkerrian Border, Drexia System, New Yadera, Draco System

During her assignment year she was given an Off-World assignment on board the VNV Nautus, a long-range exploration craft stationed near the edge of Dominion territory. However the Dominion had once again fired on UUIN ships, and so the vessel was reassigned to be long-range recon. Originally the VNV Nautus was assigned to investigate the recent curing of the Teplan Blight. Shortly after the start of the brief war, the vessel entered combat and Ensis got her first taste of Volkerrian unity witnessing the seamless efforts of the crew at working together. During the second engagement Ensis was on the bridge assisting the Chief Strategic Officer on the bridge--coordinating flight patterns, maneuvers, and rescue efforts. However, nearing the end of the battle the vessel was hit, the bridge was locked down after a sub-system overload, and long range communications disabled. As such she was forced to abandon her position and take up Main weapons. The exploration cruiser was not heavily equipped--Ensis was forced to take time to make heavy, key strikes against the enemy.

Once they were able to cloak and get away from the scene as well as make repairs. The Captain suggested her for on-site training, and so her and Lilia were non-commissioned officers in the UUIN army. They fought as ground officers first before being assigned to naval duties. Both of them fought in the Krynar Invasion of New Yadera as well as the Defense of Dracon station.

Being on a Science ship, she decided to start her on-site training with something involved heavily with science. She started with Molecular Biophysics, a staple to Volkerrian science, and still a widely discussed topic. She studied both her degree in Biophysics and Energy Theory aboard the vessel.

VNV Doleara, MDS-A9930: Strike and Battle cruiser

Various Locations

Once her doctorate was done she was assigned as a ground support technician. Helping out with repairing transports, assisting with communications, fixing equipment, and coordinating small ground efforts. Eventually she served as a Field Strategist in Squad Gamma-Delta-Thirtyseven, involved in the frontlines of assaults, and on the ground during support missions. Dominion personnel fighting caused Ensis to learn on the spot how to shoot straight and how to roll away from incoming fire. She didn't get the hang of it until later though. Several times she was injured and eventually she was only used to coordinate ground and air forces.

She was given a second chance during the invasion of New Yadera when the IlliaNidus forces were already beginning to remove troops from the ground. The removal of troops then turned into an evacuation, with Ensis and only a few battalions of support covering extraction. A gun was shoved in her hand and a finger pointed in the direction of incoming forces. Her and Illia were forced to hold out while the fleet deployed shuttles. From this Ensis learned how to control her shots and ended up as a decent marksman.

It turned out not to be a stunning defeat to the IlliaNidus, but a simple tactical evacuation. After that, Ensis served as a Squad Tactician. In the field she was able to research more about Molecular Biophysics due to all the different planets she visited. It also helped to be able to research a planet's atmosphere and retune their weapons to get the maximum efficiency. Ensis didn’t get to travel much during the war since it took place in a prosperous star cluster: Geiden. Ensis was glad it was kept in the cluster though, she didn’t want to ever see dominion forces on IlliaNidus.

Officer Years

Dracon Starbase, QDP-I0001: Capitol Station

Draco System

After the end of the Dominion-Volkerrian war, the Nautus was reassigned as a medical vessel towards the galactic core. Ensis wasn’t assigned a vessel since she still technically a Cadet, even though she held the rank of Lieutenant First Grade. So she resumed her studies abroad Dracon Starbase; the largest recorded space station within the Gamma Quadrant. Here she formally finished her studies in Molecular Biophysics and Energy Theory and moved on to AI and Tactical Systems Operations & Engineering, while taking Martial Arts as a required degree for ground operatives. Ensis was going to be assigned as a Cyberwarefare Officer before Dracon Starbase gave her field training handling weapons systems aboard shuttles and cruisers.

Lillia would meet Ensis at the starbase during her breaks. Even though Lillia was forcibly part of the Vi’Aeria now. They now had years of stories to tell to each other, and even after not having seen one another for so long their bond remained the same, and it ended up like picking up the conversation from yesterday. Occasionally, Ensis would take the effort to go and see Lillia at the home system, although for a shorter duration. They took great strides to see each other. Including Ensis having to travel into Dominion territory to reach her.

Ensis’ family was also largely involved with her during this time. Since she was stationary and at a civilian-allowed station, they could visit freely. Her youngest brother as it had turned out, joined the military and served as a Commander Upper Class aboard their flag vessel (and later on until he left military all together). Her oldest brother had gone on to teach Galactic History at the Capital’s university, and her little sister ended up being one of twenty Prime Ambassadors to the UUIN. Her mother had retired from her research and instead served as her husband's secretary once the last war had started.

Lastly, since there was no war going on Ensis decided to stay aboard and take on another set of degrees. She took up Hardlight Engineering, a new interest in the UUIN, and Temporal Mechanics to match. She excelled at Hardlight Engineering Theory drafting bridges in mathematical and physical application to create temporary hard light surfaces. Of course once she finished her degree she was never able to finish her research: with the beginning of the Krynar Storm.

At the start of the war, all officers were reassigned to active vessels which meant Ensis was called back to serve. Before that could happen to the officers aboard the station, it was attacked by the Krynar. Ensis helped with Flight coordination with ships having to dock and leave the stations bulwarks, before she herself had to help out. Ensis fought aboard a battle-shuttle coordinating fighter flight patterns while also administering cyberwarfare to protect their fighters from the Krynar weapons. Since Dracon Starbase was never a major repair site, only a few escorts and cruisers had been docked inside its bulwark before the attack. Ensis job in cyberwarefare was to block Krynar sensors and limit their communications--which she performed successfully. And while the fighters and shuttles weren’t able to push back the Krynar warships, they kept them at bay while the 5th Heavy Fleet came into the system beating the vestiges of Krynar ships back. Near the end of the fight, Ensis shuttle was damaged critically. Stranding her and four other officers on board. The golden mark of it all was that after the fight ended, and the damage continued to spread the vessels communication relay was also damaged and the IFF registry disabled. So not even the Volkerrian vessels could find the shuttle once its cyberwarefare suits were open-season. And if it was just the shuttle’s communication relay the vessel would have found the vessel, but instead they had boosted the signal with Dracon Starbase’s Quantum Relay, turning the whole system into a deadzone for sensors and communications. It took a whole week and the death of an officer for the crew to repair power to manoeuvring thrusters and limb back to base where Engineering crews were able to repair the ship and return the systems to normal.

After that Ensis was promoted to Ensign Captain after proving herself in command, under stress, and exhibiting great skills in tactical cyberwarefare.

Intelligence Years

Loria Prime, VolkEhar

Even though Ensis was trained in several subjects, she always felt that her real skill fell in Artificial Intelligence Programming, although Biophysics was another great passion. Ensis was contracted by the Chamber of Councils to help construct a new kind of AI core. Codenamed ‘Loria’ based on Iudan lore: the Keeper of Knowledge, this AI was to provide world wide functions. Thankfully AI technology was on the rise, and Ensis was able to work with a team of the brightest minds. The AI Loria was up in running in less than a year, although the final product took closer to two.

Loria’s functions is to provide information with the citizens of VolkEhar, as well as assist with day to day operations. In the end Loria was made to perform all the functionality that normal computers could as well as provided the ability to perform where Volkerrian officers could not. Including vessel coordination, planet defense targeting, cyber warfare, diagnostics and repair, environmental control, as well as anything else needed. Ensis programmed Loria’s primary function Loria Prime, the master AI and the director for its separate subroutines.

Ensis made sure to program the AI to develop an emotional concept, and evolve its emotions. To add on to this, Ensis programmed the AI to have its own holographic form to look like the Loria from Iudan lore. However she made sure to set safety limits for the emotional development, anger for instance was entirely blocked.

Once Loria Prime was activated, it proved successful. Ensis was then tasked with linking Loria to the rest of the IlliaNidus system. Loria was physically installed on VolkEhar, but Ensis made separate data drives at all IlliaNidus planets so that it was accessible throughout the system.

Once her task was completed the Vi’Dues suggest her, a promotion to the War Committee, which was accepted. After a two year tenure she resumed her field duty.

VNV Starbright, AS-C9281: Strategic Logistics Initiative vessel

Finally at the rank of Ensign Captain she was assigned first officer of the VNV Starbright, A long-range science carrier, constructed by the UUIN's Maximum Security Intelligence agency: Strategic Logistics Initiative. Lillia was drafted into the politics of UUIN and her rank freezed until her term was up, leaving Ensis alone.

The Krynar were a new threat, and a technologically interesting one. The UUIN couldn’t hold back Krynar forces and ended up losing ground to the invaders due to their sheer numbers. Ensis couldn’t be at every fight with every fleet. And only after the Battle of Dracon Station was she able to board the Starbright. Several times she took a heavy-shuttle to attend war conferences and assist with other fleets logistics as well as strategics. Issian had to return to IlliaNidus once the Krynar forces began to attack core Dominion worlds. The Volkerrians were spread thin trying to protect everyone, and the VNV Starbright could only handle so much. Once the ship was outfitted with advanced weaponry and systems, it was sent on its way to fight more in the war.

The Starbright, while not an assault vessel, lead several naval battles against the Krynar giving the vessel a reputation for versatility. After years of war with the enemy, one day they finally ceased assaulting the Gamma Quadrant. At this point Ensis had been Captain of the Starbright for several years and attained the rank of Vice Captain. Lillia on the other hand never returned to military duty as she was unanimously elected the UUIN Primarch.

Never had she felt so much pride for anyone as she did Lillia. The position poised the greatest risk and hardest job of all times. A Countless number of Primarchs had died young simply because of the overwhelming stress of the job, but Lillia knew how to counter that stress. Ensis would continue to worry for her even up until this day. Stress was not something easy to handle with the weight of billions on you, and Ensis could feel every pound of stress Lillia felt.

With the destruction of the Dominion government and no more threats, Lillia created the Federation Plan. A development in which the Quadrant could unite With Yaderan and Teplan support Lillia won the mover and created the Concordant Sovereignty of Leagues. Against Ensis’ thoughts. It was obvious these people would pry on the generosity of Lillia, and of the UUIN and yet she created it. Ensis was even saddened to see that her youngest brother decided to join the CSL navy.

Ensis after only a year, relieved herself of the Captain of Liaisons position and reobtained her flight profile aboard the Starbright. Because of the vessels mission type, she took it upon herself to learn everything about its stealth systems and what to do in case they failed. The vessel was refitted into Intelligence/Special Operations vessel, to observe threats in the Delta Quadrant-Gamma Quadrant border. They developed several techniques to infiltrate borg cubes in order to observe their assimilation rates. Through this, the UUIN and CSL were able to send several fleets to help defend Delta Quadrant species from the minimal Borg threat in a most efficient way. The VNV Starbright continued this for several years. And Ensis was proud to say that that she lost no one to the Borg.

Finally the vessel was alerted to a quarantine break near the Gamma-Delta Quadrant border on the Gamma Quadrant side and was sent to investigate. Telemetry from the Starbrights quarantine buoys indicated a fleet of ships which had appeared out of nowhere. Under the guise of a cloak the vessel further investigated the disturbance finding that a ship was orbiting the planet where the quarantine had started. Ensis’ ship wasn’t allowed to get any closer to the planet, but they got close to a construct that the unknown vessels were building. Ensis commanded the ship to observe the small fleet until they collected enough information. Upon finishing the construction the VNV Starbright analyzed its materials and design as well as power signatures within it, the narrowed it down to be one of three things: a large energy weapon, a repair station, or a long range beacon. Ensis wanted to know more, these aliens were unknown to the far edge of the Gamma Quadrant. Even more so foreign from the intercepted transmissions between the vessels. The aliens that she saw in these transmissions were so different from anything she had ever seen before. They were cooperative toward each other, in fact they wore the same uniforms! That was unheard of in the Gamma Quadrant--Aliens helping Aliens.

After the ring was complete the VNV Starbright moved among the fleet resting itself in the centre. When the circle was activated Ensis decided to follow the unknown vessels through. With some slight reconfiguring of their static shielding, and engine output they were able to follow the vessels through by intercepting their synchronization commands. The crew found themselves somewhere far away from their territories in a strange place. Unknowing to them at the time, the science explorer’s cloak was damaged from such a long distance they traveled. Short on time they forged credentials and activated the exit end of the gate, heading back through it to the Gamma Quadrant. Gathering a diplomatic fleet, they activated the gate again and headed back to meet with the aliens.

Star Fleet Years

USS Riverdale, CA-6512

Sol System. Vulcan System, Deep Space

Ensis applied to be the officer exchange common in Volkerrian society. Once that was accepted the Federation placed her as Helm Officer aboard an Avenger-Class cruiser patrolling core systems The USS Rvierdale saw little action during her short time aboard, even against her wishes. She was able to see the many species within the United Federation of Planets through her experiences though. Hundreds if not thousands of different kinds of denizens roaming the quadrants. So many different cultures. So many different ways of doing things and understanding. And so Ensis applied to stay within the Federation for a time of at the minimum seven years before returning to her home quadrant to serve.

On her first visit to Starbase Delta she was greeted by a Georgia Hemlock, a Star Fleet Commodore turned Ambassador. She was the nicest Human she had met so far, and by far the most intelligent she had met. Hemlock and Ensis had dinner on several occasions and she even introduced her to her husband. Ensis formed a bond with the women, although weaker than Lillia’s it was still a bond.

Finally Ensis was ready to give her first assessment to the Union. She waited in her quarters for the Officer, but instead found herself stopped by a small group of Star Fleet officers dressed in grey. Ensis hadn’t seen them in the fleet before, but here they were. Of course she had to sign a disclosure agreement before they would talk. It turned out that she was to be recruited because of her expertise on ships with cloaking technology. Ensis didn’t realize the only reason Federation ships didn’t have cloaks was because they weren’t allowed to be another empire. And so she would lend her expertise to the Federation both as an Intelligence operative and as a cloak expert.
