Ten Forward is a nickname typically given to a lounge or recreation facility aboard Star Fleet starships, and serves much the same function as a mess hall.
It's name is derived from a lounge aboard the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-D, which was located on Deck 10, section 1.
Ten Forwards are typically equipped with at least one replicator to produce food and drinks. Depending on the size of the ship, a bar may be available with a dedicated civilian wait staff which serve patrons both at the bar and at tables.
Children are not usually allowed in Ten Forward unless accompanied by an adult.
In case of low-power or emergency situations, Ten Forward is a designated emergency environmental support shelter.
