Template:Sidebar Species

This template provides each item of the sidebar of all species pages.

To make use of this sidebar template, Template:Sidebar Species, the species page must include the following lines at the top of the page:

Image

|Image=Image Name.extension This item is required.

• Upload the image file.
• Note that the file’s actual name must replace “File Name,” and that the file’s actual extension must replace “.png.” Accepted image file formats include .jpg, .jpeg, .png, and .gif.
• To avoid display errors because of missing images, try one of three things: (1) Check that the image file is uploaded. (2) Check the file name for correct spelling that matches the actual file name, including the file extension. (3) Ensure that the |Image= line is included only once in the biography and that it is not blank.

Homeworld

|Homeworld=Homeworld Name

• If the name of the species is the same as the name of the homeworld it should be listed as "Name (Planet)" but still display as "Name". To do this include a single pipe mark, like this:

Quadrant

|Quadrant=Name

• To avoid display and categorization errors, do not include the word 'Quadrant' along with the name. This will automatically be added. This will denote what image is displayed below the infobox.

Affiliation

|Affiliation=United Federation of Planets

• Note that “United Federation of Planets” here actually determines both the sidebar headers’ color and the text of the “Affiliation” information box, and should reflect the character’s affiliation—not the character’s species—and the appropriate one of the following should replace it:

• To avoid display errors because of double square brackets, do not include double square brackets along with the affiliation. To avoid display errors because of color, try this: Leave “United Federation of Planets” blank, like this: |Affiliation=, for a neutral color.
• For neutral or unaffiliated characters, leave “United Federation of Planets” blank, like this: |Affiliation=.

HeightM

|HeightM=Range

• This is the average height range for a male of this species.
• Use either the Template:feet or Template:cm templates, eg {{feet|5|4}} to {{feet|6|5}}

WeightM

|WeightM=Range

• This is the average Weight range for a male of this species.
• Use either the Template:lbs or Template:kg templates, eg {{lbs|130}} to {{lbs|240}}

HeightF

|HeightF=Range

• This is the average height range for a female of this species.
• Use either the Template:feet or Template:cm templates, eg {{feet|5|4}} to {{feet|6|5}}

WeightF

|WeightF=Range

• This is the average height range for a female of this species.
• Use either the Template:lbs or Template:kg templates, eg {{lbs|130}} to {{lbs|240}}

AgeM

|AgeM=Number

• This is the minimum age allowed for entrance to Star Fleet Academy. If your character enters the Academy before this age it will need to be approved during the bio evaluation stage.

Age

• This is the average life expectancy of this species.

PC

|PC=Yes/No

• This is if this species is allowed for use as a PC character.
• Use either "Yes" or "No"

NPC

|NPC=Yes/No

• This is if this species is allowed for use as a NPC character.
• Use either "Yes" or "No"

Tips

The following tips may be helpful in specific situations to enhance the display of the sidebar of a character’s biography.

Break

<br> Use this to include multiple lines of text within plain text, if necessary.

• For example, to display the names “Johannes Schwicker” and “Klingon; Ail, son of Arag” on two lines of text, include a break, like this: |Name=Johannes Schwicker<br>Klingon; Ail, son of Arag. However, to prevent display errors because of double square brackets, do not include a break within text transclusions, links, or redirects, such as double square brackets.

Non-Breaking Hyphen and Space

‑ Use this to include a non-breaking hyphen within plain text, if necessary.

  Use this to include a non-breaking space within plain text, if necessary.

• For example, to prevent unexpected line breaking or word wrapping of the serial number “GR‑279‑8899 BCN,” include non-breaking hyphens and a non-breaking space, like this: GR‑279‑8899 BCN. However, to prevent display errors because of a database error message, do not include a non-breaking hyphen or space within text transclusions, links, or redirects, such as double square brackets.
