Details—Item By Item

See below for notes about significant items of the main body of biographies.

Introduction

|Introduction= This item is optional.
 • To display text before the “Contents” table of the main body of the biography, include the text along with “Introduction,” otherwise leave it blank, as illustrated, above.

Personal History

|History=Personal History
 • To display text under the “Personal History” heading of the biography, include the text along with “History” by replacing “Personal History” with the text of the character’s actual personal history.
 • Leave a single line break, an empty line, between paragraphs of text within “History,” as illustrated, below:
... end of previous paragraph's text.

Start of next paragraph's text, text, text...
 • To include a heading that is a subheading of the main “Personal History” heading, include === Heading Name ===, with a triple equals sign on each side of the heading name, or <h3> Heading Name </h3>, between paragraphs, as illustrated, below:
... end of previous paragraph's text.
Heading Name
Start of next paragraph's text, text, text...
 • To include a subheading that is a sub-subheading of the main “Personal History” heading, include ==== Heading Name ====, with a quadruple equals sign on each side of the heading name, or <h4> Heading Name</h4>, between paragraphs.
 • Note that the actual heading name must replace “Heading Name.”

Goals

|Short=Short-Term Goals
|Long=Long-Term Goals
 • As an option, fulfilled goals may be indicated by including the <strike> and </strike> text formatting markups, as illustrated, below:
Text describing a goal that has yet to be fulfilled, <strike>text describing a goal that has been fulfilled</strike>.

Referrer

|Referrer=Recruiter's Player Character Name
 • Note that the recruiter’s actual player character name must replace “Recruiter’s Player Character Name,” preferably the actual page name in double square brackets. For example: |Referrer=Dys, Gloria or even |Referrer=Gloria Dys. To avoid display errors because of a broken wiki link, include the actual page name in double square brackets.
 • If the referrer is not a recruiter but an authorized recruiting website, include the full link to the site, as illustrated, below:
|Referrer=http://fed-space.com/ This link displays the actual link.
|Referrer=Join Federation Space! This link displays “Join Federation Space!”
 • Retired characters no longer display their referrers.

Career History

|CHist= This item is required, and its header and line contents require regular maintenance to reflect the character’s current career history.
 • See Template:CHHead for details about including a “Career History” table header.
 • See Template:CHLine for details about including a “Career History” table history line.

Contact Information

|contact=Official E-Mail Address
 • Note that the player’s actual official e-mail address must replace “Official E-Mail Address,” as illustrated, below:
|contact=alexistregelen@gmail.com
 • To avoid display errors because of a broken link or because of square brackets, do not include square brackets along with the official e-mail address.

Previous and Next Characters

It may be preferable to avoid the use of additional headers and then to copy and paste the career history of one character into the biography of another character’s career history. If so, make use of the “PreChar” and “NextChar” items, within the Biography section of the biography:

|PreChar=Previous Character's Name
|NextChar=Next Character's Name

Note that the previous or next character’s actual wiki name, for example: |PreChar=Tucker, Judith or even |NextChar=Judith Tucker, must replace the appropriate one of either “Previous Character’s Name” or “Next Character’s Name.” To avoid display errors because of a broken wiki link, include the actual page name in double square brackets. For multiple previous characters, include the above items in each of their biographies until either the first, which will have only the “NextChar” item, or the last, which will have only the “PreChar” item. However, compare “Characters Tally,” below.

Characters Tally

|Chars= This item is optional, and its header and line contents require regular maintenance to reflect the players’s current additional characters information.
 • See Template:CharsHead for details about including a “Characters Tally” table header.
 • See Template:CharsLine for details about including a “Characters Tally” table character line.

Tips

The following tips may be helpful in specific situations to enhance the display of the main body of a character’s biography. See also Template:Bio Sidebar under the “Tips” heading for tips that may be helpful in specific situations to enhance the display of the sidebar of a character’s biography.

References (Footnotes)

To display footnotes at the bottom of the page, simply include the footnote text between the text formatting markups, usually embedded within the main text and right after the word or phrase that requires a footnote, and as illustrated, below:

Text, text, text, word that requires a footnote. Main text continues...
 • To avoid display errors because of a redundant reference, do not include the “<references/>” text formatting markup anywhere in the biography.

Images

See Template:Bio Sidebar under the “Character Image” and “Family Image” headings to include images in the sidebar of a character’s biography. To include images in the main body of the biography, see below. Including images in the main body of a character’s biography can be challenging and may require some experimentation to get an attractive result. As a suggestion for a starting point, include the image in approximately the appropriate location by inserting it between the specific item code and its item text. (Note that these must not be sidebar items, but main body items.) Consider the examples, below:

Sample image placement: |Section=Text, text, text included with this item...
Another sample image placement: |Another Section=Text, text, text included with this item...
 • Upload the image file.
 • Note that the section’s actual name must replace “Section” and another section’s actual name must replace “Another Section.” Note that the file’s actual name must replace “File Name,” and that the file’s actual extension must replace “.png.” Accepted image file formats include .jpg, .jpeg, .png, and .gif.
 • To avoid display errors because of missing images, try one of three things: (1) Check that the image file is uploaded. (2) Check the file name for correct spelling that matches the actual file name, including the file extension. (3) Include left alignment to prevent the image from disappearing behind the sidebar template.
