Week 1
Betazoids are a race of telepathic humanoids native to the planet Betazed. Their appearance is exactly the same as Terrans. They generally do not start developing their telepathic skills until puberty, when the rush of newly- activated hormones serves to activate previously latent telepathic talents. A few Betazoids are born with telepathic abilities, but they have to go through a different and very intensive psychological experience due to their inability to filter out the noise created by normal thoughts.
Week 2
It should be noted that officially there is no such thing as SFSIS. As far as Star Fleet and the public are concerned, they simply do not exist. Much of what you see below is not listed on any Star Fleet manifest or list anywhere. Operations performed by SFSIS are the blackest of black, and are not acknowledged (successful or otherwise) by Star Fleet, the Federation, or any individual.
|
Week 5
The Enolians are a humanoid species. By the mid-22nd century, they ran the Canamar prison. They were a significant interstellar power, operating hundred of starships and several busy trading outposts. Their judicial system was not known for its fairness, however, and they arrested Jonathan Archer for smuggling.
Week 6
Species 6339 was the Borg designation for a humanoid, warp-capable species originating in Grid 124, Octant 22-theta. The Borg first encountered Species 6339 in 2371, and by 2375 over eleven billion individuals had been assimilated. Species 6339 vessels tended to be well-armed, the one encountered by USS Voyager in 2375 being equipped with twenty-two phaser cannons on their aft section alone.

Week 7
The VISOR, acronym for Visual Instrument and Sensory Organ Replacement, is a medical device that was used in the Federation to aid patients who have suffered loss of eyesight. The VISOR detects electromagnetic signals across the entire EM spectrum, and transmits those signals to the brain through neural implants in the temples of the individual via delta-compressed wavelengths. The result is a vastly different visual acuity, with VISOR-wearers able to see in the infra-red and ultra-violet ranges, and beyond. To normal Human eyes, the images relayed through the VISOR can seem disorienting and unfamiliar..
Week 8
Assigned to the 2nd Battle Group, USS Sheridan is named for the military leader General Philip Henry Sheridan who assumed the nation's highest military office at the comparative youthful age of fifty-two. Current: USS Sheridan, DD-4086 Commanding Officer(s):
|
Week 9
The 1st Battle Group is one of the numbered fleets in the Federation Star Fleet. Commanded by Rear Admiral Daniel Wueste, the 1st Battle Group is headquartered at Starbase Alpha in Sector 001 (orbiting Earth). Its operating range encompasses much of the Federation core. Sometimes referred to as the "Home Fleet," the 1st Battle Group is directly tasked with protecting not only the central systems of the Federation, but also defending against any forces threatening Federation security.
Week 10
A nucleoside that naturally occurs in the humanoid body. It plays an important role in biochemical processes, such as energy transfer and in signal transduction. It is also an inhibitory neurotransmitter, believed to play a role in promoting sleep and suppressing arousal, with levels increasing with each hour an organism is awake.
|
Week 11
NThe Klingons (Klingonese: tlhIngan) are a humanoid warrior species that originates from the planet Qo'noS (pronounced Kronos), an M-class planet. One of the major powers of the galaxy, the Klingons are a proud, tradition-bound people who value honor and combat. The aggressive Klingon culture has made them an interstellar military power to be respected and feared. Klingons believe that they have the instinctive ability to look an opponent in the eye and see the intent to kill.
Week 12
The primary mission of the Judge Advocate General's Office (often shortened to JAG) is to advise the Federation Council and President on legal matters involving the application of Federation Law pursuant to the Articles of Federation and Starfleet’s General Orders. This includes formulating and effecting policies pertaining to legal services within the Federation.

Week 13
The "dream species" are a species found in the Delta Quadrant. They are humanoid with prominent head ridges and orange skin. Although they are corporeal, they use technology to exist in a collective dream state. They broadcast this collective dream into the surrounding space and used it to trap starship crews in a shared dream. The crews then eventually perished as their bodies lacked consumption of food and water. This seemed to be a defensive measure although it may have been a method of attack. It is also unknown if this species operated real starships, because any seen in the dream state may have been illusionary.
Week 14
![]() Radue, a male Aldean The Aldeans are a civilization native to the Alpha Quadrant. Their homeworld of Aldea was considered only a legend for thousands of years. SocietyThe Aldean society was self-contained and self-sustaining with incredible technical sophistication providing daily needs. Similar to cultural myths of Neinman on Xerxes VII or the Earth story of Atlantis, Aldea was said to have shed its past of violence and cultural conflict and evolved to a pure state, devoting themselves to culture and art. The Aldean culture developed by emphasizing the fundamental principle that for "everything taken, something must be returned." It was this principle that allowed their civilization to ascend to incredible heights in technology and art.

Week 15
The sternum (also called the breastbone) is the long, flat bone in the center of the thorax (the chest).
Week 16
Check out the amazing short stories from the short story competition from this year
|
Week 17
Dilithium, (also known as radan) is an element. A member of the hypersonic series, mostly occurring as crystalline mineral. It was used in the warp drive systems of many starships. Dilithium regulated the matter/antimatter reaction in a ship's warp core because of its ability to be rendered porous to light-element antimatter when exposed to high temperatures and pressures. It controls the amount of power generated in the reaction chamber, channeling the energy released by mutual annihilation into a stream of electro-plasma.
Week 18
The Valerian Wolfhound is found in the wild only in the equatorial regions of the planet Valeria, however they are widely domesticated by Valerians and some other species. They are noted for being short-tempered and surprisingly strong and viscous when threatened or attacked.
|
Week 19
Serving as the 1st Battle Group Flagship, the USS Pulsar is named after the star type of the same name. A Pulsar is a rapidly rotating neutron star, which emits electrons at nearly the speed of light from its magnetic poles, producing an effect reminiscent of the lighthouses once used to guide maritime vessels around coastlines, shoals and reefs, or towards safe harbor. The USS Pulsar is a symbol to all who see her of Star Fleets watchful eye over the Federation.
Week 20
The Ledosians are a relatively peaceful race whose homeworld is Ledos, located in the Delta Quadrant. Many centuries prior to the 2370s, an advanced alien race known as Species 312 discovered that a majority of the population that was technologically advancing was polluting the area of a more primitive species that was their genetic ancestors, the Ventu.

Week 21
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (or laser) was discovered on Earth in the early 20th century. Most lasers use a form of crystal or gas in which the electrons have been raised to an excited state. Mirrors are then used to reflect stray photons back and forth through this medium, provoking a cascade reaction that releases a burst of light. The beam emitted from a laser is monochromatic, coherent, and has a very high intensity. High-energy lasers are thus able to focus large amounts of energy onto very small areas, which can result in considerable physical damage.
Week 22
The autonomous self-sustaining mobile holo-emitter (in short: mobile emitter) is a piece of 29th century technology which acts as a wholly self-contained holographic projector, generating the photons and force fields necessary to allow a hologram to physically interact with its environment. Constructed of a poly-deutonic alloy unknown to 24th century science, the mobile emitter is approximately the size of a human palm. The emitter is either affixed to the exterior of the active holoprogram and thereby visible, or it can be covered or enveloped by the program, effectively hiding it from view.

Week 23
Space Station Sierra -18, SS-18 is the HQ of Battle Group Gamma-3, Part of the 3rd Fleet. Commanding Officer: The Dedication Plaque Reads: "He who is prudent and lies in wait for an enemy who is not, will be victorious."--Sun Tzu Space Station Sierra 18, previously known as Intelligence Installation 18, originally began as a small observation platform concealed on the surface of two engineering-joined asteroids near the Klingon and Cardassian Borders. It was built during a time of heightened tension between the Klingon Empire and the Federation some 90 years ago. During that time span, as tensions began to grow so did Intelligence Installation 18 until it grew to the size and usefulness to attain outpost status and was renamed to Outpost 18...
Week 24
The Federation News Network is your one stop for all the news you need. Our aim is to act like a monthly Federation Space community newsletter, bringing you interesting stories both in-character and out-of-character.

Week 25
The Iconians were an ancient and highly advanced civilization that was destroyed some 200,000 years ago by the orbital bombardment of their homeworld, Iconia. Ancient texts called the Iconians "Demons of Air and Darkness", who were said to have the ability to appear at will on far-flung planets without the use of starships. Later this was found to be a reference to the Iconians' gateway technology, whose instant teleportation allowed them to establish outposts at least as far as Vandros IV in the Gamma Quadrant. Until the discovery of Iconia in 2365, the Iconians were still dismissed by many as nothing more than myth.
Week 26
The USS Yeager SC-8018 was launched on Stardate 20305.01 from the Archimedes Shipyards in response to the continuing threat of war against the Federation.

Week 27
The Mosaram Class Warbird was launched in the early 25th Century as a modern replacement for the Dvoridex Class Warbird. These large vessels feature the latest in Romulan weaponry and technology and are at the forefront of any military action. With ablative armor as well as a cloaking device and high maneuverability, the Mosaram Class can engage enemy vessels head-to-head or in the usual hit-and-run style of most Romulan ships. The vessel's large wingspan, however, puts it at a disadvantage in close-range combat.
Week 28
Designed on a joint Star Fleet Marine Corps and Dhar'hyyk Defence Force committee, the XF-2 Fighter was meant to act not as a replacement for current Star Fleet Fighters, but to supplement them and provide Fighter Support to ships not normally large enough to carry a Squadron.
|
Week 29
The Romulan people are the descendants of those Vulcans who chose to reject the teachings of Surak and who found value and nobility in continuing to follow the Old Ways. Romulan history is dominated by long periods of isolation followed by short bursts of aggression, the consequences of which invariably lead them back into isolation again. It is through this cyclic framework that Romulan history is best understood. The Romulan people have a strong sense of continuity with the past. Tradition is important, and remembrance of past events forms the heart of their cultural philosophy.
Week 30
The Cicero Class Support Escort was developed several years ago to serve the purpose of allowing for short-medium range exploration and protection for planetary and star bases. The class is well equipped for these missions and has sufficient weaponry to protect itself.
|
Week 31
Marine Captain is a military rank, the equivalent of which is used by the service organizations of many civilizations. The title of captain is often used by vessel commanders and, as a naval rank, in many earth navies and Starfleet, is above commander. As an infantry rank, captains rank subordinate to a major and above a first lieutenant.
Week 32
Talarians are characterized by a distinctive hairless enlargement of the coronal area of the skull extending in two lobes to the back of the head. Talarian blood is red and they are prone to radiation burns and respiratory distress. Raktajino is known to have intoxicating effect on Talarians.
|
Week 33
Helium is a chemical element, number 2 on the periodic table. Week 34
When first commissioned, the Intrepid-class featured many innovations then becoming available, not least being the tricyclic input manifold of the warp core and variable-geometry pylons. The class was also the first to incorporate bioneural gel packs and was equipped with the Mark 1 Emergency Medical Hologram system. Capabilities upon introduction were equally impressive. The class boasted the best navigational sensors, and the highest top speed of any Star Fleet vessel until the development of the Prometheus-class. Its multi-mission design was backed up by a main computer processor capable of simultaneously accessing 47 million data channels and sustaining 575 trillion calculations per nanosecond.
|
Week 35
The Srivani are a warp-capable humanoid species from the Delta Quadrant. The Srivani believe that experimentation on other species is an acceptable method of investigating their own physiology, and justify the inevitable harm caused by citing the number of Srivani lives saved as a result.
Week 36
The United Federation of Planets (abbreviated as UFP and commonly referred to as The Federation) is an interstellar federal republic, composed of planetary governments that agreed to exist semi-autonomously under a single central government based on the principles of universal liberty, rights, and equality, and to share their knowledge and resources in peaceful cooperation and space exploration. The Federation Star Fleet was incorporated as the peace-keeping and humanitarian armada of the Federation , in addition to exploratory, scientific, and diplomatic functions.

Week 37 ![]() The pulmonary veins entering the Human heart The pulmonary veins are a group of blood vessels which carry oxygenated blood directly to the heart. With the exception of the umbilical veins found in a fetus, they are the only veins in the body of most humanoid species which carry oxygen-rich blood to the heart. All other veins carry deoxygenated blood towards the heart, while it is the role of arteries to move oxygenated blood away from the heart.
Week 38
The USS Titan is named for the giants of Greek Mythology, the quality of prodigious size, strength, and achievement, and for the 11th moon of Saturn. The USS Titan, CL-2007 was launched on Stardate 20206.01 in response to the Romulan threat against the Federation. The ship has successfully survived battles against both the Borg and the Romulans and continues to serve honourably in the 2nd Battle Group.

Week 41
The electro-plasma system (also called EPS for short, electro-plasma distribution network, or plasma grid) is the primary form of energy distribution on Federation starships and space station.
Week 42
The Wadi are a humanoid species from the Gamma Quadrant initially discovered by the Vulcans. They became the first species from the Gamma Quadrant that the Federation would officially make first contact with. They have an unusual preoccupation with games and gambling, including the game Chula.
|
Week 43 ![]() Redjac displayed on a viewscreen
Redjac is an intelligent, non-corporeal and non-humanoid entity which requires a humanoid host to enable it to feed. It has been encountered in the Alpha Quadrant but its actual place of origin is unknown. Whether Redjac is a unique lifeform or a member of a species of similar lifeforms is also unknown.
Week 44
The Chalnoth are a warlike, warp-capable species native to the planet Chalna. The Chalnoth do not believe in government so their society exists in a state of total anarchy, where only the strong survive.

Week 47
On a Federation starship, a power transfer conduit (abbreviated PTC) is an advanced type of plasma conduit, used for carrying warp plasma from the vessel's warp core to the drive nacelles. The conduits are magnetically shielded against the superheated warp plasma, and are roughly 0.6 to 1 meter in width.
Week 48
Note: This is a PC and NPC rated species. The Klingons (Klingonese: tlhIngan) are a humanoid warrior species that originates from the planet Qo'noS (pronounced Kronos), an M-class planet. Klingons are known to be very strong and resilient physically. They resist diseases and injuries much better than their human counterparts. The ability is due to a characteristic called “brak’lul”. brak’lul refers to the system of redundancies within the Klingon physiology. The most common misconception of this is that Klingons have multiple organs that are redundant to each other, such as 2 hearts, 4 kidneys, 4 lungs, etc. While the idea of multiple redundant organs is incorrect, it is not far from the truth. In actuality, the Klingon body does incorporate multiple redundancies for almost all of the vital functions. This is done by a lobe/chamber duplication, rather than full organs. For example, a human heart contains 4 chambers. In Klingons there are 8 chambers. Lungs would be 4 lobes, instead of 2 like humans, and so on. They have twenty three ribs (arranged in a sort of latticework). Some geneticists believe the redundancy within the organs, notably the lungs, evolved to give Klingons greater stamina on the battlefield. The Klingon cranium is twice as thick as a human skull. This feature was specifically designed to protect the brain when receiving a blow to the head. Klingon foreheads contain ridges due to the skull having outgrowths on the frontal lobe. Interestingly, the forehead is not the only place where a Klingon possesses ridges. There are similar ridges running along the sternum, spine, and feet. In addition, the first metatarsal bone that leads to the big toe has an outgrowth on it. These growths on the Klingon skeletal structure have lead scientists to believe that at some point in the past, Klingons may have needed the additional protection on vital bone structures, and or may have had additional attributes that would help in a fight.

Week 49
Library Computer Access and Retrieval System (also called LCARS or library computer) is the control interface used by Star Fleet for accessing the main computer systems on board Federation starships. LCARS uses sophisticated artificial intelligence routines to understand and execute voice commands, as well as touch screen interfaces for keypad commands.
Week 50
Note this is NOT a PC and NPC rated species. The Calamarain are intelligent, non-corporeal lifeforms that exist as clouds of ionized gas. They were once tormented by Q, who insisted that he did nothing "bizarre" or "grotesque" to them. The Calamarain communicate with high-pitched noises and grindings. They emit Berthold rays when probing something. When Q lost his powers in 2366 and was exiled to the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-D to live as a human, the Calamarain sensed the chance for revenge and attacked Q and the Enterprise. To save the ship, Q took a shuttle to divert the Calamarain's attention away. This noble deed convinced the Q Continuum to restore his powers. Q immediately attempted to exact retribution against the Calamarain, but Q2 forced Q to let the Calamarain go without harm.
|
Week 51
Note: This is a PC and NPC rated species. The Elaysians are a humanoid civilization native to Elaysia, a low-gravity planet. The Elaysian physique and neural motor cortex is adapted to cope with a low gravity; on their homeworld they are virtually able to "fly". When exposed to Earth-standard gravity environments they need physical support to function. The type of support varies but includes wearing an external skeleton with integrated servomotors which helps by supporting the person's own skeleton. This only functions for short periods of time. For longer-term physical support other forms of support are needed, like a wheelchair or an anti-grav unit.
