Change Field Marshall to General of Marines

I'd like to have the Marine rank listed here as "Field Marshall (FMar)" changed to "General of Marines (GoM)" as it is listed in the rank comparison page where it is set equivalent to Fleet Admiral. I didn't want to go and just change it because I know the Academy is your area Joe. --Bateson 15:28, 25 March 2008 (PDT)

Field Marshall was a nod to our European bretheren, though I'm not oppossed to changing it most of our ranks are American equivelants. Would it hurt to throw some european ranks in there? --Beckett 20:50, 29 March 2008 (PDT)

No offense to our European friends, but I agree with LtCol Bateson here. And personally I think it would be silly to try mix rank systems to appease some people; it would end up causing confusion. Besides aren't we doing that already with the "Cmdr" rank? The US has no such rank. Just my thoughts.

I see (I think) the goal that using ranks from multiple nations is trying to accomplish - having SF be a mix of all earth's nations, just like it is in the shows. A rank like "General of Marines" is completely fabricated, so is therefore the optimum choice because it has no roots in any nation's military - it's another FS creation. --Bateson 07:07, 30 March 2008 (PDT)

I get comments all the time asking why is everything is so American centered on the site. So wanting to display some European rank heritage has more to do with the site's international community than it does in wanting the game world to appear international. How about using COmmandant? I believe it has heritage on both sides of the pond. --Beckett 09:02, 30 March 2008 (PDT)

Commandant as name of rank and position...I like it! --Bateson 09:31, 30 March 2008 (PDT)

I completely understand wanting to have heritage from all sides of the world, as long as we make it within reason. I'm sure no one is suggesting we use Russian or Chinese ranks. My only concern was that we would have a completely weird ranking system if we fell into that kind of thiking. That being said, I DO like Commandant idea. Sounds cool. By the way, how come my name doesnt appear after my posts? -- Joe

At the top of this editing window there are a bunch of boxes to click on, bolding, italic, etc. The second to last one is the signature. Just click that and it inserts the code and you're good to go. --Bateson 18:24, 30 March 2008 (PDT)

You can type --~~~~ to add your sig. --Tregelen 19:26, 30 March 2008 (PDT)
