Personal History

Born on Starbase 23, where her father was Chief Engineer and her mother a science officer, T'Mana grew up familiar with the daily routine of life in Star Fleet. At age 12, her parents were reassigned to the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards shipyards at Mars, where she began to develop an interest in piloting. She decided against applying to Star Fleet Academy, though, and instead chose to pursue higher education on Vulcan, where she could spend time among her own people.

While studying for a degree in starship engineering, she took flight lessons in her spare time, and upon graduating was able to secure a job with Vulcan High Command as a long-range shuttle pilot. She spent the next few years ferrying diplomats, scientists and other state officials to various locations around the Federation, before becoming a flight controller. Not long after taking her new position, she met her future husband, Sivak, who also worked as a controller. The two formed a bond and later decided to marry, eventually having one child, a daughter, T'Ler.

After the Romulan Star Empire emerged from isolation during the 2360s, T'Mana and Sivak both decided that their skills could be best be used by Star Fleet, Still young by Vulcan standards, they applied to Star Fleet Academy and were accepted into the tactical program. Their previously learned skills as pilots allowed them to be pushed through on an accelerated program, and in 2370 they both graduated. While they initially served together on the same vessel, when the Dominion War broke out, they were assigned to different ships. T'Mana spent most of the war on the USS Venture, which took part in both Operation Return and the First Battle of Chin'toka in 2374. Sivak was assigned to the USS ShirKahr, which also saw action at the First Battle of Chin'toka. He lost his life when the ship was destroyed, and T'Mana found herself suddenly alone with a child to raise on her own.

She had little time to worry about her situation, though. Not long after Sivak's death, she was selected to pilot a shuttle during a covert raid into Cardassian held territory. Coming under heavy fire, the shuttle was shot down, and all aboard were taken to a prison camp. She endured harsh treatment and watched many of her teammates die before the camp was liberated. After being returned to Deep Space 9, T'Mana took a leave of absence and returned with her daughter to Vulcan. She spent almost a year studying traditional Vulcan discipline, trying to contain her memories of the war, before returning to duty on the Venture at the start of the First Federation/Romulan War. By that war's end she'd been named Chief Tactical Officer. She eventually earn the position of First Officer and was later promoted to Commanding Officer of the USS Saratoga, where she served during the First General War, earning a reputation as a brilliant strategist. She became a Group Commander before the war ended in 2395 and was promoted to flag rank.

With the reorganization of Star Fleet after the war, T'Mana was offered a position at Star Fleet Command as a tactical advisor. She accepted, moving to Earth, and eventually rose to become Commander of Star Fleet Tactical at the rank of Admiral before being named as head of Star Fleet's Chief Information Offficer in 2402. She served in that capacity for the next nine years. Upon the retirement of Fleet Admiral Benestead, she was offered the position of CinC, which she accepted, hoping to successfully lead Star Fleet into a new era where the balance of power in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants had shifted after the last war with the Romulans.
