Evelyn and Daniel met shortly after Daniel completed his academy training. His ship was escorting a Betazed Ambassador back to his home planet. The ship became infected with a kind of computer virus that rendered the ship unable to continue its journey until the problem was solved. For a few years afterwards, Evelyn and Daniel communicated to each other and Daniel would go to see Evelyn every time he went on shore leave.

Evelyn would stay with her parents on Betazed when her husband went on missions, she loved to study plants of all types from different planets and on occasion Daniel would return with samples for her. She retired from working with plants over 20 years ago when the news came that she was to have twins. After having two boys, Evelyn was glad to finally have a little girl. Although Evelyn has always feared the dangers that come with joining Starfleet, she respects her children’s wishes and will not hold them back.

Daniel retired from his post as Chief of Security 5 years ago. Although from his appearance and energy level, one would not think he was as old as he was. He knew that he had reached a point that he knew it was time to move aside and let a new generation take over. Daniel is very proud of all of his children and hopes that he becomes as successful as he was.

Both parents currently have a home on Betazed with their youngest son Elis.

Personal History

Isabela was born on planet Betazed, along with her twin brother Sebastian. Marco was 17 at the time and had enrolled in Starfleet Academy. Jakub was only 8 and stayed with his grandparents for a few weeks while his mother got settled in with the twins. With her children being only half Betazoids, Evelyn knew that, at most, her children would be empathic, although she did teach them to communicate telepathically each other. Isabela and Sebastian seemed to have a strong telepathic connection to each other, even as babies. For the first 5 years, the twins were unable to be separated without crying out as if they were in extreme pain. It was not unusual for twins, even in human culture, to have a strong connection to each other. Evelyn's mother told her many times that it was okay and that once they were older that they could be taught to not be so dependent on each other.

Isabela, along with Sebastian, was given a greater amount of telepathic training than their other siblings. They worked mostly with their grandmother, as their mother was with child shortly after they were old enough to being learning. The training included finding and learning how to turn on and off the connection to her brother at will, so that being separated did not cause them so much distress. Isabela and Sebastian remained very close throughout the years, even with the training to cut of dependency upon one another.

As Isabela and Sebastian started school, their training with their grandmother continued. It became very apparent after a year of being in school that Isabela had a strange habit of sending her thoughts to her brother and having him answer for her. On occasion, if Sebastian wasn't present, she would telepathically speak to the teacher, instead of giving verbal answers. Her mother did not know why she did this or how to help her get rid of it. It did not bother a lot of people, most of them just figured that Isabela was shy and that she would grow out of it. It was soon that their mother realized that both Isabela and Sebastian could project their thoughts to their siblings, despite not being full Betazoids, but that seemed that it was the extent of their abilities.

By 8, Isabela began researching human culture to get a better feel of her human background, unlike her brothers that wanted to completely embrace their Betazoid nature. She seemed most interested in the different Martial Artist Styles. Isabela very quickly became self-taught in Ninjutsu (Using any Holodeck programs and sometimes Sebastian, to hone her skills). She also began to study the art of Dim Mak (Death Touch), although she had to keep this a secret and never used it on a living being. After a year or so, she abandoned the study of Dim Mak, although she still has it in her mind to try and use it as a last resort (if it worked).

As Isabela reached her teens, it was apparent that her lack of interest to speak to others verbally was not going away as everyone predicted. Her mother began to worry constantly that this might hinder Isabela later in life. Her mother's fears were finally realized when the family went to visit Daniel's parents on earth. Isabela had found a remote location to train herself and severely injured her leg, unable to move it or walk (Evelyn later explained to Isabela that Sebastian was quickly irritated and angry, as if he could tell something was wrong, but was unable to put it into words). Two Starfleet officers found her hours later, unable to express herself or the amount of pain she was in, the officers took her to a nearby medical clinic and she was kept there for a few more hours until they were finally able to get an I.D. from her and informed her mother of her injury. Isabela suddenly realized that not having a way to communicate with non-Betazoids had almost been her death. She feared what would happen to Sebastian if she had not been found in time (She believed that if either one of them died that the other would die instantly as well). Evelyn had also finally had enough of worrying about her daughter and ordered the entire family to cease all telepathic communications with Isabela. Although Marco and Jakub (while on shore leave) ignored all telepathic communication, Sebastian and Elis continued to speak to Isabela despite her own protests.

It was when she was 14 that her father came home for an extended shore leave, and it was also that same 2 year time span that Isabela finally found her words. She was not as close to her father as most of her friends were, as her father was in Starfleet and was usually away from home, but she loved him just the same. It was the schooling that her father gave her, when he learned that she was studying different styles of fighting, along with the stories that he told her that kindled her interest to follow in his footsteps. It seemed to be the time with her father, and his inability to communicate with her telepathically that finally forced her to learn to speak out. Although her parents quickly learned that it was, in fact, harder for her to express herself or describe something verbally. Sebastian had already, many years before, decided to join Starfleet like his father and brothers before him, but was not sure if it was right for Isabela and figured that if he told her, she would join just to be around him.

Between 14 and 16, Isabela trained herself harder and tried to work on her verbal skills as much as she could, knowing that she would not be able to telepathically communicate with any or all of the crew members on her ship (Her mother also explained to her that it was very rude to speak telepathically to someone if there were others around that could not do the same). She also had to think about the possibilities that Sebastian would be on a completely different ship than her or if he stayed in the Academy for longer than she did. Isabela's verbal skills improved enough for her to be able to communicate somewhat clearly and more or less "pass", as it were. Although she still mixes up her words, she has learned to use her hands while speaking to try to get her point across if the correct wording escapes her.

Her time at the Academy was not without its own complications. Even with Sebastian having joined at the same time as her, he had decided to follow a different career path than her, leaving her to use what little communication skill she had to speak with the other cadets. Much to her surprise, none of the other Cadets seemed to have problem with her constant misspoken phrases or her inability to get in-depth jokes. In fact, a few of them came together and formed a group for the sole purpose of teaching Isabela how to form the correct words from her thoughts.

Isabela had already learned to use the emotions of others as a means to figure out their fighting style or to predict their next move. Although she was tiny compared to the Klingons in her class, she had earned their respect with knowledge and her will that she would rather die than fail.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Security (Hand-to-Hand Combat) & Tactical/Combat Maneuvers (Strategic Planning/Strategist)
Academy Minor(s): Science & Medical
Hobbies and Pastimes: Using the advanced training Holodeck program that her older brother Marco wrote for her; continuing her studies of different fighting styles; Playing 20th century "battle games" to hone her strategic skills.
Short-Term Goals: Isabela hopes to improve her speech by working with her crew mates
Long-Term Goals: Isabela hopes to prove her father proud by surpassing all of her brothers’ achievements.
Personality: Very outgoing and adventurous; highly protective of her friends/family.
Sense of Humor: Although she has a hard time understanding jokes/sarcasm and occasionally messes up a phrase or two, she loves telling jokes and making others laugh.
Phobias: Atychiphobia, Fear of Failure. Isabela does not believe in failing, nor does she believe in losing, and will sacrifice all to keep her from failing.
Likes: Isabela spends her time Training or Sparing. If she isn’t doing either one of those you can find her doing research. She also enjoys telling jokes and being around her friends.
Dislikes: Human Food/Drink (including sweets), Mushy or elaborate signs of affection.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: When people tap repeatedly on any surface out of boredom or impatience. Someone that is not completely honest, even when they know she can tell that they are lying.
Bad Habits or Vices: If Isabela cannot think of the word or how to describe the phrase she wants to use, she will snap her fingers repeatedly until she gets it.
Achievements: Getting into Starfleet Academy despite her vocal handicap; Being one of the top fighters in her class but not necessarily the strongest.

Illnesses: No Illnesses, although Isabela has a history of broken limbs from her training.
Strengths: Strong sense of mortals and the overwhelming urge to protect everyone around her.
Weaknesses: The habit of running head first into danger or a situation without thinking about her safety or repercussions of her actions. She also has a hard time expressing herself, due to her habit of projecting her thoughts to her twin brother and having him answer for her.
Fears: Her greatest fear is losing twin brother, Sebastian. She fears that his death would result in her death due to their very close mental connection.
Prejudices: Ferengi, or any species that she cannot feel emotionally.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Jeans/Pants & Shirts. Hates wearing skirts/dresses or anything "girly"
Distinguishing Features: Her eyes always seemed to be narrowed in confusion; although one could dispute that it looks like she is angry all the time.
Friends: Her Twin Brother, Sebastian. Her mother would argue that it was only because of their close connection that it appeared that they were very close, but most knew that Isabela only felt truly safe when she could feel Sebastian nearby. Isabela feels like no matter what, she could tell her twin anything and unlike everyone else, even her family; he won’t judge her or put her ideas down.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Isabela will always remember the long hours on earth after her injury. It was in those long, pain filled hours that she realized if she had learned to verbally communicate that she would not be in this situation. Knowing all of this, along with her fear of dying and killing her twin, gave her a kind of resolve, and a strong will to keep herself live, despite the grueling odds that were against her.
Best Time: Her best time would be her time with her father. She was overjoyed that he was not upset with her when he found out how she trained herself, unlike her mom who thought that her fighting was not "lady like". Not only did her father help her out by allowing her to further her training on a non-holographic partner, he also taught her some of the things that he was taught in the Academy, little moves and skills that he has picked up from different crew members over the years.
Most Crucial Experience: Her most crucial experience would be the 2 years she spent training with her father. Unable to communicate with him telepathically, she was forced to speak verbally to him if she wanted to speak with him or question him about what he did aboard his ship. Although she had always protected Sebastian, and her family, it was after learning in-depth what her father did that pushed her into the final decision to join Starfleet.
Role Model: She looks up to her grandmother (Her mother's mom), Yvonne Darda, the most. It was Yvonne's patience and understanding with her and Sebastian that taught her to respect and admire the older woman. She quickly understood, after her younger brother had grown up, that children are not always the easiest to handle.
