A summoning beacon was a device used by the Ankari to summon their "spirits of good fortune", which were nucleogenic lifeforms from another dimension.
In 2371, the USS Equinox witnessed this device in use by way of receiving supplies from the Ankari.
The Equinox crew subsequently purchased their own beacon in order to summon the lifeforms for study.
In 2376, the USS Voyager contacted the Ankari for assistance.
An Ankari used the summoning beacon and acted as an intermediary between Kathryn Janeway and the aliens.
