Subspace fields can be generated by accelerating plasma through the driver coils of an impulse drive; this improves the propulsive effect. They are also generated by accelerating plasma through the warp coils of a starship's warp drive to achieve faster than light velocities.
Subspace fields are measured in Cochranes. A subspace field with a value of 1 Cochrane or higher is known as a warp field.
