Personal History

Steven grew up as an average child in the European area of Earth. Excelling through his schooling the young child was shown to have a great intellect, but attempted to avoid it at all costs. He also showed a hard time making friends, which lead him to further academic studies. During his High School years Steven fully learned of his ability to fix and repair just about any kind of technical problem one could imagine. During graduation McKay applied for Star Fleet Academy, but came to a fork in the road. Did he want to command a starship one day or completely focus on his Engineering abilities? Realizing the officer path played chance with being pulled out of an Engineering background McKay choose the path of an enlisted member of Star Fleet.

During his tenure at the Academy his grades exceeded the expectations of his instructors and led to the questions of why Steven didn't take the officer path. With his academics and engineering studies going great McKay picked up a small Science interest in his last scheduled month of the Academy. Being allowed to take an extra year Steven studied up on basic scientific principles until the year was up. By staying an extra year McKay graduated at a higher rank of Crewman Recruit instead of the usually awarded Recruit rank. It was less than a day when the Crewman received his order for his first off planet assignment, USS Gettsyburg.

Studying up on his new assignment McKay attempted to learn every detail on the Avenger-classed ship. One would say that was all his smug to act like he could do anything and act smarter than anyone else. While it was partly right the Crewman did it to be prepared for whatever he had waiting for him. As much as Steven was ready for starship duty, it didn't last long. After serving onboard the Gettysburg for nine months he was promoted and assigned to the Corp of Engineers.

The primary reason for the transfer was due to Steven's strength in handling new technology. Despite his skill, Steven was disappointed that his first few months of the job were essentially a probationary period. Eventually enough time passed and he was allowed to work on some of the newer developments. Following the destruction of the Third Fleet, and the subsequent introduction of the Krynar to the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, McKay couldn't help but think about getting his hands on some of the Krynar's technology and determining exactly how it worked.

Steven continued his service in the Corp of Engineers, and by 2413 held the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. With the significant numbers of personnel losses across the fleet, Steven was given the opportunity to enter the Officer Candidate's School. Knowing that gaps beginning to open he accepted the opportunity given, but made it his mission to keep from being forced into command. By 2414, Steven had finished his training and was promoted to Ensign. As the personnel losses sunk in, Steven was given his first space assignment in years. He was to report to the USS Okazki as it's Chief Engineer.
