The replacement for Spacedock, Sol Station (also known as Probert Station or Spacedock, formerly known as Starbase Alpha) is a Federation Immense-Class Starbase located in geostationary orbit of Earth.
Sol Station functions as the central hub for both civilian and Star Fleet vessels and personnel entering and leaving Sector 001. Starbase Alpha serves as Headquarters for Starfleet forces in the Alpha Quadrant, Therefore, while a hub of civilian activity, is still operated primarily as a military facility.
History
Following the decommissioning of Earth Spacedock and the destruction of its replacement in the late 24th Century, Sol Station was created as a larger and more capable fleet hub for controlling Federation interests in the Alpha Quadrant; specifically those ships assisting in the evacuation of Romulan space.
In late 2401, Sol Station was the host of Frontier Day celebrations and the decommissioning of the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-F. During a demonstration of Fleet Admiral Shelby's "Fleet Formation", the station found itself the last line of defence when the Borg collective re-emerged, and was heavily damaged by Borg-controlled starships.
By 2402, Sol Station had been fully repaired, and served as home base for the refitted and rechristened USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-G.
Capabilities
Sol Station is much larger than its predecessors, capable of housing multiple large starships in its internal docking slips. It is also remarkably well-armed and defended, given its status as Command-and-Control center for all Starfleet forces in the region; resisting the combined firepower of a force of over three-hundred starships during the Frontier Day Incident of 2401.
