South America is a continent on Earth.

Along with neighboring North America, this is the ancestral home of the Native American Human tribes.

It can also be described as the southern sub-region of a single continent called "America." (See: North America)

South America is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean on the west, and the Atlantic Ocean on the north and east. South America has an area of 17,840,000 square kilometers (6,890,000 sq mi).
Most of South America's population lives near the continent's western or eastern coasts, while the interior and the far south are sparsely populated.

The geography of western South America is dominated by mountains, and the eastern part contains both highland and lowland regions, where large rivers flow.
The continent's culture and ethnicity originated in the long-age interaction of indigenous people with European conquerors and immigrants, as well as with slaves of Africas descent.

Compared to Europe, Asia and Africa, South America has historically been a peaceful continent, with few wars.

This continent is one of the most biodiverse locations on Earth. South America is home to many unique species of animals including the llama, anaconda, piranha, jaguar, and tapir.
The Amazon rainforests possess high biodiversity, containing a major proportion of Earth's species.

Notable Events:

  • In 2153, the Xindi attack on Earth struck this continent with a highly-destructive energy beam from space
    • It killed millions of inhabitants in the country of Venezuela.
