Personal History
Matthew Slone was born in Annapolis, MD on earth, to Marc Slone and Jessica Haley. Both of his parents were never officially married and lived together off and on while Matthew was growing up. Whenever his parents were separated, Matthew would live with his father, who stayed in Annapolis while his mother would drift from place to place during the separations. His father was a former Star Fleet Marine and retired after achieving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and 30 years in the service. His mother was a writer who published holonovels.
While Matthew was 14 he was hoping that he would be the first Slone to attend Star Fleet Academy and become an officer, as all Slones to join Star Fleet before him had been enlisted men. However, his life received a shocker when he received word that a severe console explosion killed his mother while transporting to Star Base Alpha due to a malfunction.
His mother’s death struck Matthew hard but he didn’t give up on his dream of becoming a Star Fleet Officer and graduating from the Academy. That is, until, four years later, right after Matthew’s graduation, when his father died after an electric impulse from a faulty computer panel struck through his father with such force that it caused his heart to beat irregularly. Upon his father’s death, Slone dropped out of the Academy and enlisted in the Star Fleet Marines. Often he was questioned why he didn’t just finish out his years at the Academy and he responds that he never officially started going there and that he feels that without his parents being alive, he wouldn’t be able to make anyone proud by graduating, so what was the use. His life was short and mortal, just like his parents.
