Captain’s Mission Summary Log Stardate 20809.21

Captain Joseph E. Valiant recording:

After an eventual returning trip from Starbase 157, I arrived home at Sierra to find that I had just completely missed a medical conference that had been rerouted to the station because of the recent declaration of war and the attack on starbases 234 and 157. From the reports I’ve received it wasn’t a boring run of the mill conference.

While I along with a task force was busy fending off a Romulan attack in the battle of Starbase 157, on Sierra the guest speakers for the medical conference began to arrive. While they waited for the conference to begin they took the time to inspect the various departments to assure they were battle ready for the war that had just been declared.

Soon after the guest speakers had arrived and while preparations where being made for the conference, a rogue Klingon task force attacked the station. With the station still conducting refits after years of vacancy and repairs caused from the recent ion storm it wasn’t fully prepared to handle a full out assault. Regardless, the station was able to fend off the Klingon attack.

With the Klingon’s fended off, preparations for the conference continued, and the conference soon commenced.

One main feature for this conference was a live action drill to be conducted so it could later be discussed. This project lead by Commander Cothran was then implemented. Little did anyone know, this drill had real effects, and in an attempt to simulate the effects of a biological attack against the station, the entire engineering staff was rendered unconscious by Anesthezine Gas. This sudden, not briefed, event of incapacitating the engineering staff was, in the opinion of the station’s First Officer Commander Tregelen, was uncalled for and inappropriate for the current happenings in the sector and put the station at undue risk. The drill was immediately canceled.

Soon after the drill was cancelled, Commander Cothran informed Commander Tregelen that his quarters had been broken in to. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a PADD of his was stolen. Immediately Lt. Vaughn launched an investigation. A short time later it was discovered that a Ferengi guest had stolen the PADD, and the individual was arrested.

Then, with the drill over, Cothran’s PADD recovered, and the other medical lectures finished, the conference was called to an official end.

Station's Log Stardate 20807.05

First Officer Commander Alexis Tregelen recording:

It has been a rather eventful few days. Captain Valiant was called to Starbase 157 for a conference and to pick up our remaining fighters. We already have 6 A-1's in the hanger which has helped to ease a little of my worry considering a few moments ago the Romulan Star Empire declared war on the Federation.

We received reports that Starbase 234 has been destroyed and that Starbase 157 is under attack. Because of this a medical conference has been rerouted to Sierra and a group of final year medical cadets have been dispatched to help on the front lines.

We have stepped up our active scanning of the sector and have deployed sensor drones around the perimeter to assist us in that task.

First Officer Commander Alexis Tregelen recording:

Not long after the Romulans declared war on the Federation we came under attack from a small fleet of Klingons. I have to say unfortunately we were a little unprepared for the attack. The shields were overwhelmed within moments and damage was taken that now must be repaired.

During the defence a wayward torpedo was launched by the station and it struck the runabout that was carrying the medical cadets on their way here for the conference. Lieutenant Commander Barrett, with the assistance of Lieutenant Commander Melissa Miller and the rest of the fighter squad managed to rescue the cadets from the damaged vessel and escort them safely to the station.

The Klingons left almost as quickly as they appeared, cloaking and heading off in the direction of Earth. I have sent a priority message to Star Fleet to prepare for this although I highly doubt that the Klingons are heading to Earth but I have yet to hear anything back.

It was good to see that although I was knocked out during the attack the crew stepped up and showed the dedication to duty that we have come to expect from them. Lieutenant Commander Archer took command of the station until he himself was incapacitated when Lieutenant Commander Nielson took charge and kept things together until I was able to return to duty.

Because of this and previous conversations with Captain Valiant I have named Lieutenant Commander Nielson as Second Officer. The crew seemed to take this announcement better than previously thought which is a good sign.

We are about to begin a drill devised by Lieutenant Commander Cothran about a biological weapon attack on the station. While I expect the crew to perform well in this drill I don’t entirely trust Mr Cothran. If I were a less scrupulous person I would enter his mind and try to gleam something about this drill but I wont.

First Officer Commander Alexis Tregelen recording:

I have lodged a formal complaint against Lieutenant Commander Cothran for incapacitating the entire engineering staff during the 'drill'. He put the entire station in jeopardy. If he had informed me what he was planning on doing I would have told him so. The drill was cancelled and normal operations resumed.

After a somewhat heated but short discussion between me and Lieutenant Commander Cothran an alarm sounded on his person. His quarters had been broken into and a valuable PADD was stolen.

Immediately Lieutenant Vaughn was called in and a station wide search was conducted. The culprit was eventually caught, a Ferengi that had recently arrived on the station.

Not long after we received a communication from an Acamarian transport that had received damage evacuating the system after it was taken by the Romulans. We brought them into a standard orbit of the station as our docking ports were down due to the Klingon attack and transported them over and the medical teams are taking care of them.

Right now I am awaiting Captain Valiant to return and reassume command of the station. He should be here within the hour.

Captain Joseph E. Valiant Recording:

After the trip home from starbase 157 in which all but a handful of the fighters I was sent to retrieve were destroyed and those that were able to escape have set a course well away from our filed flight plan, I’ve finally arrived back at Sierra Eighteen.

After the events I experienced during the battle at starbase 157 followed by the chase back home, Sierra feels like a safe haven, but still despite my absence I know that crew morale must be low just from the reports that have already flooded in. That’s why, while there is still time, I’ve decided to host a private dinner for the stations senior staff. Its my hope this will help clear everyone’s minds, boost morale, and provide a chance to get to know each other in an occasion outside of the standard duty shift; hopefully all this combined will serve to increase crew performance, and my very own understanding of this crew.
