The Type 9X shuttlecraft is a stealth vessel that features a Federation-built cloaking device similar to those used by Romulan and Klingon ships. The craft can run silently in a planet's atmosphere and is meant to double as a dropship for infiltration into sensitive areas.
Limitations of the Type 9X include the inability to run both the shield generator and the concealment generator at the same time, forcing a choice between the two.
While the Type 9X can serve as a standard shuttle, it can also be quickly converted to dropship status by a change in seating, doubling its passenger capacity.
The first Type 9X shuttlecraft is in operation, the Eidolon, FF-6145/1, assigned to the USS Columbia, a special operations vessel.
