Shuttlecraft - Arkson Type 1

The Arkson Type shuttle is a design created by William Hudson and Terra Arking while they were serving on the USS Nova, BB-106 . It now takes berth as the only shuttle aboard the USS Philadelphia, FF-6053 .

The Arkson Type-1 was christened the Liberty Bell after she was made a permanent shuttle on the Philadelphia.

Liberty Bell Exterior Design

Unlike many Star Fleet shuttles, looking at the Liberty Bell is a very pleasant experience. From the front of the shuttle, the Liberty Bell extends, sloping upwards one deck in an extremely aerodynamic pattern, looking much like a miniature Venture class scout, designed to reduce energy consumption, stress, and increase mobility of the Arkson-1 custom classed shuttle. Integrated warp engines on the side of the shuttlecraft allow extra integration and higher maneuverability and lower energy costs for an extension of a static warp shell around the shuttle design.

At the rear of the shuttle, a small extension platform for shuttle-bay docking with a dual purpose magnetic docking ring attachment allows the Liberty Bell a unique integration for connection and docking with Starships and stations alike.

Liberty Bell Interior Design

The entrance area of the Liberty Bell opens up directly to the large and spacious cargo area. Directly to the left and right (looking towards the cabin) are the main holographic and computer control and engineering, engine, and weapons control respectively. Moving forwards a few steps, one can see and outline of a small and open room with two traditional transporter pads, to increase the range of a standard overhead shuttle transporter system. Across from the transporter room is a small lavatory, molded into the side of the shuttlecraft.

A door separates the cargo space from the cockpit of the shuttle. Through the door is a small area leading up to a cramped and highly technical cockpit. One seat, for a mission commander sits in a typical command position. One more permanent seat sits against the wall, and 3 more retractable seats can be activated from a terminal behind the chair. Next to the retractable seats is a small rations replicator.

At the front of the shuttle is an extremely small cockpit area. Looking towards the viewscreen, the helm is on the right hand side of the room and the Operations, Weapons, and Communication terminal is on the left side of the room. The two panels are separated by a small functional console with ship hot-functions and holographic commands programmed into the small console. On each side of the cockpit are a few extra readout screens with dual functionality. At sub-warp, the screens can be configured for a variety of purposes. At warp speeds, the screens are used for visual communication with the holographic, artificial intelligence.

Holographic Control and Limitations

The Liberty Bell, as a custom shuttlecraft, sports an artificial intelligence computer system.

The holographic intelligence, known as ‘Dave’ has the ability to direct flight patterns, react to situations, fire weapons, engage shields, and provide tactical patterns and recognition programs.

Heavy limitations and restrictions exist on Dave’s integrated program:

1. Upon visitor arrival to shuttlecraft—Dave is required to ask destination, and amount of control
2. Amount of control is specified to Dave before departure of shuttle craft—computer controls are not released to holographic intelligence until destination and amount of control: Computer Functions Only, Computer functions and Defensive systems, Computer Functions and Communication, or Total Control. Individual systems may also be specified to be guided under Dave.
3. Dave’s program is not allowed, unless an override is issued by an accessing member to fly without Star Fleet or authorized personnel.
4. The main holographic control system has a standard force field operational at all times.
5. Holo-emitters are only functional at sub-warp speeds. At warp speeds, Dave will manifest an image from a viewscreen located on the wall of the cockpit.
6. Access and modification to Dave’s program are restricted to the following personnel: William Hudson, Terra Arking, Aloysia Yvette, Brodie Codey.
7. Additional Access to Dave’s program must come from creators William Hudson or Terra Arking.
8. Upon exit of all personnel from Liberty Bell, holoemitters cease to function and Dave can manifest through the computer interface.
