Personal History

Macet Shoggoth was born aboard the Keldon class starship Krakesh to two proud Cardassian parents. He was raised like any other Cardassian child, with a religious love for his people and government. Like his parents, he was a zealous loyalist. Though he was young, when the Cardassians joined the Dominion, he was furious.

Not long after the Cardassians joined the Dominion, his mother was invited to join the Obsidian Order. Despite the distance that this would put between her and her family, she accepted the invitation for the betterment of the Cardassian people. Both Macet and his father were very proud to have her as a member of the prestige order. Nal Shoggoth died fighting the Dominion beside the Tal’Shiar.

Benil didn’t take her death well, and he took Macet and defected to the Federation. They welcomed him with open arms, as he told them everything he knew of the Dominion. When Macet asked his father why they had left to the Federation, his father would always explain that maybe with his knowledge of the Dominion, the Federation could stop them. Unfortunately, they couldn’t.

When the Cardassian Union broke it’s pact with the Dominion, Benil suffered from mixed feelings of both happiness, and despair. He was glad that his people were no longer a tool of the Dominion, but struck with misery that he had taken his son from those people. He regretted leaving so abruptly. If only he had given the Cardassians some more time, then both him and his son could still be there.

Shortly after Macet turned seventeen, his father drank himself to death.

Macet didn’t handle the death of his only parent well. He began to rebel, and seemed to stay in trouble. He ended up in the brig of the Federation starship he was on many times. One day, right after being released from the brig, Macet calmly went to the shuttle bay. Making use of the distraction he had his friends pull on the bridge, he was able to leave with the shuttle and not get noticed on the scanners.

He aimlessly wandered space until he ran out of fuel, where he then stayed for weeks until running out of supplies. A week after his supplies ran dry, a small freighter picked him up. It was a pirate ship. He was offered two choices: join the crew, or stay in the empty shuttle. The choice was easy, and he became a pirate.

He spent years with that pirate crew. In only one year he became the freighter’s pilot. Shortly after that, he was permitted to fly as part of the freighter’s fighter screen. He seemed to be a natural. He quickly gained much respect and infamy as a pirate fighter.

After a few weeks of not landing any decent loot, the pirates came across a Federation supply freighter. Feeling brave (and bored) the pirates decided they’d take that supply freighter. The victory was fast and easy. However, it only took a week before the Federation had already caught up to the pirates. Like any good pirate, they refused to surrender. The freighter didn’t last long against the Federation starship, and Macet was eventually captured (“after claiming four kills” he always insisted).

While in the brig, Macet was given plenty of time to think. He thought about how much his father loved his people. And everything his father had taught him. His father would be ashamed of him if he had been alive to know what he had become. Cardassians aren’t pirates, they’re proud warriors! Upon being released, he began to prove his change of heart to the Federation.

He worked on the vessel as a civilian chef, and spent as much free time as possible in the holodecks continuing to pilot. He couldn’t pull himself away from the excitement, even if it was artificially created in a holodeck, of being a fighter pilot.
