Adam David Shelmer, Jr (Add to his friends) was born on Earth. A Texas boy through and through. Raised on a farm with chickens, goats, pigs and a large garden. He ate well and was often heard saying, “Add a bit more to that plate, Mom.” Thus he nickname. His mother was a child of the earth. Her parents were throw backs to the “Love Child” era and thus her and his brother's middle names. She developed her interest in growing and experimenting with all forms of food plantings.
His father, on the other hand, was a city boy. Didn't care much for country life, but loved his wife enough to try. Howevr, it never really felt at home so he gravitated toward politics and landed a job as the Bajoran Ambassador to Earth's Adjutant.
For Add it was the best of both worlds. He lived in the country with his mother and brother, but got to experience the life of a highly placed official to a well respected Ambassador. He'd spend summers visiting his father in the big city, learning and enjoying that life style and during the school year, he could immerse himself in the quiet country life of his mother's choosing.
As a child he developed a talent for shooting and enjoyed spending an afternoon out in the countryside hunting or fishing. Also, while in the city he picked up the social skills of a well bred aristocratic. In his teen years, he rubbed elbows with a variety of species and began to yearn for a life exploring the far reaches of the galaxy.
He chose Star Fleet and was accepted to the Academy at 17.
