History

The Scott-class has an odd legacy within Star Fleet. Originally conceived during the retooling of the fleet towards a primarily military focus in years just after the First General War, the design was sidelined in favor of more robust designs, and filed away in the labyrinthine archives at Star Fleet Corps of Engineers. Despite its colossal size, it was deemed too delicate, with the four nacelles causing potential imbalances in the warp field, and in general having too few weapons hardpoints than were required for a front-line warship.

Upon the new retooling of the fleet with VAdm Braggins' Fleet Modernization Program of 2417, the Scott-class was brought back out and reconsidered. The vessel was streamlined a bit and given a slipstream drive, while the new Thrawn-class M/AM Warp Core helped to address the imbalance issue seen with the original iteration. It's lack of weapons was considered an asset in its new role as an engineering support vessel, as it freed internal volume for other systems.

The Scott-class is equipped with multiple industrial-grade replicator systems, a large hanger for on-site repairs, and a double-sized complement of work bees. In addition, it has multiple tractor emitters at different angles, allowing it to anchor itself to another ship while working on it, or even tow it to a Starbase facility if the work cannot be completed on-site. Crewed and captained mostly by Engineers, the ship would be considered almost defenseless in a front-line role. However it is a valuable asset to the fleet nonetheless, and will serve the Corps of Engineers well in their mission to support the Fleet, wherever they're called upon to be.
