Personal History

Skiv was born and raised on Tellar Prime where his grandparents had managed to begin working to solve how to liberate the borg. That was over twenty years ago, when he was just a child. His parents had tried to keep Skiv away from their work due to the dangers that came with it, but a young child Skiv was ever curious and always rebelled as to not knowing something that may one day become vital knowledge. The work was lost as his grandparents didn’t write most of it down, however Skiv did manage to overhear some conversations and at the age of 9, dedicated himself to finding a cure for the borg.

That was where his life started, from there he started getting interested in anatomy and disease, and firstly tried to understand why the borg did what they did. This landed him getting interested in science and medicine, much to his parents’ displeasure as they could see where that was going.

At the age of 14, he had read multiple books on different anatomies of different species, and began to wonder how the borg were able to assimilate such a varied amount of races, yet the result always turned out the same. It was the first step in discovering how to free them from the curse they had been forced to live.

At 16, he said to his parents that he was going to attempt to join Starfleet as a Medical officer. They listed all the reasons why Skiv shouldn’t, but he was just as stubborn as his parents and his goal started to come within reach, and he began to work on his medical training prior to the academy training.

For the next four years, Skiv trained as a doctor, starting as soon as he was at the end of his formal education. As a result of the medical training, Skiv didn’t join the Academy until he was twenty years old, and he was the youngest in his group.

It was then that he learned more about his Grandparents work that had been hidden from him by his parents as it was touched on in a lecture at the Academy, which included their findings along with findings from other medical professionals on redeemed and liberated borg. The only issue was its success rate was low, and so Skiv aimed to find a way to improve the success of liberating the borg so that it could become a more viable option, rather than the current option where survival was low. Over the next four years in the Academy, Skiv learned not only about that, but other medical practices and techniques that he could use in his research.

When he finally graduated, Skiv was assigned to the USS Crusher, a hospital ship, as one of the many doctors aboard. Here he saw a wide variety of patients, but by this point the borg had been declared defeated. His own goal was put on the backburner until two years later, when the news of a new borg threat and he spoke to his CO about a transfer as it was something that would help his research that once again came to light, just as he thought he may never make any more progress.

However, the new borg threat was more than he realised. He was transferred to the Copernicus, one of the ships in the task force in the expeditionary operations and boarded the Magellan for the away team that he had volunteered for. It was stuffy, and though he kept an eye on everyone, someone was turned into a borg toward the end of the mission, despite Skiv monitoring the situation constantly. That’s when the mission was a success and they were beamed away. Being on the Magellan and seeing the damage that it had undertaken, the ship had to return and then was being replaced, when Skiv was transferred to the Callisto effective as soon as the immediate borg threat had been dealt with.

His thoughts were that it wasn’t over, and they needed to get as much information on these new borg and what their capabilities were. Because of his knowledge on the borg, he was transferred to Science, using his medical knowledge to justify working as a xenobiologist and botanist.
