Personal History

Taev S'Ten was born in the capital city on Romulus. As the youngest son of a very distinguished family, S'Ten grew up surrounded by Romulus' political and military elite. As a small boy, he loved to listen to his family and their friends debate the relevant political issues of the day.

As a means of attracting attention and gaining approval from his parents, S'Ten immersed himself in Romulan law and civics. At dinner parties, his parents and their guests were impressed at the young boy’s knowledge of law and politics.

S'Ten's father, Maec, an enriov, died in the First General War. This was especially hard on young S'Ten who idolized his father. After his father's death, he became very close to his oldest brother, Tafv. In the absence of Maec, Tafv became S'Ten's mentor and role model. He took young S'Ten under his wing and helped fill the void left by their father.

Crushed by Tafv's death at the battle of Sheridan Nebula during the Second Federation/Romulan War, he fell into a deep depression. During this period, the bond between S'Ten and his mother, Mnheia, strengthened. It was during this period that his middle brother, Terrh, began to question traditional Romulan values and beliefs and started to distance himself from the rest of the family.

While in S'Ten’s first year at the Imperial Military Academy, Terrh dishonored the family by pledging his allegiance to the Democratic Romulan Republic. This caused great embarrassment to S'Ten and his mother and led him to withdraw from most social activities and his friends. During this time, he discovered a passion for medicine and chose to become a doctor and concentrated his studies on becoming a surgeon. In addition to medicine he also excelled in combat and tactical studies. Over time, he came to hate the Democratic Romulan Republic and resent his brother whose shame their family must bear.

Having graduated the Academy, S'Ten eagerly awaited posting on his first ship the RIS Shadowhawk. His excitement however was soon dampened by news that Terrh was recently spotted on Ecurai.

S'Ten's maiden voyage on his new ship turned out to be no ordinary shakedown cruise. An alien entity being discovered onboard was minor to war with the Federation being declared and the Shadowhawk dispatched to participate in the attack on the Federation Starbase 157. As the fleets were engaged in battle, large black holes began to form around the battle area destroying every starship in its path. The Shadowhawk was one of those ships. The battle caused a temporal rift and the crew emerged back in the timeline just before the Shadowhawk was destroyed. Most of the crew including S'Ten experienced a sense of the previous destruction and were able to prevent it from happening again, but it caused the Shadowhawk to withdrawal from the battle rather than be destroyed again.

Before arriving at Hdrael 41, erei'Riov V'Tana promoted S'Ten to Chief Medical Officer. For his actions during the battle, S'Ten was awarded the Imperial Commendation Medal and the Defense of the Empire Medal.

During his second mission aboard the Shadowhawk, S'Ten nearly lost his life. The ship and crew responded to a distress call from Tal'Shiar facility commanded by Colonel Valis in the Sal'rin system. A strange illness had broken out and an Away team was sent from the ship to help the facility find a cure. First Officer Arrain Domaere was infected by the illness and died before a cure could be found. The death and his inability to save Arrain Domaere would haunt him the rest of his life.

S'Ten also became infected by the illness which was discovered to be caused by parasites that had been introduced by a saboteur. Before he fell unconscious, S'Ten and Doctor Areinnye s'Jeiai found a way to destroy the parasites. Doctor s'Jeiai was able to save him in time and they then cured as many of the other infected crewmembers as possible.

For his actions, he was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal. Due to a restructuring of the Fleet's command structure, Medical and Science were combined into one department and he was named Chief of Sciences.
