The newly-discovered Rylan Thunderwolf is found in the wild only in the forest regions of the planet Ryla. They are noted for being short-tempered and viscous when threatened or attacked, but the single domesticated case has proven a loyal companion and protector.
Physiology
Rylan Thunderwolves grow to 72” long, and 40” tall at largest, and a fully-grown Thunderwolf can weigh upwards of 100lbs. Thunderwolves are universally red- or yellow-eyed, and their colouring ranges from shades of white or grey to brown and black. Female Thunderwolves can be identified by extra fur/quills growing from the cheeks. A Thunderwolf's body can generate and store a static charge much like that of the Terran Electric Eel, and this charge can be delivered through the quills on the Thunderwolf's body or through its canines.
It is believed that Thunderwolves have about the same intelligence as Terran wolves.
Behaviour
Very few Rylan Thunderwolves have been studied in the wild, but observers believe Thunderwolves follow a matriachal society, where the Alpha Female is the pack leader and is attended to by subordinate males. Thunderwolves communicate over long distances through auditory and olfactory means, while close-proximity communication is achieved through body language. The single domesticated example of the species has proven to be remarkably sensitive to the emotions of those around it, though whether this suggests partial empathy has yet to be proven.
