Many different religions can be found within the borders of the Romulan Star Empire. Most common is worship of the four Elements, or Ajoi: Air (Jaeih), Earth (Avilh), Fire (Okhala) and Water (Ihhuein). The Elements are believed to have protective powers, and many Romulans will pray to them for help or guidance and thank them for their good fortune.

Fate, or Cradol, also plays an important role in Romulan religion. Many Romulans are fatalists and believe that the path of their lives is already laid out for them and that they have a destiny to fulfill. This belief often is related to the concept of mnhei'sahe.

Other Romulans worship the Great Brothers, or D'ravsai, an ancient species believed to have seeded many forms of intelligent life throughout the galaxy. The D'ravsai are considered gods by their followers.

A few Romulans follow the teachings of the Vulcan philosopher Surak, who brought logic to his people. Those who take this path must do so at their own risk, as Surak's teachings are outlawed by the government. It was the rejection of these teachings that led the ancestors of the Rihannsu to leave Vulcan, and to study them is considered an affront to Romulan culture and ideology.

Other minor religious beliefs also exist, and many modern Romulans reject religion altogether, favoring science over mysticism and mythology. Atheism is not uncommon, especially among the elite.
