Personal History

Kevin was born in Cambridge, England. The second of three children to Angela and Charlie Rolands. He has a brother John, who is six years older and a CID officer, his sister Bernadette (Berni), who is three years younger is a computer programmer. His parents met whilst Charlie was a Police cadet and Angela a student in Forensic Science.

From a young age Kevin had shown signs of being intrigued with Law Enforcement, doubly so because of his fathers involvement in the local police force. At the age of 18 he applied and was accepted into the British National Police Academy and commenced training much to his father and brother’s approval.

Tragically when Kevin was 20, his father was killed during a confrontation at a reported burglary in Huntingdon. His mother Angela, did not recover from her loss and retired early from her career as a Forensic Investigator. His fathers death had an effect on him, causing Kevin to resign from the Police and decide on a career in Starfleet Security.

Signing up and being accepted into Starfleet Academy he soon excelled in admin and security procedures before taking up computer security and specializing in anti-hacking techniques. Because of his calm manor and attitude, Kevin was also assigned to a Hostage Negotiation team for a short while during his pre-graduation exercise.

As a Midshipman, Kevin served aboard the Scout USS DeLeon (SC-8004) along the Romulan/Federation border. After his promotion to Ensign, Kevin became engaged to a Science officer named Ensign Tamara Armstrong. However, their plans were short lived after she was killed in a shuttle accident near the Cardassian border.

Because of this event he tends to be something of a loner. Once he knows someone though he is a loyal and helpful friend. He was assigned to the Scout USS Yeager (SC-8018) after he was promoted to Lieutenant (JG) and served with distinction until the crew were all transferred to Space Station Sierra-18, where he continued as Assistant Chief of Security (ACOS).

When war broke out between the Federation and Romulan Empire, he asked for and was accepted to transfer to a front line vessel. He left SS18 along with its current COS at the time Lieutenant Jennifer Matthews for active service. Kevin was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the frigate, USS Vancouver and served during the battle for SB-157.

At the end of the conflict, Kevin was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and assigned light duties at Starfleet HQ due to the injuries suffered. Rather than stay at a desk job, Kevin asked for a return to active service and was granted this after being assigned as COS on the Dauntless.
