Personal History

Ried was born to his mother Brenda and an unknown father. Duane Ried was always his father to him, and even upon being informed that he was not his biological father, David showed no interest in discovering the identity of his biological father.

When Ried was in elementary school his father was killed during the Romulan war while taking his older brother on a tour of the starship, in which he was Chief Engineer. For a few years after that Ried was sent to live with relatives on the remote colony of Brexam IV. While living there the Armageddon Directive was initiated by Jonathan Beckett after the Borg attacked the Sol system. Brexam IV saw very little action from the Borg, but Ried remembers watching holos every night on the latest catastrophe caused by the Borg and fearing for the safety of his Mother and Brother.

Following the war with the Borg Ried relocated to Earth to be with his mother and finish his high school education that was interrupted by the Borg war. It was while finishing his studies that he, and his Mother, received the news that while on route to his new assignment as Chief Engineer of the Copernicus his older brother Lieutenant Commander Scotty Ried had contracted an unknown and unidentifiable illness that would have killed his brother had he not been placed into stasis on Starbase Alpha and sent to a cryogenics facility on earth, awaiting the day that his disease could be cured. Upon hearing this news David Ried instantly changed desired career paths; he vowed he would become the best doctor in the entire Federation and bring his brother back to him.
