Remans are the humanoid inhabitants of Remus, the third planet of the Eisn system. They are a labor caste of the Romulan Star Empire, often working in the extremely hazardous dilithium mines of their world or serving in the Reman Imperial Division of the Romulan military.

As Remus is a tidally locked planet, the Remans live on its dark side, and thus are extremely sensitive to light. Some Remans posses telepathic abilities similar to those shown by Vulcans and Betazoids.

History

When Romulans first arrived in the Eisn system in 533 AD, they made contact with the Reman people before settling on the more hospitable second planet, Romulus. They named the Reman people Havrannsu and called the planet Remus ch'Havran. Contact was limited in the early years as the Romulan people worked to establish themselves on their new homeworld.

Romulans began to settle on Remus in 1062 AD, establishing mining settlements and building cities in the planet's eternal twilight zone. At first, they lived peacefully with the Remans, but they quickly came to regard them as warlike and barbaric. After several uprisings and the additional fear of the Reman's telepathic abilities, Romulan law was militarily imposed, and Reman society was reorganized to serve the Empire.

Among the Romulan people, Remans have historically been known as great warriors. As such, Romulan senators often have Reman bodyguards in their employ to intimidate possible opponents.

Remans were used by the Romulan Empire as "cannon fodder" during the Dominion War and were often deployed in the fiercest engagements.

For their service to the Empire, Reman soldiers enjoy more liberty and freedom than do civilians. The Reman Imperial Division is a respected part of the Romulan military, though its members remain highly segregated from their Romulan counterparts.
