Personal History

Gilora grew up on Klaestron IV, Klaestron IV is one of the more independent worlds of the Federation. Similar historically to the province of Quebec in the ancient Earth nation-state of Canada, its separatist-minded policies have led to several conflicts with the rest of the United Federation. Prior the ratification of the 2367 Cardassian peace treaty, Klaestron IV had formed an alliance with the Cardassian Union, even though that political entity was involved in a drawn-out, bitter conflict with the Federation. Internal conflicts resulted in a civil war on Klaestron IV around 2339. General Ardelon Tandro, statesman and soldier murdered during the civil war, became the national martyr of the Klaestron people. Under the alliance with the Cardassian Union some thirty years earlier a large group of Cardassians came to live and work on Klaestron IV and never left, they considered it home. Gilora’s grandparents were some of the original Cardassian immigrants to Klaestron IV but they never forgot their Cardassian roots. They taught their children who taught their children about the past glory of the First Hebitian civilization, the Hebitian civilization was an ancient civilization on Cardassia Prime. Their burial vaults were said to be magnificent, and contained many artifacts made of jevonite, a rare and breathtaking stone.

In the 22nd century, when the burial vaults were first unearthed, they were plundered by impoverished Cardassians, and most of the artifacts were stolen. Some were preserved in museums, but these were ultimately sold to pay for Cardassian war efforts. Gilora loved to hear her grandmother tell her stories of the Hebitian’s. How they were gifted Artists and Scientists. Gilora wants to see a time when the Cardassians can reclaim that ancient birthright of the Hebitian’s and feels that through Science she can help achieve that.

However, living on Klaestron was different, the Cardassians live in a special area of the planet in their own self-governing area where they live by Cardassian laws and customs for the most part. As they are Federation citizens, they enjoy a unique blend of Cardassian and Federation living standards.

Klaestron natives are noted for the heightened ridge encircling the rear of their heads from ear to ear. Doctors from Klaestron IV recently developed new technology for the treatment of severe burns. That’s what inspired Gilora’s love of science. Like most Cardassian women, she excelled at the Sciences. As a young girl, Gilora won all the School Science Fairs and Symposiums. Gilora is as bright as she is beautiful. Growing up she didn’t want to know that the sun was hot, she wanted to know what made it hot. Gilora wanted to know the reason why things fell back to earth when you threw them. She was always asking her mother what is gravity, what it a magma flow. What are the invisible things in nature that make the world work. Gilora loved tricorder and other scientific scanning devices. She loved visiting the local museums and watching the older woman debate about tetryon, particles and plasma decay rates. Science has been Gilora’s entire life, if there is a secret to something Gilora will find it.

Her father like true Cardassian males treated his daughters like princesses, seeing to it that they received, the best education money could buy. Tutors and private lesson after them public school education was normal for Gilora and her brother and sister. The Cardassian educational system is considered unparalleled in the Alpha Quadrant, and educational attainment is regarded as a key asset in Cardassian society. Cardassian children are often put into intensive mind training programs from as early as three or four. It is because of these mind-training programs that some Cardassians are able to resist a Vulcan mind meld. Cardassians are also trained during this time to have photographic memories. A typical view of how children should be raised is summed up in an old Cardassian statement "Education is power... joy is vulnerability." Therefore, when the opportunity for Gilora to enter Star Fleet Academy her parents knew that for Cardassia to become free and democratic they would need leaders trained and educated outside of the Cardassian Dominion.

On Star date 21207.4 Gilora had been sentenced to a six-month incarceration in the Stockade on Jaros II and a reduction in rank for assaulting a Senior Officer. In Gilora’s defense, the Senior Officer was a Commander who was teaching an advanced course on Combat Engineering & Readiness Drills aboard Star Base 375. Gilora found the man to be brilliant, truly a wonderful engineer. The two of them became fast friend over the course of the next several weeks. He found Gilora attractive, exotic and alluring. One day after class, the Commander had asked Gilora to stay, as he wanted to review some of the course material with her. Gilora went and got a bite to eat and came back to the classroom. She was a good student and wanted to get feedback from her superior in order to be a better engineer. She came back to the class room and she was surprised to see that there was no one in there. Gilora entered the room and took a seat in the first row waiting for the Commander to return. Suddenly, she felt someone hands on her shoulder and a voice whispered in her ear, “If you want to get along, you have to go along.” The hands were cold and clammy. Gilora felt the hands follow her neckline, tracing her neck ridges. The Commanders hands came down off the shoulder and found her breast. He placed his hands in her top. He was touching her and saying. “I found you attractive since the first day I met you.” Just when she didn't think things could get any worse he grabbed her and pulled her out of the seat. He took her in his arms and kissed her several times. Gilora tried to push him away, but she was too firmly in his grasp. The next thing she remembered was he tried to get her on the floor. The Commander tried to sexually assault her, but Gilora did not give in or give up, it just was not in her nature. “Please, don’t do this. We are both Star Fleet Officers.” The Commander wouldn't listen. Gilora attempted to scream for help, but he kept his hand over her mouth. Gilora was becoming frantic; she didn't know what to do. Then her more basic instincts took over. She drove her knee into the man’s groin several times. In his fury he slapped Gilora's face so hard that it almost shattered her eye socket, but the fool didn't realize that he had hit her with a signet ring on his hand that left a distinctive mark on her face.

During the preliminary trial, Gilora and her attorney were confidant that with all the evidence presented to the Judge, the Commander would have been at least court-martialed for Conduct Unbecoming an Officer, Assault and Harassment. However, fate dealt Gilora a losing hand. The evidence was rejected as insufficient. Instead, she was found guilty of Assaulting a Superior Officer and attempting a Defamation of character. She couldn't believe it when they said that she was sentenced to 24 months in the stockade and a reduction in rank. Later on, Gilora found out that the Commander was the son of a high ranking and very influential Federation Council Member who had most likely pulled some strings within Star Fleet and got his ill-begotten son acquitted and reassigned to the diplomatic core in the Federation Embassy on Lankor III.
