Personal History

He was born October 17th,2389 when the First General War was at its beginings, His father had been deployed to Headquarters, His mother was a Military cook for the brass, He was not a problematic birth, unlike his previous brother or his sister who had been really difficult births.

He was given the first name of John after his great grandfather John Harrison who was a Miner of asteroids, He got the middle name of Emmerson after his fathers favorite poet. From a young age John was deemed as special, he learned to read at a young age, and he loved the printed word. He also had an active imagination, so his family would have to contend with him taking a box and pretending to be in a Jules Verne novel or marching off with the characters from The Man Who Would Be King.

At the age of seven he suffered a loss that doesn't haunt him because he feels he was too young for it to matter, He had his younger brother Patrick die of large diffused lymphoma. It disturbs him that he felt so little emotion about his brother. He feels it makes him think he is selfish at times to this day. Little did he know how it would change his future. At the age of thirteen he contracted the same diagnosis. That made him feel terrified and it made his family uncomfortable as well. His mother took a LOA from Fleet to take care of him. He beat the odds after a year struggle. Its something he doesn't talk about unless he is very drunk or meets somebody having a simmular struggle.To celebrate he went on a field trip to go to the Planetoid of Pluto. It was his first real time off world and it made quite the impression on him.

He was encouraged to pursue areas of study that he excelled at rather then physical ones, His father, Royal would quote the Romans, "I study war and tactics so my children may study art and philosphy." A young John would study sciences and math. In his middle school years he joined the geology club and was a Mathalete.

John also collected Marauder Moe figures, He loved reading Klingon literature when he could find it. By the time he was in high school he was ready willing and able to live in the galactic community at large. He spent his junior year in high school as an exchange student to Betazed. That had a profound effect on his life. He got to drink up what it was like to live in an alien culture, not just read about it. He also had a rock climbing accident that caused him to loose a majority of his teeth, it was a painful reminder about following protocol and safety instructions. It left a one inch scar on his chin, he opted to keep it as a reminder of what being stupid can cost you.

In 2409 He decided to try to apply for Starfleet Academy If he had been sucessful then he would be the first person in his family to be an officer. He passed every part of the entrence exam with flying colors, not only that when it came to the mock scenario that fleet made every prospective cadet do, he handled it with diplomacy and grace. He stopped a klingon from being bezerk at two other non violent cadets. That cemented his viableness as a Starfleet Cadet and he was allowed into the illustrious program.

He wanted to be a science officer so badly but try as he would he just couldn't get by the guilt he felt over his kid brother and himself, one dead and the other alive. He wanted to study genomes more then geology and went into the medical corps training. It is a thing that he sometimes feels bad about at times. But then he finds out how woefully understaffed most ships are on qualified medical personel. He also accepts its the only branch of the service he can get away with his brand of pacifism.

Short-Term Goals: Keeping Harvard happy and well adjusted, Visiting Risa to see the resort he based his program off of, Not disappointing his parents with his life choices and maybe finding a candidate for spousehood.
Long-Term Goals: Getting Posted to Risa, starting a family, avoiding death at the hands/disruptor/teeth/claws of a mugato/Jem Hadar/Cardassian/Romulan/Upset Alien of the week.
Personality: He seems to be introverted most of the time, He seems to be the guy who seems to know all sorts of useless and random triva, combined with a rather blue sense of humor he can come across as rather working class at times. Or as he says "Derivative, Pedantic and his smug aura is found to be mocking."
Sense of Humor: Rather dirty sense of humor. Sometimes its close to being inappropriate.
Phobias: He has a strong dislike of dogs,wolves and cainines in general, he had an uncle who had a basset hound who nipped at him.
Likes: Holoprograms, Mexican Food, fine wine and loves the Three Stooges.

Pet Peeves or Gripes: Not being listened to/validated, Overly violent individuals and folks who lack a sense of humor.
Bad Habits or Vices: Has been known to take stimulants such as coffee, energy drinks and sometimes the low grade no sleeping pills and overwork, this manifests itself in chronic insomnia, Tries hard to hide the fact he is a letch, enjoys wine and likes to role play in the holodeck or with friends in a tabletop setting to the point where sometimes its like he wants to be another person.
Achievements: He is a geologist as well as a doctor, the first person in his family to become an officer, He is Royal's pride and joy. He has a basic knowldge of security procedures and once helped his father figure out who was sneaking into a breakroom for midnight manuevers.
Disappointments: Wishes he had gone into Science as a full blown geologist.
Illnesses: When he was ten he suffered from Tamarian Pox, he was treated for it, when he was thirteen he came down with a case of lymphoma but was treated for it and has been genetically eliminated from his system.
Strengths: Strong willed, Great Sense of humor, Dedicated to the preservation of life. Loves unconditionally.
Weaknesses: Is shy around women he likes, Can be rather blunt at times, is a pacifist but will attack if fired upon, enjoys spicy things but his stomach says no.
Fears: Death, dislikes the sight of his own blood, Letting his ego get the better of him.
Prejudices: Anticans, Overly macho individuals, and bullies .
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: He tends to dress in what the situation calls for, but his go to outfit is a Red Sox shirt and jeans
Distinguishing Features: Has lacks any tattoos, he has a single scar on his chin one inch in length, The teeth he posses are implanted false teeth.
Pets: A rather feisty grey tabby he calls "Harvard" because of the fact he litterally found her as a kitten on Harvard Street. Harvard if permitted is on the post with him.
Friends: A rather shady fellow by th ename of Russ Heston, he was kicked out of Starfleet for attitude issues who now works as a half decent entertainer in Holovids.

Most Painful Experience: Losing his kid brother when he was seven.
Best Time: When he earned his officer commission. He is the first person in his family to be an officer.
Most Crucial Experience: When he went through cancer, It was the same thing that killed his brother.
