Personal History

Started as a Pediatrician as a young medical school graduate, Quinn had been doing a rotation in a rural region on the planet Acamar when the Romulans invaded. He lived under the Romulan occupation, allowed to practice medicine because he was a non-combatant. A first hand witness to the Romulan Star Empire's brutality, his outlook on the universe became jaded and pessimistic, although he continued to help out where he could. Going far beyond his usual scope of pediatrics, due to the lack of civilian physicians, Quinn rapidly became known by the Acamarians for his generosity and willingness to travel far distances to treat the sick and injured. Eventually finding himself in the capital, where he could help the most people in need, Quinn found himself almost simultaneously approached by elements of the Tal Shiar and the Acamarian underground. Both offered thinly veiled threats of violence and exposure of alleged sympathizing with the other, although neither had proof, Art worked for both; initially. In his mind, getting either side to trust him more meant he could get more access to those who simply needed help. He wanted nothing to do with the violence of war and the brutality of the occupation. He received more than his fair share of general practice, surgical, and trauma experience, making one benefit of the war being his vastly increased medical knowledge and competence.

A skilled and cunning Star Fleet Intelligence Operative soon ferreted him out for what he was, a self-employed double-agent, and offered Art a deal. Call it patriotism, or simply the desire to feel connected to the Federation again, Art agreed to confirm his loyalties to Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets and began to feed information and perform seemingly innocuous tasks at the bidding of his controller. Events eventually snowballed, both in tensions between armed resistance fighters, and the level of commitment his handler asked him to make by asking him to do more and take more risks. The armistice could not have come soon enough for Art, he was sick of war, and had become rather addicted to the power of good he wielded as a healer. But Star Fleet was not done with him.

Recruited for his skills, Art reluctantly answered the heavy handed call and joined Star Fleet, directly commissioned at the rank of Lieutenant after the accelerated Academy training he received. With the war over, the threats to the Federation were ever increasing, Quinn was assigned to the second fleet, aboard the USS Whittle. He quickly rose to Assistant Chief Medical Officer, seeing action in the first mission assigned to Battle Group Omega-2. As a reward from his Commanding Officer, and seeing it as a way for Quinn to possibly advance in his career, he was transferred as Assistant CMO to the USS Ticonderoga at the conclusion of their first mission with the group.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Pediatrics
Academy Minor(s): Trauma Surgery
Hobbies and Pastimes: Playing the violin
Short-Term Goals: Prove himself to the Sickbay staff and crew of the Ticonderoga
Long-Term Goals: Some day run his own Sickbay on a large exploration vessel or star base. Retire from Star Fleet and open his own practice somewhere ‘out of the way’.
Personality: Art is very severe, and brutally honest. He has no real ambition compared to some others in the other disciplines in the fleet.
Sense of Humor: Dark humor, and very rare.
Phobias: Fire
Likes: Listening to and playing classical music.
Dislikes: People who are loud.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: Making his disdain or disgust for people clear by the look on his face
Bad Habits or Vices: Instantly critical and judgmental
Achievements: Becoming incredibly skilled at even the nastiest of surgeries due to extensive practice, and lots of tragic trial and error
Disappointments: Not being able to set up his own pediatrics practice somewhere ‘out of the way’.
Illnesses: A persistent and violent strain related to terran pertussis. It took him 18 months to finally kick due to lack of proper medical equipment.
Strengths: Incredibly resilient to adversity. His time as a refugee medic is a constant reminder to Art of how much worse things can get.
Weaknesses: Trusting people. Art doesn’t allow people to get close.
Fears: Being forced to practice medicine under the conditions he was forced to on Acamar.
Prejudices: Ignorant people
Distinguishing Features: Streak-like protrusions on the side his head above their ears. His outer ears consists only of a hole in his head.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Knowing how easily he could treat or prevent the suffering of his patients on Acamar, but not having access to the necessary tools and supplies to be able to.
Best Time: Pre-war Acamar, where he worked with rural children and learned about their culture.
Most Crucial Experience: His time as a refugee medic on Acamar during the Romulan occupation
Role Model: An adolescent Acamarian refugee girl named Ta’mara. She helped take care of her three younger siblings after both parents had been taken away by the Remans. She later died of her wounds protecting herself and sisters from thugs attempting to commit unspeakable acts against them. Art admires her courage and persevering spirit.
