Pulsar Class Battleship
The Pulsar-class Battleship is a Star Fleet starship class, of battleship type.
History
The presence of Jem'Hadar battleships in the First General War proved to be a major problem for the Alliance Forces. The aging Defiant Class warships failed to do any serious damage to them, and it was evident that Star Fleet would need a new purposely-built warship to combat such heavily armored vessels. When hostilities ceased and the fleet was reorganized, plans for a new type of battleship were put in place. Unlike the Defiant Class, which was deceptively small, the new vessel would be much larger and armed to the teeth – ready to combat even the largest of enemy ships on equal terms.
Ten years after the war ended, the USS Pulsar, BB-100 was commissioned. With eight torpedo launchers and six phaser arrays, and the ability to carry twenty-five fighters, the Pulsar was an effective go-between between the heavy cruiser and carrier classes. Unfortunately, this power attracted the attention of the Changeling Kwalin, who hijacked the Pulsar. Fortunately, the ship was recovered, despite heavy odds working against the retrieval crews, and returned to serving Star Fleet. Since then, another nine battleships have been built, and were often seen leading battle groups on exercises and wargames throughout Federation space.
In 2418, the decision was made to mothball the Battleship fleet in order to concentrate on ships of exploration.
