Personal History

Michelle was born and raised in the small city of Raleigh, North Carolina. For most growing girls, the preference of parent is simple- the mother- however for young Michelle; it was undoubtedly her father. At age 17, her father was accepted into the Academy and within a short five years was a freshly graduated Engineering Cadet headed out on his first mission on the USS- Ortega. He met his wife- Margaret- in a short bump in the cafeteria; incidentally spilling all of his morning coffee over her uniform. Margaret- a nurse at the time- simply laughed and tried to sooth the blushing Engineering Cadet from overzealously apologizing. After that, they held a pretty steady relationship even after the USS- Ortega was decommission and returned to Earth.

When Michelle turned seven years old, her little brother was on the way (Tommy), which brought a whole new level of complication into the house. Both Margaret and Thomas were working parents, leaving the burden of household responsibilities to supposedly the oldest sibling- Aeden. However, being a 14 years old boy, Aeden rarely paid attention to a crying infant in need. Inevitably, such responsibilities were entrusted to Michelle, who never seemed to say no to the extra work. In fact she found solace in aiding people in need, kindling her future intrigue in the medical field.

When Michelle was just about 16 years old, her brothers and her were visiting their grandparents’ house in celebration of the holidays. Glistening Christmas lights dazzled the front bushes of their house, and freshly fallen snow sparkled with the suns reflection. Once it started to get dark, Grandma Price pulled out the baking supplies and everyone worked in team effort to make a delicious homemade batch of warm chocolate chip cookies. Aeden, Michelle, and Tommy ate and enjoyed by the small fire place; savoring every bite and cherishing the seemingly perfect moment. After telling stories and finishing the last of the cookies, tired eyes fell upon the house. Everyone shuffled to bed, sinking into warm pajamas and soft covers.

Michelle woke to a loud crackling sound that seemed to grow as she gained consciousness. She fumbled out of bed and made her way to the door, where an orange glow was peeking through the bottom crack of the threshold. She reached for the handle but it sizzled when she touched it, causing her palm to blister and sting. Her brothers were still asleep, lying soundly on the make-shift cots in the room. She immediately pounced on them and started to yell at them to wake up immediately. In an instant, what once was a silent night became a night of terror.

They were trapped; the door burning hot and the room was steadily filling with black smoke. Aeden was shocked and barely moved, Tommy was crying, and Michelle was clutching her burned hand. They were on the second floor of the house-and considering the door was blazing hot- they turned their attention to the window. Michelle urged Aeden to open it, and as he did they could hear the screams of terror from their latently awoken Grandparents. Tears filled up their eyes and they screamed, “GRAMMA! GRAMPS!” Though it was an impossible task to save them now; the house was creaking with instability. The three kids jumped from the window, landing in a small clump of snow covered bushes that cushioned their fall. With exception to some scrapes and mild burns- they made it out physically unscathed. However, they watched in horror as the house burned down; scarring their minds and crushing their hearts. By the time emergency responders entered the scene, there was no doubt that the fire had consumed the house and their Grandparents. The fire was easily stopped by the responders who then transported the children to their parent’s residence. Flashes of fire and screaming echoed in their subconscious incinerating the last of their “holiday cheer”.

Flash forward ten years, and Michelle decidedly worked to achieve admittance to the Academy. Though space expedition excited her, it also haunted her, she would be confined on a vessel that was enclosed by the vacuum of space. Joanna (Jo) Harvelle was her roommate, a socially inclined and extremely active young woman. At first Price hated her, thinking she was too involved and not focused on working. However as time went on, they became almost inseparable. The years flew by until Michelle found herself as a Medical Cadet who was ready for action the near future would soon bring.

Personality: Michelle Price is contrary to the “average woman”, she will most likely turn down a night of relaxation or partying to logging hours in the lab. She is intrigued of extraterrestrial life and sometimes finds microbes more interesting than human beings. Regardless, she can be described as a “social introvert” in the sense that, only when acquainted with the right colleagues, is inclined to socially interact.
Sense of Humor: While in the lab, she tends to focus more than fool around. However when out of the work place, she loosens up considerably and is more the instigator of the joke rather than the receiver.
Phobias: Pyrophobia, Claustrophobia
Likes: Outside of her duties, ‘introvert’ Price likes quiet time, a bit of self-reflection if you will. She loves a great cup of coffee and doesn’t shy on divulging her slight addiction to sweets.
Dislikes: Price doesn’t have anything in particularly in distaste; however when something bothers her she generally announces her discomfort. Small spaces, fire.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: She LOATHES when others tend to walk slowly in corridors. Price is always on her feet, and consequently when others leisurely stroll through a main artery equivalent of a hallway, she practically radiates annoyance.

She also has a nervous twitch of constantly pushing her hair behind her ear, which tends to act up when in awkward social interactions. When around others with a prominent accent, she tends to “accent sponge”.
Achievements: Graduated within the top 5% of her high school class, Awarded national honor for her contributions to Medical Sciences by helping create trauma-kits to ship off to places in need.
Disappointments: Failing to watch/protect her little brother.

Weaknesses: Price is not the most social person ever, and beyond her confident nature in the workplace, tends to be very demure.
Fears: Ironically, she is afraid of being alone, though she rather enjoys her time to herself in the workplace; she fears the idea of desertion, especially in the case of a ‘life or death’ situation. She is also afraid of failing. She understands the severity and necessity of her job and is terrified that if she fails, the lives of another would be lost on her account.
Prejudices: While she is a rather accepting and liberal minded individual, she tends to doubt male ability when it comes to lab work. She rather likes to think herself superior to her male colleagues and often gets into debates.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Tasteful and comfortable. She is seen mainly with long sleeves and sweaters, and sticks to jeans rather than dresses.
Distinguishing Features: None
Pets: None
Friends: Joanna (Jo) Harvelle

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: The horrific experience of witnessing her Grandparents Home burn down.
Best Time: Graduating grade-school/ gaining acceptance into the Academy.
Most Crucial Experience: Surviving a house fire.
Role Model: Her Father- Thomas Price.
