Personal History

Polvin grew up in a small town on earth with his parents who owned and operated a small bakery near the outskirts of town. Since his mother was Vulcan, Gabriel would spend every summer on the Vulcan homeworld with his Grandparents so he would have a chance to learn of his Vulcan heritage.

Polvin was 23 when he gradated from Star Fleet as a medical officer. He was a medic on the USS Dauntless under the command of then Commodore Thrawn for a while before becoming the ships Chief Medical Officer. It was during this time that he met and had relations with a female tactical officer, K’Etana, and as well as earning the respect and friendship of a fellow medic, Mike Wong.

Though Polvin enjoyed what he did on the ship and enjoyed the people he was with, due to his mixed-specie genes, his emotions were starting to become erratic. Taking a medical leave from Star Fleet, Polvin returned to the Vulcan planet to take time to mediate for an extended amount of time away from everything, allowing him to gain better control over his emotions.

Returning to active duty never felt the same for him. It had been so long since he last saw his friends of whom he didn’t give much notice that he was leaving. Though his emotions were now in check, he couldn’t help but feel out of place aboard a starship now. Ultimately making the decision, Polvin came to the conclusion that being among the stars was no longer his calling.

Coming to a realization, he came to believe that though he had thought he had fixed his emotional problems, he failed to fully rid himself of all of his inner issues. Taking a more permanent leave from Star Fleet, Polvin left his old life behind and returned once again to Vulcan, taking up residence in his grandparent’s old home.

Since he was a man of two species, Polvin worked hard to gain a better understanding of why there was such a conflict happening in his mind. Spend part of his days in meditation and the other part performing mundane tasks to help those around him as a sign of respect to the members of the small community.

He stayed there on Vulcan for several years, slowly becoming more and more comfortable with his conflicting emotions, finally having them under better control than the last time he had tried to gain control over them. It was around this time that he began to miss his time working with his hands in Sickbay.

Since he no longer desired to work aboard one of the many Star Fleet vessels, Polvin sent a message to the head of the Star Fleet Academy, asking to come back but as an instructor so he would be able to put all of his medical skills and experiences to too use. Though it took a long time and several messages back and forth, Polvin was finally granted permission to return to Star Fleet but would have to take a rank cut. After hearing the news, Polvin gathered what little he had there on Vulcan and boarded the next ship back to earth.
