The Alpha Quadrant Expedition, or Pioneer Expedition was launched in July 2418, under the overall command of Rear Admiral Kinziri Jal until 2420, when Jal was promoted and command temporarily fell to Captain Mackenzie Annan. The expedition was based at Pioneer Outpost, a Sierra-class Outpost located in interstellar space near the Dozaria system.
