Phylos
Phylos is an inhabited, Class M planet located in the Alpha Quadrant.
The second of four planets orbiting the star Phylos, it is known to the native population by the name "Merari."
It is the homeworld to the Phylosians, a non-humanoid, warp-capable species.
A unique planet, it has developed several species of mobile intelligent plant life. One of these species, known as the Phylosians, have evolved into a technologically advanced, interstellar civilization.
Originally, the Phylosians had set about enforcing peace in the Milky Way Galaxy, and built an armada of ships to do so, but a Human scientist accidently intervened.
Human Doctor Keniclius traveled to this planet during the Eugenics Wars, unfortunately bringing a strain of bacteria foreign to the ecosystem of the planet. The resulting plague decimated the Phylosian race, destroying the spore cells of the survivors, leaving them unable to reproduce. Keniclius cloned himself on the planet in order to keep the Phylosians alive, and continue his work.
In 2269, Phylos was finally discovered by the Federation. The USS Enterprise was tasked with surveying the planet, and were surprised to find a clone of Keniclius planet-side.
Though he went against the consent of science officer Spock and cloned him, the Human and the Vulcan clones stayed on the planet to help the Phylosian race fight extinction.
