Phage
Short for "bacteriophage", the term "phage" literally means "to eat."
The Phage was a disease that infected the Vidiian species for at least two thousand years.
It consumed their bodies by destroying their genetic codes, devouring their tissues, and damaging their cellular structure.
An early symptom was joint pain that steadily grew until it was felt all over the body. Some victims died from the agony itself, and euthanasia was common.
The disease was highly adaptive to medical treatment, and so even treating the painful symptoms was a challenge.
As way of medical treatment, the Vidiians resorted to stealing the organs of other species to prolong their lives.
Some research into a cure theorized that Klingon genetic material could lead to a cure.
The disease was allegedly cured by a group known as the "Think Tank" in 2375.
