Pegasus Mission 02: "Sunrise Over Carraya"

Mission Summary

Thee USS Pegasus along with the USS Nova, USS Sheridan, USS Philadelphia, and USS Ticonderoga, were ordered to undock from Star Base Delta and rendezvous at the Carrayan System which had sent out a distress call.

While en route to Carraya the Commanding Officer's from each ship met via a holo-conference and were able to analyze the distress call and were able to determine that Carraya was under attack from a hostile force. Carraya, which has a history of conflict with oppressing forces, most recently had freed itself from Klingon control. Although not confirmed the group of ships began working on the assumption that the Klingons were once again attempting to gain control of the Carrayan World.

The journey to Carraya was spent running drills and preparing for a multitude of scenarios including space battle, ground battle, and a variety of humanitarian and aide giving scenarios. Whatever the USS Pegasus was faced with they wanted to be as prepared as the potentially could.

Upon arriving to the Carryan system the USS Pegasus and other vessels were able to positively confirm that it was indeed a group of Klingon's laying siege to the Carrayan system. The USS Pegasus was ordered to conduct in-depth scans on a gas giant in the system to ascertain any worth that the gas giant provided for the Klingons. Although the USS Ticonderoga was ordered to provide the Pegasus cover while scans were taking place the Pegasus was still attacked by a strike-and-run method from a group of Klingon vessels.

While attempting to scan the gas giant the USS Pegasus detected an unidentified flying object that appeared on sensors for a few moments. This U-F-O quickly returned to sensors and before data could be truly collected the devise detonated which caused a mixture of dampening field/EMP-like effects on the USS Pegasus. At once the Light Cruiser was left without shielding, communications, and sensors.

With the limited operations they still had the crew of the Pegasus was able to determine that the multiple Klingon vessels who had attacked them earlier had now connected tractor beams to the shieldless hull of the USS Pegasus. At once the bridge crew began to work on freeing themselves from the grips of the tractor beams. The end result of these attempts was that the USS Pegasus underwent an unintentional separation and was split into two pieces both of which were boarded by shuttles carrying mechanically enhanced Klingons.

The hybrid Klingons eventually made their way to the bridge and an incident broke out that caused Ristone, the CO, to be knocked unconscious and several bridge officers to lose their lives. Thankfully, largely thanks to Lieutenant Commander Tucker, the bridge officers fought off the Klingons from the bridge.

Although the status of the ship kept every department busy the mission needed to continue. Lieutenant Scott, who was on the drive section, managed to find a way to eliminate the effects of the alien weapon that had detonated earlier. This allowed for better progress to be made on shipwide repairs.

After receiving modified orders Commander Ristone and Command Crawford transported to the drive section of the Pegasus along with the majority of the Security Department. Their mission was to pick up a security detachment from the USS Ticonderoga and then make their way to the Carrayan Capital to assist in a ground assault. The saucer section, under Commander Azernal, meanwhile was to follow behind at best possible speed and work on repairs that would allow the two section of the ship to reunite ASAP.

After delivering the security detachment to the planet Commander Ristone and the drive section of the Pegasus conducted scans at the wreckage caused by the crashing of the USS Lejeune. After reporting these results to the USS Nova the USS Pegasus was ordered to depart from the system as quickly as possible due to tension between the Federation and Carrayan governments. The USS Pegasus, as fast as possible, did just that.

The USS Pegasus is securely docked at Star Base Delta and the crew is on a well earned and deserved shoreleave. I was not given a timetable on the next Pegasus mission however was told to keep my crew close. I therefore had to limit their travel distance to where they were no more than 12 hours from Delta.

The six week journey to Star Base Delta proved to be a very busy one. I was, as expected, given full time command of the USS Pegasus. While this was the assumption I was under from day one of being on the Pegasus it is nice to know for sure.

With the ship officially being mine, and no longer running a mission, it became my job to permanently staff it with senior officers. I offered the First Officer job to Commander Rin Azernal, who had been the Acting First Officer. Azernal had clearly proven his worth during the mission and although I considered various other candidates none of them compared to the now permanent First Officer.

The rest of the senior crew, I am happy to announce is made up of the senior staff from the Nova. While they all had been my initial choices for the positions I teetered on whether or not to offer them the positions. However after being informed that the Nova was to fall under the command of a new officer, to be named-or at least announced-at a later date who would likely desire to select his own senior staff, I did not hesitate to offer the positions to the officers who I already know and trust. For the purpose of this log, I will record the officers below.

CO: Commander Ristone

FO: Lieutenant Commander Azernal

CTO: Lieutenant DeWitt

COS: Commander Crawford

CMO: Lieutenant Commander Macleod

CSO: Lieutenant Commander Tucker

CE: Lieutenant Scott

SC (Support Chief): Lieutenant [JG] Webb

While I personally look forward to some rest and relaxation time on shoreleave, I am excited for the next Pegasus mission to come in. It will after all be the first mission I run completely as the Commanding Officer of a vessel.

On a personal note, my beautiful daughter Eleanor was born during the trip home. Although only weighing three pounds and seven ounces she is very healthy and extremely gorgeous.

Roughly two hours ago an immediate crew recall was given by Admiral Thomas Grayson for the Omega 4 Battle Group of which the USS Pegasus belongs. The initial recall only informed all crew to report to their ships and prepare for immediate departure to provide aid and assistance to Carraya.

I am pleased to say that all members of the Pegasus crew were onboard and ready to depart within one hour. Lieutenant DeWitt, our Chief Tactical Officer, manned the helm as I ordered the Pegasus from Space Dock for the very fist time.

We arrived at the rendezvous point within a few minutes and waited for the other vessels to depart from dock. Within another hour, during which time the Pegasus ran additional scan to ensure she was ready for anything, every vessel was ready and Admiral Grayson gave the order to go to warp for Carraya.

While I currently do not know what threat or incident awaits us at Carraya I am hoping to find out more at a holo-confrence briefing which is scheduled to take place in less than an hours time between Admiral Grayson and the Commanding Officers of the other Omega-IV vessels.

The holo-conference briefing was both very enlightening and very vague. It was confirmed to us that Carraya was seemingly under attack from an, unknown to us, enemy. While this helped to eliminate several theories on what our mission would entail it did not answer what exactly we would be facing.

Carraya has a long history of conflict. The planet has been marred by civil wars, occupations, and violent fights for freedom. Of course the most recent occupiers of Carraya, and therefore most likely current aggressors, are the Klingons. This caused most in the meeting to begin thinking and preparing for Klingons upon our arrival.

Whoever the aggressors are one thing is clear; due to the treaty we signed with Carraya not very long ago, we are obligated to offer them assistance and that likely means getting into a nasty fight.

During the holo-conference I was placed on a ground assault committee. I will be heading this committee up with General Morris of the Marine Corp. Also on this committee will be Commander Crawford, who not only has one of the best security minds in Star Fleet but also has great experience in these type of operations, as well as a few other Chief of Securities. I particularly look forward to the wealth of knowledge the Sheridan's Chief of Security can offer. Apparently she is Carrayan born.

I also offered Commander Azernal for a tactical project on the Nova. His Zakdorn brain will make him essential in the planning of spacial battle. Of course, this will mean we are down our First Officer during the three day journey to Carraya. I am however confident that between myself, Lieutenant DeWitt, and Commander Tucker and Crawford, we will cover the bridge just fine.

Until then I will continue to run the Pegasus through operational drills. We've already had an Engineering and Security drill, which they passed with flying colors. I plan on having a science and medical one next.

Needless to say, we have two days to plan and prepare for an potentially dangerous battle. While I would love to see a diplomatic solution, I am not confident that one will present itself. After all, the hail we received from Carraya did not seem like the aggressors are very diplomatic. Time of course will tell.

The two day journey to Carraya space went by rather quickly. Most of the time was spent preparing for potential scenarios and outcomes. While I do not ever think I will feel fully prepared for such a scenario I do believe that the Pegasus crew, as well as the entire Omega-4 group, is ready for anything.

Upon arriving we dropped out of warp and began scanning. This far we have detected numerous Klingon vessels. Admiral Grayson and the Nova are conducting communications with the lead vessel. It does not however appear that things will end in a peaceful way.

The Pegasus is currently enroute to the Gas Giant at the outer part of the system. It is our job to collect as much information as possible about the giant and share our findings with the rest of the group. The USS Ticonderoga and her support vessels are proving us cover while we perform the scans.

The USS Pegasus is currently experiencing strange malfunctions due to the detonation of an unknown weapon.

The devise that detonated has eliminated wireless communication, rendered our sensors inoperable, and worst of all completely depleted our shielding.

I have science and engineering working on a way to counter these issues. I also have security securing as much of the ship as possible. We have thus far not been boarded via teleporters which makes me wonder if the Klingon ships are experiencing the same symptoms we are.

Our tactical officers are currently attempting to make sense of where we are and where our enemy ships are. From the limited visual sensors we have it seems that several shuttles have been launched. I fear this will only lead to bad news as I am confident they are full of Klingon's to board the ship.

I know we will make it through this situation because I have faith in this crew.

My previous fears were confirmed. The launched shuttles were indeed full of Klingons, cybernetically enhanced Klingons at that. I wish I could say that this was the biggest problem we were forced to deal with but that is simply not true.

As mentioned in my previous log the USS Pegasus was without numerous normal functions due to the detonation of the device which seemed to work like a mixture of an EMP and a dampening field. This sad state left our options of freeing ourselves from enemy tractor beams very limited.

Lieutenant Ouse tried a tactic, which was quite ingenious, however due to a third unknown tractor beam caused severe damage to the ship. The ship was forced to go through an undesired separation to avoid true structural damage.

The Pegasus was now in two pieces, mostly un-operational, and swarming with Klingons desiring to take over the ship.

Those of us on the bridge were attempting to find a solution to the EMP/Dampening Field effect when several Klingons entered the bridge. It seems that they were already in the bridge jefferie tubes when we locked down the command center of the ship.

Although we out numbered the Klingons we were severally out gunned. The enhanced Klingons had multiple weapons surgically attached to their bodies and I did not like our odds at an assault. At least not one that we had some time to weigh the options over.

I therefore approached what appeared to be the 'lead' Klingon. Using what I learned from my Academy Klingon classes as well as from Reggie Hendrix a Klingon hybrid I worked with on the Sheridan, I insulted the Klingon's honor and challenged him to a duel for the Pegasus bridge.

I had expected a long drawn out fight that I would likely lose. I had simply hoped to provide the bridge crew with time to come up with a better plan. I however was wrong. The Klingon did react but he did so in an instant. At once I was chocked unconscious and flung across the bridge.

I awoke only ten minutes ago in sickbay. I am still trying to figure out everything that happened while I was unconscious but to the best of my ability it seems that Commander Tucker acted very heroically which of course caused the rest of the bride crew to follow suit.

I am a little worse for the wear but not serious injured. I expect to return to the bridge after I am cleared by the medical staff.

Before leaving sickbay the USS Pegasus' previous useless systems began returning to working order. We are still of course severely damaged and major repairs are going to be needed before our ship is ready to return to battle. However, the fact that we have sensors, shielding, and full communication back is certainly a boost for morale and allows us to begin licking our wounds more properly.

Since leaving sickbay I have returned to the bridge where I have received the most up-to-date information we have. It seems Lieutenant Scott managed to find a way to disperse the EMP/Dampening field that had been created by the Klingons.

The Pegasus has been contacted by the Nova and has been ordered to move a large portion of the security department to the drive section and make best possible speed to Carraya to help with a currently losing ground war. I have decided to transport over to the drive section and take command of that section of the ship.

My initial desire was to accompany Commander Crawford and her teams down to the planet. As expected Commander Crawford fought this idea and after some internal consideration I was forced to agree with her assessment. As hard as it is for me to accept, my place is no longer on the front lines of a ground assault.

My place however is the bridge of a ship and that is why I remained firm on my intent to go to the drive section. It was the logical decision. Commander Azernal, who is currently recovering from minor surgery, will be well enough to command the saucer section in a short manner of time. He however is not yet ready to move from sickbay and therefore that is why I am going to the drive section.

Until Commander Azernal is back on his feet I have asked Lieutenant Scott to transport to the saucer section and take the conn in addition to overseeing repair.

After transporting to the drive section we wasted no time. I immediately ordered Lieutenant Harriman to set a course for Carraya at the best possible speed we could manage.

We however quickly had to make a short pit-stop. Our sensors indicated a runabout not far from the Ticonderoga's previously known coordinates. We discovered that this shuttle was carrying a security detachment which we quickly transported to our vessel. Their lead man, the Ticonderoga's Chief of Security, has been connected with Commander Crawford to help with the assault on Carraya.

Upon arriving at our coordinates our objective was slightly adjusted. Sadly I must record in my log that the Lejuene, a Marine Transport Vessel, crashed into the second largest city on Carraya. Most of the crew of the vessel as well as currently countless civilians lost their lives.

Our security detachment was still deployed to the Capitol city, to the palace specifically. Their assignment is to establish order and liaise with the government officials present, and work with local security forces as needed.

Our section of the ship on the other hand has been ordered to conduct orbital scans of surface area near Lejeune impact and provide analysis of damage. I know this estimate must be done but I also know that I will hate the results.

Commander Nicholas Ristone recording:

The results of our scans were worse than I had anticipated and that is saying something. The USS Lejeune is a complete loss and even worse is the massive amount of damage that has been delivered to the Carrayan city. Countless civilians have lost their lives and even more have without a doubt been tremendously effected by this disaster.

Every fiber of my being wanted to help the people any way possible. However I was forced to prioritize and instead, under orders from Admiral Thomas Grayson, destroyed the sensitive and classified information from the Lejuene and then depart from Carraya at best possible speed.

The drive section met up with the saucer section as quickly as possible and due to the hard work of our Engineers, as well as other departments, we were able to begin our journey back to Star Base Delta.

This mission does not exactly sit well in my stomach. It seems so many question remained, as of now, unanswered. Where did these Klingons come from and what exactly was their motives? What happened to the Lejuene? What is the status between the Carrayan government and the Federation? I know we will discover at least some of these answers in the future but until then I will have that nagging feeling in my stomach.

We were pulled off of shore leave with only a few hours of notice. All crew in the Omega 4 Battle Group were recalled. There wasn't much detail about the mission—other than it would be dangerous. A lot of family members were left behind on the Star Base where it would be safer for them.

We were dispatched to Carraya - a system that stopped responding. Our treaty with them required our investigation. En route I joined Rear Admiral Grayson in planning possible ship-wide responses to whatever enemies we might find there. He seemed to like the slightly different thinking my background brought - though I did miss the Pegasus during these three days.

Upon arriving in the system, we detected Klingon ships...not exactly a surprise. The Klingons seemed interested in a nearby gas giant, so the Pegasus was dispatched to figure out why. The USS Ticonderoga was sent as backup.

Partway there we detected a cloaked...something...which eventually turned out to be some kind of emp device. All of our scanners, most of our equipment is offline. The ship was caught in tractor beams, and in an attempt to break free, it completed a saucer separation.

The EMP caused communication to be down through the entire ship, so there was no way of communicating with the other half. We attempted to figure out what was causing the interference, but the ship was boarded.

These boarders were...weird. They were like Klingon-Borg things—cybernetic with odd codes of honor. They demanded our surrender.

The Captain attempted to confuse them and call out their failed honor. In response, they flung him across the room. The Chief of Science then fired on the Klingon, which exploded like a photon grenade. The battle was on.

No one left the Bridge uninjured, but at least some of us made it off with our lives. The Captain still hasn't woken up...and I am hoping that the Doctors will be able to repair my knee...

It would help if the medical equipment wasn't out too...

I spent a long time in sickbay...first arguing with a medic, and then finally receiving treatment. My leg still needs time to full heal and I am stuck using a cane for the time being.

I returned to the Bridge to find it manned by Lt. Scott. It was a shock, as when I had left he hadn't even been aboard! I asked after the Captain and Commander Crawford, who I had left in charge. It turns out the Commander had been ordered to the planet, and the Captain was determined to accompany her, despite her protests...]

Az issued a sigh, hanging his head. His hands came up, rubbing his weary face before he continued.

[I took the conn from the Chief and reviewed the working consoles. With only 3 to choose from and most of the Bridge crew off the ship or in sickbay, I had no option but to assign double duty. DeWitt was handling helm and weapons and Scott had engineering and sensors.

At this point, I became aware of a potentially dangerous situation in sickbay. It appeared that some of the Klingon nanites infected the CSO Tucker. She was still in sickbay as they began to try to find information about these machines.

I ordered Scott to report to sickbay to assist and he refused. Although nanites are machines, he apparently lacks any ability to work with them...this still confuses me. Since he was so against it, I told him to send someone to help if he wouldn't, and he did.

I was just contacted by the Captain who is heading back to our section...sans our security forces. The Nova is taking over the responsibility for transporting them. We are to reconnect and head out of the system at best possible speed. Of course, with the damage we might get home faster if we all get out and push.

It took a few hours for the two halves to reach each other and reconnect. Eventually, the engineering teams were able to pull off a miracle and get us moving to Star Base Delta at almost half the normal speed of the Pegasus when fully repaired.

Much of our repairs won't be completed until docking, and that may take quite some time. The crew is looking forward to shore leave, and some to be reunited with friends and family.

I've got more paperwork than I can shake my fist at, and a lot on my mind. This mission didn't go as planned from the moment we entered Carrayan space. There are going to be a lot of questions.

Personal Log, Stardate 21104.29, Lieutenant Scott recording:

[There's only one way tae describe our recent mission tae Carraya... what a pile of ••••••• shite! And I'm an auld bastard and hae been on a few wee missions in my time; but this one took the ••••••• biscuit. In fact it stole the last bastard one reet oot of the tin! I'm sitting here noo with a wee dram and trying tae make sense of it all. But the short an the long of it is it's beyond my pay grade. I dinnae have enough info tae understand the big picture... an I hae an itch that I was nae the only one.]

[It started with a distress call fro the Carrayan provisional government I'm told. The poor we bastards were under attack and everything was going doon the chunty. It was nae long afore we hae a flottila on the way an the Peg was part of it. We arrived in fairly good shape tae discover Klingon bastards all over the bloody place, which was more or less what those in charge were expecting apparently. The Peg was assigned tae small task force that was tae investigate some odd bloody goings on around a local gas giant. And like the braw bastards we are; off we went.]

[Which was when it really did go doon the chunty. The turtle heads deployed a reet bastard of a suppression field. We lost most of our major systems, including shield's and comms, much like we did when the Nova was fried during my last mission. That's two for ••••••• two. Why is it that no matter how hard we try to design resilient systems at the first contact with the enemy they often go tae hell? And as ••••••• usual it was up tae yours to truly tae fix it! Anyway it occurred tae me that the modifications we had made then tae beat that problem were still in place and might just work. I used the hard wired intercom tae call the bridge. Thank •••• wee designed these bastards with redundant systems. And the boss gave the go ahead so I fired up the manual system an went for it. Whilst this was going doon we were being ripped a new one by three enemy frigates. I still dinnae noo exactly what happened, but just as I tried the EMP the enemy had us in their tractor beams an were launching assault shuttles. Some dimwitted bugger on the Bridge tried tae to manoeuvre and the dish was ripped clean off the secondary hull in an entirely unplanned separation.]

[Naturally my plan went tae shite. We were in the crap an noo mistake. Klingons on the Starboard bow, Klingons tae port, and Klingons reet up our bloody arse. I realized that I was more than likely one of the few remaining experienced officers in the secondary hull and handed engineering over tae my ACOS afore getting my hairy Scottish arse up tae the battle bridge pronto.]

[Actually thing's turned oot to be much worse than I hae kenned. None of the command certified nobs had made it to the battle Bridge and I was the poor bugger who was senior. Which meant that I had tae take ••••••• command. And its a balls oot experience I can tell you. The secondary bridge crew were young and reet scared. The fact that I was auld and pissin mesel made noo bloody difference. Even then I was mesel just a clueless auld shite from engineering I had tae 'step up tae the mark' for their sake. So I sat my fat arse doon in 'the big chair', thought about how some of my daft basterd CO's would hae handled it, and did a bit of 'monkey see monkey do'.]

[The whole thing was a mess. We were free of the tractor beam, and had impulse and torpedoes, but nae shields and phasers. Tae add insult tae bloody injury we had boarders trying tae get into main engineering. But for all that it was easy tae ken that the Peg's dish was in a worse state. She was oot of comms, trapped in the enemy tractor beam, and I later discovered they had boarders on the main bridge and in the shuttle bay. Tae make things worse the enemy had adapted their disrupters tae work in their suppression field and were giving us a fearful pounding. One thing was painfully obvious... things were going tae hell in hand cart... and fast.]

[I needed tae do something reet quick. Thankfully the SIF was still working so I had engineering tae reroute power tae that which would protect us for wee while. I then told Science tae have another crack at working out a solution tae that damn suppression field and ordered tactical to launch a torpedoes at the frigate with a tractor on the dish. We fired two. One struck the target amid ships and severely damaged it thus freeing the dish. The other went rogue, probably due tae that ••••••• suppression field, and struck the Peg's dish. Big ••••••• explosion, lots of poor brave lads and lassies dead thanks to a random twist of fate. There was an investigation when we arrived back at Delta which finished a few hours ago But the Sassenach HQ bastards acquitted me and my people of any suspicion of negligence and ruled the incident. So we're off the hook and while I know they're right part of me feels someone should be accountable for it and as commanding officer at the time I was prepared for it tae be me.]

['A regrettable and entirely accidental incident of death by friendly fire resulting from the enemies deployment of an exotic jamming device' they called it.]

[Regrettable my arse. Typical ••••••• HQ monkeys with their fancy words... ••••••• tragic is what it was and I hae lost sleep over it. Those were Pegasus people and my order killed them however you cut it... sometimes this job ••••••• blows the big one.]

[Anyway I'm off track; The dish was free but the remaining too frigates must hae decided we were the bigger threat because they came after us with blood in their eyes. Those lads were ••••••• serious and I knew the SIF wouldn't take much more... we were shedding hull plating like a stripper on a Friday night. I keened that there was nae alternative but tae make a run for it... I could nae risk any more 'friendly fire •••• ups'. So we scarpered sharpish with one of the enemy frigates reet behind us.]

[Thankfully we made it outta that damn field and suddenly the old girl had all her own hair an teeth again. We blasted the frigate that had pursued us tae hell and then, after a wee bit off cunning adjustment tae our sensors, used long range phaser fire tae chase off the frigates attacking the primary hull. When that was done I sent a sit rep to the Admiral both to get a tactical update mesel and to pass on what we had discovered about the field so far tae the rest of the fleet.]

[After that we put on our own thinking caps and devised a solution to disperse the enemy suppression field using the main deflector. For a prototype it had a pretty good chance of success and as I dinnae dare return tae the dish with the field still active I gave the order. It worked, and after a short while the field around the Peg was dispersed. But like everything else in this damn story it cost us dear. During the process the deflector dish became unstable and threatened to overload. Despite kenning their own danger that the deflector team stayed at their posts and saw it through. It brakes my heart tae tell that all three of them were killed in the resulting explosion.]

[I hae seen it so many times before in the Fleet, and every time it chokes me reet up. The thing is I ken exactly why they did it... I hae done so without thinkin enough times mesel. The only difference is so far I hae been a lucky old bastard. In the end that's what being Fleet is all about... and I am reet ••••••• proud of theose braw lad's and lassies who did nae flinch when the service demanded they make the ultimate sacrifice. Bless them all...]

[Anyhow... it worked, so we sent that off too the Admiral and headed in to help the dish. But before we could do anything much two Klingon cruisers passed us by heading in the same direction. I thought it was all over then, but we went after them anyway and discovered the dish intact. It seems that they took the time tae finish of their own frigates but left the dish unharmed and scarpered from the system. Apparently they were later intercepted by Imperial Klingons and destroyed. I guess all we can do is thank our lucky stars they did, but I dinnae ken the reason for it and I'm not sure anyone else does either!]

[So for us the battle was over, we managed to rendezvous with the dish which was in a worse state than we were. Now that we had the communications back we received orders to proceed to the Carrayan Orbital Base where repair facilities had been secured. We were also ordered tae pick up a security strike team from the Ticonderoga along the way. As we dinnae have the deflector warp drive was outta the question and the journey was going tae take several hours.]

[Orders were that I should transfer tae the dish because it was in worse shape, and going tae take even longer tae bring in system. The Captain wanted me in charge of the repairs there tae see if they could be done on the hurry up, which is ••••••• typical, and also I admit exactly the same way I hae behaved in charge so I cannae whinge too much. Himself had decided to go with the team, which got him on the bad side of Tyra Crawford our COS... serves him bloody right from what I overheard. Tyra is a fine officer and he needs to learn that he's not working security himself any more and leave it to her.]

[Anyway, I transferred over and suddenly found mesel in the big chair on the main Bridge. It was bloody intimidating... but if I'm honest with mesel I was beginning to get the hang of it and was a little miffed when young Azernal finally escaped sick bay tae take over. Mind you only for aboot ten seconds after that it was a relief to get back to being CEO again and do what I do best.]

[That's aboot all of it really, the Tico's strike team was picked up by the secondary hull which scarpered in system. We lagged along behind and eventually we made it back tae Carraya only tae find that we had tae leave. I had nae clue why because no bugger tells me anything. But the scuttlebutt is that the Nova suddenly dragged a section of the Carrayan orbital base out system and ordered a general withdrawal. Apparently the Carrayans had some kind of dire experiment going on and it could nae be left near the planet or some such. For us the withdrawal began with emergency repairs to the dish anchors followed by a rendezvous with the dish. After that my people worked bloody miracles and jury rigged warp capability using the secondary deflector. We managed half maximum warp in the end... and I am proud of that!]

[So that's all she wrote, and I cannae waste any more time blabbing. The Delta engineering commander is up my arse because of certain non standard modification I hae made. Our First Officer wants tae see me 'at my leisure' and due to attend the sector engineering expo. I'm hoping tae raise a few glasses tae departed friends and get in a round of golf or two afore Pam arrives for the end upcoming fleet hullabaloo.]

Klingons transported aboard and tried to capture the vessel, but they ultimately failed. There are several questions that pop into my mind. Why were these soldiers equipped with some form of Borg technology? Why did a single phaser blast cause them to detonate like a photon grenade? I just hope I won't get these answers with another first-hand experience.

Compared to others in my Department, my own injuries were insignificant. Sure I lost my arm, but it can be cloned using my own genetic makeup. Which, by the way, I'm not too fond of. Senior Chief Burns gave me the report on the enlisted side of things. Even though I'm having him keep an eye on his people they know their jobs and should perform them easily. The only one I see thaty'll have problems is Recruit Mortonn. I hope I'm wrong, but that Ferengi background of his make me wonder why he even enlisted.

I'm resuming my duties with the help of Sickbay. Doctor Drake seemed to tolerate my opinion of what he had to do. At the moment my condition is stable, and I'll man the helm once again. The only thing that can worsen my condition is another unprovoked attack. God help us all.

Lieutenant Kyle DeWiitt recording:

It's amazing how many problems can be caused with us keeping our part of a treaty in good faith. From what I've been told the tolls we took aren't anything to take lightly. The starship Lejeune was a major loss. I'm just glad that nothing like that befell the Pegasus.

Our journey home was luckily uneventful. I spent most of that time adjusting to my newly cloned armed to replace the one destroyed by the Klingons. It's so much better compared to the prosthetic, but I can't help but think it isn't truly mine. Hopefully, it'll only take a while before my body completely adapts to the synthetic flesh material.

Along with my standard paperwork I submitted a promotion request on that of Ciron Ouse. I know it won't fix the position I took away from him, but he deserves it after this last mission. Right below the people who lost their lives, he took the biggest chunk of the damage. As I understood it he went into surgery to regraph the skin lost.

Commander Azernal was also informed of my desire to take the Command Test. There wasn't anything barring me from being allowed this, so all I can hope is that I perform well.

The day is just becoming perfect. I'm back with my love and Delta and may all my future missions not scare me like that again. I know the risks of this uniform, but come on it seems like every mission so far has been more dangerous than the next. Guess that's the problem you get whenever your excellent at your job.

Commander Tyra Crawford recording:

Shore leave on SBD was cut short due to an emergency in the Carraya system that the group was sent to investigate. We weren't given many details until we were underway, but they certainly painted an ugly picture, which so far has been too accurate for my likings.

Klingons, for reasons currently unknown, have taken an interest in the Carrayan system. We were sent to deal with the problem efficiently and effectively, which we planned to do through spatial and ground assaults. However, as tends to happen in combat, we haven't managed to follow that plan in the least.

While investigating the gas giant in the system, our systems went down. From a security perspective, it's a near disaster when that occurs. We lose the ability to contain prisoners or hostiles with forcefields, we have limited tracking abilities, and we have fragmented communication. That wouldn't have been a huge issue if we hadn't been boarded during these technical problems.

Firstly, somehow, someone managed to rip the Pegasus in half at deck 12, which presents a completely different strategic problem altogether. Fortunately, the secondary security office was fully manned and there were patrols on the bottom half of the vessel. Due to continuing communications difficulties, I'm not sure of their status, but I hope that they've faired well.

On the saucer section, we suffered two breaches: one at the shuttle bay and one on deck 2. I personally responded to the shuttle bay breach, which ended up being taken care of quite effectively and efficiently. We were able to trap the 11 combatants between two security bulkheads and we gassed them. Due to difficulties in transporting the prisoners, they are currently being housed in a cold storage unit two sections from the shuttle bay.

At the shuttle bay, we also took possession of a Klingon shuttle, which appeared mostly operational in the interference. It had some interesting features that I'm not sure what to make of; it equipment for scanning certain particles. While I understand how the equipment works, I don't understand the readings—it's something for science to deal with. Hopefully, the shuttle will be of good use at some point in time.

While I was dealing with the shuttle bay , the bridge was locked down to prevent infiltration by the intruders from Deck 2. However, they were too late in doing that as the intruders were in the deck 1 maintenance shafts and were locked in with the bridge crew.

These intruders, apparently, were no ordinary Klingons. From the footage I've seen of the bridge, they appear to be some sort of enhanced version. They appear to have weapons integrated into their arms as well as the ability to wield weapons in their hands. I suspect that the interference effected them in some way because their armor was inefficient in deflecting simple phaser fire, an oversight that a designer would likely fix. Either their armor had malfunctioning reinforcement, their shielding was interrupted by the interference or their designers were sloppy.

Regardless, a simple phaser fire hitting them caused the Klingon to explode. This sent shrapnel flying across the bridge and is probably responsible for most of the damage done to the bridge and its crew. The entire bridge crew was sent to Sickbay, and I am currently in charge of the bridge.

I feel some responsibility for not being able to react to the bridge personally, and possibly being able to prevent the carnage that occurred there. However, by the time I had effectively dealt with the Klingons from the shuttle bay, everything that had happened on the bridge was finished.

I lost good officers on the bridge, and probably even more on the drive section…kids that probably still had plenty of potential that they hadn't even begun to touch. They all died because of what? The Klingons need to prove they're still a force to be reckoned with? Arrogant bastards…

Commander Tyra Crawford recording:

We have somehow managed to get through the interference and have made contact with the drive section under the command of Lieutenant Scott. Fortunately, the drive section faired far better than we did.

The Nova, or more specifically Thomas, made contact with us shortly after we exited the interference. To my relief, Thomas is alright, and should remain so. I guess I'm the one that needs to worry about getting home in one piece, which I have every intention of doing.

From the Thomas, I received orders that my personnel were to be moved over to the drive section, and I was to take command of it and proceed to Carraya IV as previously planned. Our plan has obviously been complicated by losses in my department and the crippling of the ship, but we have no choice but to proceed any way.

This situation was only complicated more by the insistence of Commander Ristone to accompany my team and I to the drive section. Originally, he wanted to not only command the drive section but accompany my teams to the surface and no amount of reasoning—or arguing bluntly—with him would change his mind, at least about commanding the drive section. Hopefully, he's serious about remaining on the auxiliary bridge. The last thing I need to is to have to explain how my CO died during an operation he was suppose to be nowhere near.

In all honesty, I don't mind having Ristone on the drive section. His skills as a security officer would be invaluable from a support standpoint. However, I stand by the opinion that his place as a CO is with his crew, even more so after they've taken a beating and the remainder of the senior staff is in Sickbay. I know he argued that his presence on the saucer section wouldn't be of much help, but I think he underestimates…or chooses to forget… how important a CO is to the health and effectiveness of a crew. Sometimes, I think he's too much like Derrick for his own good.

But I do genuinely like and respect Nick—although he probably wouldn't believe that after how blunt I was in opposition to his decision—so I really do hope that the saucer crew isn't worse for the decision. Plus, I think they've been through enough for one mission.

Personal Log, Supplemental

While I was on the bridge monitoring the attempt to clean it up, I received a casualty report: 40 missing and 200 injured from the saucer section.

Mihar had to compile a list of individuals who were unaccounted for or were known to be deceased in the department. I think being on Earth for as long as I was almost made me forget what it was like to lose people close to me. The names on the list are people I saw almost every day, who I grew to know quite a bit about.

I know that Julie Adams, one of the officers stationed on the bridge when it was boarded, had just become engaged to this amazing guy on Earth. She couldn't stop talking about him, and while it was highly annoying first thing in the morning, it was really cute too. Her patrol partner, Chandler, had just become a dad, but he hadn't had a chance to meet his son yet because we were dispatched before he got a chance. Now I guess he never will.

Sometimes I think it would be so much easier if I was a detached leader. I wouldn't know those little details about the people we lose, and I think they'd be less prone to haunt my dreams too. However, I also don't think I'd get nearly the satisfaction from my job without the people aspect. You can't have it both ways...

Lieutenant Junior Grade Tourock Sothrick Recording:

My time aboard the Pegasus has been interesting. We have just arrived back to Star Base Delta via the Nova. I have not been able to record a log in a while so I am taking a few moments to do so now.

Our ship had been sent to Carraya space to answer a distress call. A distress call that the planet was under attack by an outside force.

Once our ship had arrived we had been attacked and boarded by what scans showed as Klingon. They first appeared as Klingon but nothing about them, their tactics their speech nothing seemed Klingon about them.

The most apparent oddities were their explosive abilities when hit by weapons fire.

That alone being strange but everything we found on the planet was equally strange. But I must admit I know little of the planet we went down to.

After barely successfully repelling the boarding parties only with major damage and significant loss of life we were sent to the planet side.

Our mission was to secure the Palace and assist the government there.

Once we made contact we were only tricked and ambushed. Our teams barely made it out of the Palace or even off the planet. This mission is something I would rather put behind me. It was my return to Starbase and rejoining the Pegasus that I was very confused by.

Once I came aboard the Pegasus I found my father here in my room. Here wearing the uniform of a SFIS officer. He is now involved in some type of investigation about this mission it would seem. Strangely my father while here also gave me my promotion.

“Hey man you about ready” Came the voice off camera==

I will finish this log later my roommate wishes for us to go aboard the Delta.

Lieutenant Emilia Cirrus recording:

This mission has been quick, but very heartbreaking. We went to the Carrayan system to investigate a distress call from the Carrayan government. Anticipating battle with the Klingons, a task force of medical officers on ambulance shuttles was created. I was assigned to one of those medical shuttles along with a pilot from the Ticonderoga named Ensign Nate Lazlo.

We were first assigned to shadow the Ticonderoga’s fight squadron, and our first patient was a fighter pilot. He was badly burned and had some breathing problems, but was conscious on arrival. His case was very simple and straightforward, and we got him to the Nova safely for treatment.

Our second patient was not as lucky. He was another pilot, but one we rescued from Carraya IV. He had a severed femoral artery, and we could not get to the Nova in time for him to be stabilized there. I was forced to reach into his leg to retrieve the artery, which had retracted into his pelvis, in order to clamp it before he bled out. It was probably the single most upsetting procedure I have ever performed, and I get nauseated just thinking about it. This is why I didn’t become a doctor.

In any case, I was able to stop the bleeding and we got the pilot to the Nova for further treatment. We didn’t have any patients after that because the Pegasus ended up being so bad off that they sent me back there to have some extra hands. Nate was assigned as a transporter operator to beam patients from Carraya IV to the Nova.

There were so many patients on the Pegasus that they spilled into the corridor, but thankfully most had minor injuries. There was one man, though, that caught my attention: Lieutenant Ciron Ouse. He had suffered shrapnel damage and acid burns to his face that went so deep that he’ll need total facial reconstruction. He even needs bone and muscle grafts. The poor man has been kept unconscious for days while he stabilizes. He is Trill, so they are worried about the symbiont plus it is too hard on his body to do the reconstruction all at once. I don’t know why he caught my compassion so deeply, but I assigned myself as the nurse on his case so I can keep an eye on him.

We’re on our way back to Base now. I’m looking forward to seeing Gabriel, and hopefully Xan will be available as well. I was able to find out that he at least survived the encounter at Carraya, but I haven’t heard other than that. I hope he’s okay.
