Personal History

Her parents were Starfleet scientists, and she had a conventional upbringing travelling around the Federation visiting may different planets with her parents during the course of their work aboard which ever starship they were assigned to. She never really liked her given name of Scarlett, and usually gets people to just call her Papaver. Though only a few get to call her Poppy.

When she became old enough to decide what to do with her life, she initially wasn't sure, but a long voyage courtesy of a Starfleet vessel, the USS Descartes, helped her with her choices.

Her family were assisting with a terraforming project, and she had several weeks of nothing but free time on her hands. The ship had briefly stopped off to witness a rare planetary alignment en route, and during this time, she had become rather friendly with one of the ships junior counsellors. Needless to say, that as the vessel dipped into the shadow of the largest of the planets, and she stood in observation lounge with the young man, she felt what could only be described as a total eclipse of Descartes.

With her scientific heritage, and her new found interest in astronomy, she applied to join Starfleet, hoping to graduate and be posted aboard the Descartes. This wasn't to be, however.

Upon graduation, she was assigned as a Midshipman to a Sun-Tzu USS De Lyon and fell into a relationship with a young medic called Pierre Breton. One thing lead to another, and they quickly married. However, things didn't end well for the pair, and Papaver filed for divorce. Breton transferred to another vessel to evade her, and later she too transferred, after she had achieved the rank of Ensign to the newly launched USS Magellan.

During her first mission on the Magellan, she along with one of the engineers and a security officer, discovered a crab-like creature drinking the computer's memory gel packs. Between the three of them, they managed to erect a forcefield, trapping the creature which later turned out to be a member of a friendly species who were exploring the area same as the Magellan was, and hadn't meant any harm.

The Magellan was later tasked with an infiltration mission as part of a wider fleet engagement against the Borg Megasphere. Papaver was left as the sole Science officer aboard the ship on the bridge when they came under fire from the Borg. She thought she could handle herself well. She could easily stand toe to toe with a seven foot Gorn, but when the shooting started, Papaver went to pieces. Unable to cope, she subsequently requested a transfer off of the Magellan upon their return to Starbase where she was diagnosed with mild PTSD.

After a sabbatical of a few months aboard Starbase Alpha, she was reassigned to the USS Nikola Tesla, where she found Breton serving, much to his surprise and that of the vessel's Counsellor, who he had hooked up with. Her initial reaction to finding her estranged husband wasn't her finest hour, and she was lucky that the Commanding officer was lenient with her.

It was after the Tesla's mission to rescue a medical vessel, which had accidentality moved into the neutral zone, that the divorce was finally completed, but she too was again transferred off of the Tesla and returned to Alpha for a few months where she was promoted to Lieutenant junior grade until an opening appeared aboard the newly commissioned USS Aquila.

She must have impressed the Captain in some way during this brief stint as on their return, she was again promoted to full Lieutenant and transferred with most of the senior staff to the USS Philadelphia. However, the Philadelphia was deployed on mission without any science staff aboard for unknown reasons at the time, so Papaver was seconded to DS9's science department until their return.
