A Pakled male

The Pakleds are a heavyset humanoid species, native to the Alpha Quadrant.
To the casual observer, the Pakleds appear to be intellectually challenged, especially in their verbal skills.

The Pakleds are driven by their unwillingness to wait to gain their own technological knowledge.
Therefore, they try to acquire technology from other species, generally by deceit and theft.

A largely nomadic culture, they travel between worlds in search of supplies and materials needed for their continued survival.
They are often referred to as "scavengers."

Pakleds are known to work as refuse merchants, a job which most other species were happy to give them work for.

History

By the 2360s, they had had contact with the Federation, Klingons and Romulans, and had acquired technology or unwitting assistance from each.

• In 2365, a Pakled transport encountered the Enterprise-D, luring the Federation ship in by sending out a distress call.
  They proceeded to kidnap the ship's Chief Engineer, Geordi La Forge, to help "fix" (improve) their ship.
  After a show of force from the Federation ship, their Engineer was returned, and the two ships went on their way.

• In 2366, a Pakled trade ship found and retrieved the Soong type android Lore drifting in space, and gave him Pakled clothing to wear.

• By 2380, the Pakleds' level of accumulation had created powerful ships, known as "Clumpships," which contained components salvaged from over thirty different species.

• This included technology from the Klingons, Romulans, Bajorans and Ferengi

Biology

• Pakleds tend to be rather heavy-set, and are quite hardy. They have purplish blood, indicating that they are an iron-based species.
• Often seen as unintelligent due to their lack of verbal skills, the Pakleds as a whole are clever individuals, and are self-aware of how they are viewed.

Government

At one time, these people were ruled by an emperor, followed by a subordinate king, then a queen. There was a rudimentary class system where an individual's status was indicated by the size of their helmet.

Now, it is still wholly uncertain what exactly the Pakled governmental system is, though at the very least, they still have a king or queen.

Current Status

In 2419, the Grand Nagus of the Ferengi Alliance personally struck a deal with the Pakled leaders to take over the administration of their world, absorbing them into the Alliance in all but name.

They are now little more than servants to the Ferengi, and if the contract was to be followed to the letter, the Grand Nagus himself.
