Personal History

From an early age, Bor'ennus, or "Bor," as he's referred to by friends and family, had a keen interest in learning about what made things work and why - not in a typical engineering sense, but more of a scientific approach. However, it wasn't strictly for the knowledge; while still an adolescent and into his teen years, it was usually for some sort of angle or scheme that could net himself and his group of friends an advantage or for a really cool, impressive prank. One such example would be the time he was able to figure out a way to excite certain fabrics that were present in female's undergarments and cause them to radiate a faint bluish-purple. The teacher of his applied particle physics class was more upset with the disruption to the lesson than with what Bor had actually done. That some of the female students were embarassed, in some cases by having no such glow from their chest or hip area - and in one case, no glow at all - was a source of mild amusement (not that the teacher could admit that to his student). During the mandatory detention periods imposed by the school, this teacher, Mr. Therel, was able to get Bor to tell him of his interest and aided him in focusing his talents and interests in areas less likely to get him in trouble with the authorities. This likely kept him out of jail.

Following graduation from school, Bor applied to and was accepted into a practical science trade school. There, he and others explored ways to take science knowledge and theories and test ways they could be used and exploited, especially for the Andorian military. Through his interaction with members of the military, he realized that there were times in the field a person with talents and focus like his would be useful. Such as when knowledge of the theory behind why the equipment and weapons worked would allow finding a workaround, loophole or other exploit due to environmental or situational factors. To some, he seemed as if he was a hybrid or bridge between an engineer and scientist; in truth, he didn't care what they labeled him so long as he got to pursue his interest. Following his internal compass, he applied for and was accepted into the Andorian military, and from there was accepted into their Special Ops/Counter-Insurgency/Terrorism (SOCIT) division. While in the SOCIT division, he met Melnek, and after initial abrasiveness on both their parts, they realized they were very compatible when in the field, and complimented each other's talents. They became very close friends, and it was a rarity for one to be deployed without the other. They developed a habit/ritual during their pre-mission prep; as they would finish prep and head to their vehicle/transport, Bor would ask Melnek, "Got ice in your veins?" To which Melnek would reply, "Always." When Melnek was killed during the botched raid into Cardassian space to wipe out a suspected terrorist cell, Bor got the tattoo of that word on his left bicep, which is where Melnek would often grasp him in friendship.

After that incident, it became evident there had been a major intelligence failure; when it was revealed the person responsible was the son of an influential parliament member, it was swept under the carpet. Furious at the clear violation of honor, Bor challenged the son to Ushaan. After defeating his opponent and killing him, Bor was given warning by one of the many contacts he had made over the years that it would be best for him to leave Andor for some time. He moved off-world and applied to Star Fleet, where he has been accepted.

Though medical knowledge exists to prevent formation of scar tissue from wounds, many of his wounds occurred where only basic first aid was available. In the case of his forearm scar, that was "earned" during a mission where he saved Melnek's life and he has no desire to have it fixed.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Practical/applied Science
Academy Minor(s): Engineering and Security procedures
Hobbies and Pastimes: Basic martial arts, climbing and rappelling
Short-Term Goals: Finding a good ("worthy") squad to be a member of, learn new methods and procedures from Star Fleet
Long-Term Goals: Being a Squad/Team leader, perhaps even a small unit tactics trainer; lessons would focus on applied science in asymmetric tactics
Personality: While not grim, he is definitely reserved and tends to observe and get as much "intel" on a situation as he can before speaking, engaging, etc. He doesn't make friends easy, though he doesn't make it difficult to work with him - he just keeps things very professional and is typically private. If circumstances dictate that he needs to reveal some personal aspect as part of an explanation, he will do so, but as minimal an amount as he can get away with. ("No free intel.")
Sense of Humor: He is more apt to be open to jokes, etc, from people he was worked alongside and whom he trusts/respects; he definitely has a dry sense of humor, and tries to give as well as he takes. He tends to be mostly amused by humorous situations moreso than actual "jokes."
Phobias: Though he hasn't personally experienced/witnessed it, Borg assimilation truly creeps him out
Likes: Respect, honor, integrity; he also, interestingly, has an appreciation for Klingon opera
Dislikes: Dishonesty, betrayal, "backstabbing", spineless behavior
Pet Peeves or Gripes: Pretentiousness, pretenders that have to inflate themselves to assuage their egos; betrayal
Bad Habits or Vices: Every night before bed, he has a shot of Andorian ale in honor of Melnek; he also has a heavy phaser rifle that was Melnek's that he notches the stock whenever he kills an enemy; this is stored in his personal locker (it is de-milled, meaning it cannot be fired/used without serious work/parts)
Achievements: Graduated in top 5% of his practical science school; personally led over 5 missions where his team achieved the objective under harrowing circumstances without loss of life on his team
Disappointments: That his peoples'/culture's vaunted claim to value honor was proven false when it came to people of privilege
Illnesses: He has nightmares about the mission into Cardassian space, specifically revolving around the loss of Melnek
Strengths: Staying focused and focusing others; fairly natural leader, though it isn't completely instinctual; can occasionally "brainstorm" an odd application of a scientific principle/theory, especially in the field
Weaknesses: He is susceptible to being prodded/provoked by those that are duplicitous/dishonorable; not a very good researcher
Fears: Abandonment (on a mission, and/or due to "political expediency"), failing friends and team members
Prejudices: Politicians, government workers (bureaucrats), military intelligence; Vulcans (though not nearly as bad as it was during the pre-Federation era)
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Functional, nothing flashy (think khaki type clothing/material)
Distinguishing Features: Some minor scars on his torso and abdomen; a distinct, long scar on his right forearm; a purplish/blue tattoo of "always" in Andorian script on his left bicep
Pets: None
Friends: Melnek (MEL-nek), a member of his spec ops/counter terrorism squad (see Personal History); died during a botched raid on a Cardassian depot on one of the border worlds. They had known each other for 12 years, and gone on over 50 missions together; he was the squad's heavy weapons specialist, and had the physique one would expect from lugging around large weaponry

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: The death/loss of Melnek, when it could have been avoided by someone not being sloppy
Best Time: Becoming a part of his SOCIT squad and earning their trust
Most Crucial Experience: Mister Therel helping him focus his learning and interest in science
Role Model: Commander Shran (through historical recordings and writings); his squad tactics instructor
