Operations officers (also known as "ops") is an engineering position aboard Star Fleet starships that evolved from older 23rd century positions.
Operations is concerned with internal systems control, sensors, and communications. Furthermore, ops personnel coordinate the scheduling of resources, hardware and system usage for an entire starship, outpost or space station.
