Nucleogenic particle

A nucleogenic isotope is one that is produced by a natural terrestrial nuclear reaction, other than a reaction beginning with cosmic rays
- Some nucleogenic isotopes are stable and others are radioactive.
Nucleogenic particles are the constituent quantum components of an energy form found in the atmospheres of most M-class planets.
These particles are necessary for the production of rain on a planet, and their absence would lead to a barren, desert-like world.
One planet that lacked these particles was Ocampa.
- An entity known to them as "the Caretaker" inadvertently destroyed the atmosphere of this planet, erasing all nucleogenic particles.
- Assigning themselves penance for damaging the planet and its inhabitants, the Caretaker stayed and protected the people for nearly a millennia, when it began dying.
Nucleogenic particles are also produced as a byproduct of the enhanced warp drive developed by the crew of the USS Equinox in 2376.
- This warp drive, which operated on the modified remains of murdered nucleogenic-based lifeforms, provided the Equinox crew with the possibility of returning to the Alpha Quadrant in a matter of months.
